Seizure in cats

Common Questions and Answers about Seizure in cats

seizure

207091 tn?1337713093 Hi, I'm not really sure what the symptoms could be, but I honestly don't think it's seizures or a stroke. Seizures you would've noticed twitching and loss of bowel or urinary control. A stroke would've affected one side of the body only, and she wouldn't have recovered so quickly. This could be a thyroid problem, or diabetes. You can try taking her food away for 6-8 hrs so she'll be ready to get tested for diabetes as soon as you get to the vet's office.
Avatar m tn I have flown with my cats lots of time and never medicated them, but these were also cats who were used to being in a carrier, and used to being in a carrier in the car. Do you have any time between now and the trip to pack them up and take them for some long rides? Can you take them along on shopping trips? (All the in-and-out of the car for you will give them a chance to get bored, and pretty soon they might be sleeping.
Avatar f tn Some cats with seizures are known to have a disease that causes inflammation in the brain and the tissue coverings around the brain. Your vet might wanna go ahead and proceed with an autopsy and various tests. You need to take action now. Seizures may happen just once, but as unpredictable as it is, it can happen even when you are not present; and this is assuming it has happened just once, like you said; but then again, it may not have happened just once..
215234 tn?1305146561 are very experienced with Cats, they suggested poisoning, possibly plants, but we have kept her in for the few days before this happened, as shes been cheeky & pulling the new plants out of our planters as she claimed it as a bed...lol......I should also add, that as we also have a pet Rabbit, who lives freely in our enclosed yard, we only have non toxic plants out there, & our Cat is quite timid & hasn't yet ventured further than the wall of our yard.....
Avatar f tn Fortunately, in many ways, our cats recover quicker than do we. Fortunately, in many ways, we learn from our deeds and can foresee the consequences of repeating them. It reads like Zachary still sees you as a being worthy of trust and affection, and like Beener cares for Zach, too. If his behavior is returning to normal, I'd at least consult with your regular vet about the happening.
Avatar f tn It has been two days since his last seizure but he still hasn't fully recovered, he doesn't know his commands, the people in the house ( including me ), or the other dogs and cats in the house. I want to know if he will even recover from this or if there is something I can do to help. He keeps pacing and whining, even in the middle of the night. Should I bring him in again? Could there be something more serious going on?
232077 tn?1218426943 When we stepped outside our bedroom we saw Opie laying on his side, twitching and excessive drool coming out of his mouth. In our 4 years of owning him we have NEVER witnessed him having a seizure or pretty much any other health problems really. We petted him and calmed him down and within a few minutes he was back to normal 100%. He even began playing around with his cat nip toys.
146298 tn?1258715847 I woke up today and was in pain right off the bat. It was really sharp and then suddenly spiked and I got dizzy and nauseous, so i rushed to the bathroom. I was reeling with pain that was all around my middle and not just concentrated on the right side like it is usually. I was on the toilet maybe five minutes when i broke out in a a sweat just all of a sudden and my hands began to tingle and go numb.
Avatar m tn Yes, this does sound like a seizure.....Whether it's the food or not, you must get rid of it!!! It's a terrible food and Purina is poisoning dogs all over this country with absolutely no recalls, yet dogs & Cats are becoming violently ill and/or dying on Purina foods....Last complaints I looked at were up to 4000 so far..... Get him on a food with No Dyes, No preservatives, No artificial Color, No by-products & very few grains such as whole grains...
Avatar f tn i didnt want her to seizure in the end. she was buried in the woods where she loved to be. we put a little pine tree over her grave. she will have the tree to keep her company. boy i hate this. this ***** balls big time. hang in there folsk...at least we all know we are not alone in our pain and sorrow. i know i will cry for awhile because i am angry at myself. i wanted to do what he wanted but i wasnt strong enough to endure anymore. she was diagnosed sept 24 non regenetive anemai.
Avatar m tn I throw it in both my dogs food daily, and even crush one up with the back of a spoon and mix in with my 18 year old cats food every day- incidentally, this supplement gave new life to my very old cats who were basically both sleeping 24/7. Now they chase each other around the house, go in and out the cat door all day long- like regular cats. You can go to their website and read tons of testimonials.
Avatar n tn I was bitten 20 yrs ago and the head of the tick (in Indianapolis) stayed in my scalp for a week, then I developed lumps all over my head that disappeared a bit after a doctor removed the tick. I grew up in WV, w/ plenty of deer and dogs/cats. I don't know what to make of it. Thanks in advance for any input.
5624800 tn?1371659778 Two days ago one of my older cats tipped over a mirror that was leaning against my wall and it landed on one of my foster kittens (4 weeks old). I believe he was either in shock, or having a seizure after it happened that lasted for about 15-20 minutes. The whole night he wouldn't move much, or open his eyes. He responded to touch, and he purred only when I held him close. He sucked down his milk from his bottle really well.
Avatar m tn Cyclic smell distortions do not happen in your nose. You actually have a sensory seizure disorder, which is caused by a slight chemical imbalance in your brain. Unlike motor seizures, sensory seizures are partial seizures and they don’t manifest in a loss of motor control. Instead they affect how people perceive sounds or images, or in your case, smells. Your seizures are activated when you stimulate the nerves in your nose by laughing or talking.
Avatar f tn to everyone getting the spasms in your head I started getting those when I moved into this house built in 1887, I believe it to be allergies do to molds, also remember cats, etc hive you allegies and do bad things to you. I am moving out because of the illness of molds here, it can kill you.
Avatar f tn She has had extremely low blood sugars irregularly lately, and last week it took me four hours of feeding her sugar and food to get it back up to a safe zone (she pleaded no pen). She had two seizures this morning, and is in the hospital with no explanations after a clear CT. they are waiting for the dr to make a decision to do anything, but no one has answers as to why she has seizures. This all is recent.
1586292 tn?1296849907 There isn't much risk associated with the exposure to the magnetic fields in an MRI, and (at least in my case) I grew a crop of 4 additional lesions in 6 months. Six month serial MRIs are not uncommon in study protocols.
Avatar f tn Well, his distemper test came back negative and again he was better in two days. The vet though it might be a shunt(?) in his liver, but he had no problems when they put him on a high protein diet. So, he came back home. Again, two or three days later he went blind. When we brought him home this time, we changed his food, changed out all of his toys, gave him bottled water in new dishes. WE thought it could be a problem with the food or too many minerals in the water.
2186126 tn?1384961026 I went from feeding her once in the morning and once in the evening to 3 smaller meals throughout the day. Another thing is the thirst, it's insatiable. She would drink constantly. They shed, she would get lil white mole looking things everywhere. Then she started getting really weak. She would go out to potty, but I'd have to help her down the steps (I'm not going to let her stumble and risk falling) and I'd help her back up.
Avatar f tn Reglan (metoclopromadine) is a very cheap medication, unfortunately, it is also metabolized in the kidneys, so a too high dose results in toxic levels in the blood. My husband and I discovered that completely bypassing the GI tract by using reglan injections worked much better in the end. Chica didn't get the extra pyramidal side effects (extreme restlessness, shaking and trembling) from the reglan injections that she got from the oral meds.
Avatar n tn I don't have allergies of any kind and I'm in excellent health and I can learn to live with the smell of fresh baked bread in my nostrils.. I mean it could be owrse.. still I think I should get someone to check this out especially as I read about Phantom smells being a possible side efect of brain tumors...
Avatar n tn Needless to say, doctors are reluctant to perform surgery in the absence of an accepted indication and patients are not interested in surgery when the benefits are explained in the terms. Has your doctor looked for other possible causes e.g. gastroparesis small intestine pathology? Abdominal pain is often a diagnostic dilemna and a multitude of tests may be needed before a diagnosis is made.
Avatar n tn can a cat have seizures,a couple times now my cats woke me in her basket moving n shaking uncontrollaby i have to hold her til she calms down.
Avatar n tn About 48 hours ago, I noticed this heat sensation in my left shin. At first I thought I was standing too close to a heat vent in the floor at work! It is a warm, sort of tingly sensation that lasts 5 seconds and occurs, I don't know, 10 times throughout the day. I wonder if I slept on the leg funny?? Stress?? I am 43 and in reasonably good health but seem to be a hypochondriac (spelling?) at times.
Avatar m tn okay, i recently posted a question in the cats community forum. someone referred me to here. since i really don't want to write out the entire question again, i hope you don't mind that i posted a link. comment with your answer on here, please. http://www.medhelp.org/posts/Cats/kitty-suddenly-begins-having-seizures/show/1508321?
369472 tn?1198749292 My dog, Chica, was diagnosed almost 3 months ago and was already in severe failure. We finally had to help her in the end last Friday. It was a blessing that her misery was finally over. Now, as to what you can do to keep your dog comfy for as long as possible, I want you to print out the following link and really read through the 40 pages. http://www.dogaware.com/kidney.html Your dog will need to be on low phosphorus foods, if she'll eat them.
Avatar m tn I am believing now she sustained a head injury on the 5th of may and had a seizure last night in the tree, I did ask the vet but he said the blood in the eye had nothing to do with the head injury. She also was not in a confused state sunday, also no symptoms of a concussion then.
242516 tn?1368227505 risk of tendinitis and tendon rupture is further increased in those over age 60, in kidney, heart, and lung transplant recipients, and with use of concomitant steroid therapy. Physicians should advise patients, at the first sign of tendon pain, swelling, or inflammation, to stop taking the fluoroquinolone, to avoid exercise and use of the affected area, and to promptly contact their doctor about changing to a non-fluoroquinolone antimicrobial drug.
976897 tn?1379171202 I had 4 cats but unfortunately a few years ago I lost 2 to the dreaded C word. The remaining 2 seemed to be quite sickly cats and I say that because they would vomit at least 3 times a week. The Vet couldn't explain it and so I just assumed that they were scoffing mice or something in the woods behind my garden. Suddenly a few months ago I walked into the kitchen and my dog was laying on the floor shaking. He recovered and I rushed him to the VET who said it was a form of mild seizure.
Avatar n tn Well what happened was I went through withdrawal while in a car and had a massive seizure, resisted cops at the scene. I woke up handcuffed to the hospital bed, in leg shackles too, with a gag over my mouth (spitting on nurses apparently). I do not remember any of this. They thought I was on PCP at the hospital. That was rock bottom, and it took me a year to get off of the stuff When I bought and moved into my house in 2006 I was clean. But then I started partying with one of the neighbors.
