Common Questions and Answers about Seizure in animals

seizure

207091 tn?1337713093 Hi, I'm not really sure what the symptoms could be, but I honestly don't think it's seizures or a stroke. Seizures you would've noticed twitching and loss of bowel or urinary control. A stroke would've affected one side of the body only, and she wouldn't have recovered so quickly. This could be a thyroid problem, or diabetes. You can try taking her food away for 6-8 hrs so she'll be ready to get tested for diabetes as soon as you get to the vet's office.
Avatar f tn 2 hours later he had a seizure similar to the one in Feb. I called the vet, they said it could be cramps since she gave him the med with just alittle food. She didn't give him anymore doses and he was fine through the week. I took our dog to the vet that Thur to see if he should be on something regularly for his hips and was told to give him the Previcox daily. On Fri. I gave him 1 dose, all seemed well. On Sat. gave 2nd dose. Within 2 hours he had a seizure followed by another 45 min later.
Avatar f tn It has been two days since his last seizure but he still hasn't fully recovered, he doesn't know his commands, the people in the house ( including me ), or the other dogs and cats in the house. I want to know if he will even recover from this or if there is something I can do to help. He keeps pacing and whining, even in the middle of the night. Should I bring him in again? Could there be something more serious going on?
215234 tn?1305146561 I have not met one vet who has taken any type of seizure lightly. That is new for me; but then again I don't live in the UK :-) Good Luck and let us know if you have any more questions.
3187528 tn?1344809110 About two months ago my 3 year old Jack-a-Bee went into a mild seizure. We rushed him to the vet and he couldn't find anything wrong. Said that it's common for dogs to have seizures and to keep a log if he has anymore. Exactly one month after his first he had his second one in the middle of the night. This is when I decided that maybe his weight had something to do with it. So I cut back on the amount of food I gave him and started walking him for 20 minutes every day.
Avatar m tn The best plan for now may be to shut the Morki in the bathroom whenever this happens again until the whole seizure is over and your other dog has recovered. Just shut her in in a kind but firm way, tell her to 'stay' and 'wait' with a gentle and steady voice. And don't let her out until you are sure the crisis has passed. I presume the vet knows about these seizures? Has any medication been prescribed so far?
Avatar f tn About 1 1/2 months ago, my dog had a seizure. Because I've never seen an animal seize before, I rushed him to our family vet. Dr. said yes, he had a seizure. He is 6yrs old by the way. She said this can happen. If it happens again, bring him back, we'll do a lab workup on him and may possibly need to start him on medication. About 2 weeks ago, my 4 year old African Gray had 2 seizures in less than 24 hours.
Avatar m tn by a mechanism that is poorly understood (at least by me). The more seizures that are allowed to occur in some animals, sometimes the more seizures that will occur in future. Also some dogs can end up with status epilepticus, a state of perpetual seizures that requires hospitalization to undo. If your doctor has decided your dog actually needs seizure medication at all, he/she likely has in mind the goals of preventing these unwanted consequences and the worsening of the seizure condition. 2.
Avatar n tn Since the dog is unconscious during a seizure, it is not likely that she noticed the water on her face or that it had any effect on her (however, you should stay away from the face/mouth during a seizure in case the dog snaps her jaw - you do not want your fingers there!).
182493 tn?1348056515 she's on doggie downers so I guess addiction really does run in the family!!!d Hope all your animals are happy and recover quickly! Fladdict...how's your jaw today.I hope this is a better day for you!
555706 tn?1216699852 It seems like as an epileptic, if you are seizure free for a time, then have a seizure, that unfortunately lowers your thresh hold for having another seizure, and CAN create a seizure pattern unless it is properly controlled. Status seizures are dangerous, are you willing to be on meds? Or do you have a live in partner that can administer fast acting meds when you have these seizures?
Avatar n tn Getting odd sensations that disapear when focused on another task can happen in some neuropathies (diseases of the nerves) and also in anxiety/depression. In addition, given your epilepsy history it is best that epilepsy is also ruled out as a cause (by getting an EEG[brain wave test] while having the 'buzzing' sensation).
561284 tn?1216229508 I have a little 4 month old puppy chihuahua and at 2 months he was involed in an accident in which he was tripped over (by me) and was fighting for life in the vet. The emergency vet said he wasn't going to make it and my heart broke then, however my little fighter. I phoned the vets every hour until late at night and then early in the morning I thought i was bugging them to. I also, dreaded every phone call as i didn't know what i was going to hear.
Avatar m tn Cyclic smell distortions do not happen in your nose. You actually have a sensory seizure disorder, which is caused by a slight chemical imbalance in your brain. Unlike motor seizures, sensory seizures are partial seizures and they don’t manifest in a loss of motor control. Instead they affect how people perceive sounds or images, or in your case, smells. Your seizures are activated when you stimulate the nerves in your nose by laughing or talking.
Avatar n tn The vet says my dog has blod clot in the brain and it will be weeks before other effects of the blod clot become apparent. He also has blood clot in one eye and the vet cannot guarantee that my dog will regain his eyesight after the clot is gone. He had one minimal epileptic seizure while at the vet, twitching and shaking for 15 secs. His legs are a bit wobly so I rang the vet today and he said it could be the pills for the epileptic seizures.
Avatar n tn I also experience these weird pains in my head that come for about a second and then go and come back again every 10minutes or so. These pains are in 1 area in the back of my head in about a 1 square inch area.. Any ideas???
Avatar f tn Well, his distemper test came back negative and again he was better in two days. The vet though it might be a shunt(?) in his liver, but he had no problems when they put him on a high protein diet. So, he came back home. Again, two or three days later he went blind. When we brought him home this time, we changed his food, changed out all of his toys, gave him bottled water in new dishes. WE thought it could be a problem with the food or too many minerals in the water.
Avatar m tn We received new organic mulch and compost for our flower beds and compost in March. We live in a very rainy area of Washington state. I should have asked for a post mortem but I couldnt bear to disgrace his body any more than what had already occurred. Also we were all in such tremendous shock I wasnt sure what was happening. We buried him in our backyard and I still have some of his excrement that was in his trashbin that I havent had the strength to empty.
Avatar f tn I may have to cancel a trip to NY to see my father at the beginning of July, if I have to have surgery or the MD tells me to get off Trams--immediately. I'll be in no shape to go. I've been thru a few w/ds in the past (usually getting off pain meds after a surgery) and it's been bad, but I'm in my mid-50s now. Just the stomach agony this a.m. was so awful and I wasn't really "into" any kind of w/d yet!!
Avatar n tn He said that the scans don't show any cause for this to be happening and it looks like it is curving in rather than the bone thinning in that area. At this point it isn't affecting my brain, so he wants me to repeat the scans in October and come back so he can see if there are any changes. Keep in touch if you find anything out about yours. and feel free to send me a message in my inbox - I have a watch on this post and my inbox and I recieve an email whenever anyone posts to it.
Avatar n tn There is some thought that vaccinations in some children, particularly boys present in behaviors such as your child's. Skin rashes and liver enlargement hint at a toxicity issue, again it could be from vaccinations. Pediatricians say that thimerosal has been removed from vaccines, but that is not true.
8761048 tn?1399723758   when she was about 6 months old her ALT was 534 they say normal level should be between 10-100) I was very unfamiliar about this and was not advised of the seriousness. Then at the beginning of this year she had a seizure as such where she looled just about dead, her gums were white/grey and she wouldn't move. I took her to the vet (a differeny one to where I had been before)  they  advised her ALT was 952. They stabilized her and gave me a script for SAMe they advised.
2186126 tn?1384961026 I went from feeding her once in the morning and once in the evening to 3 smaller meals throughout the day. Another thing is the thirst, it's insatiable. She would drink constantly. They shed, she would get lil white mole looking things everywhere. Then she started getting really weak. She would go out to potty, but I'd have to help her down the steps (I'm not going to let her stumble and risk falling) and I'd help her back up.
Avatar f tn They know how you're feeling. Grief is an odd thing in animals. When we lost our first dog, Travis, it upset our cockatiel more than it did Chica. Petey Bird grew up with Travis and worshipped him. He followed Travis around the house, shared his food bowl, cleaned his whiskers. They were really best buddies. After a few days with Travis out of the house, Petey stopped singing. That was almost 5 years ago, and that bird has yet to utter one peep of any of his old songs.

The first time i had one it was so severe I thought i was going to die. Since then i have sen my Dr. who prescribed some motrin for them.
Avatar n tn I don't have allergies of any kind and I'm in excellent health and I can learn to live with the smell of fresh baked bread in my nostrils.. I mean it could be owrse.. still I think I should get someone to check this out especially as I read about Phantom smells being a possible side efect of brain tumors...
Avatar n tn About 48 hours ago, I noticed this heat sensation in my left shin. At first I thought I was standing too close to a heat vent in the floor at work! It is a warm, sort of tingly sensation that lasts 5 seconds and occurs, I don't know, 10 times throughout the day. I wonder if I slept on the leg funny?? Stress?? I am 43 and in reasonably good health but seem to be a hypochondriac (spelling?) at times.
Avatar f tn The liver is the largest organ in the body and is responsible for filtering (removing) harmful chemical substances, producing important chemicals for the body, and other important functions. Toxoplasmosis is a type of infection of birds, reptiles, and other animals that can also occur in humans. Cytomegalovirus is a type of virus that usually causes infections in the eye and the stomach area. Certain medications can also lead to a high lymphocyte count.
Avatar n tn Kapalbhati -(Do it before eating) Push air forcefully out through the nose about once per second. Stomach will itself go in(contract in). The breathing in(through the nose) will happen automatically. Establish a rhythm and hold your head steady. Not for pregnant women. Seriously ill people do it gently. Do this for 15 to 30 minutes twice a day. Bhramri Pranayam -Close eyes. Close ears with thumb, index finger on forehead, and rest three fingers on base of nose touching eyes.
369472 tn?1198749292 My dog, Chica, was diagnosed almost 3 months ago and was already in severe failure. We finally had to help her in the end last Friday. It was a blessing that her misery was finally over. Now, as to what you can do to keep your dog comfy for as long as possible, I want you to print out the following link and really read through the 40 pages. http://www.dogaware.com/kidney.html Your dog will need to be on low phosphorus foods, if she'll eat them.
