Avatar n tn // I'm not a medical professional, just the parent of a kid with diabetes, and I don't know all the specific of your son's case, so I'm resisting saying exactly what happened to him. But that site does describe the condition pretty well. Again, I'm very sorry for your loss.
Avatar n tn If you are able to watch the dog carefully and see that they are not progressing into major grand maul seizures then I'd let it go for a little while. Just make sure the dog doesn't hurt itself when it seizes, like falling off of a chair or down stairs.
363110 tn?1340924019 pregnancy clinic that checks for all of these things and at my last appt last week the drs told me that Im at the same risk as any other pregnant women (3-5%) and after speaking with my neuroligist he did make it very clear that it would be worse for both myself and my unborn daughter for me to stop taking the medications at all during the pregnancy so my suggestion to you is find a good neuroligist who will put you on an affordable (which mine is) and has little to no side effects good luck o

Avatar f tn I always made an excuse for it, thinking it was because I hadn't been eating right or getting enough sleep. The symptoms escalated but received no treatment until I had a grand maul seizure while visiting my grandmother in the hospital. I was a junior or senior in high school then. I saw words crawling out of black holes before blacking out and waking up in a hospital bed. They ran several tests on me but found nothing wrong.
Avatar f tn after a few seconds of half laying down half sitting up, he falls backwards and begins to go into what would be described as a grand mal seizure. I have to say that I was pretty terrified. He snapped out of it within about 30 seconds to a minute. My father is an emergency room doctor and a physician; I disregarded my friend and asked my father what he thought, to which he said that he needs to get it checked out.
Avatar f tn I Started having grand maul seizures out of the blue. No past seizures. I was taken to the hospital where the MRI showed a mass on my brain. They urgently did brain surgeries. They had no results. I started to get an infection so they opened my head again and again looked at the mass. There was a biopsy taken. It was concluded at this point it may be MS or a tumor. Both were ruled out. Then possible stroke. Again ruled out. This mass started to shrink after multiple MRI tests.
Avatar n tn I am 35 years old and recently had a grand maul seizure. That day I had what I would consider a very bad day. I had many "day ja vue" feelings, nausea with vomiting, a migraine, and just did not feel well at all. I had the seizure, from what I'm told, some time around midnight. The last thing I remember is getting sick around 7 p.m. and going to bed. I woke up in the hospital, asking for my husband.
Avatar n tn My elderly boxer has begun to have "grand mal" seizures. Our Vet wants to have an ultra sound done on her heart as a first step. I have never of heart problems as a cause of seizures. Comments would be appreciated.
Avatar f tn ) she went to an Urgent Care facility where they ran an ekg, told her there were no anomalies and sent her home. This morning she had a grand maul seizure and was transported to a hospital specializing in neurology. They have told her that she has calcium deposits on the brain (right side affecting the left side of the body), and that her kidneys seem to be functioning below norms. Her blood pressure was also slightly elevated. They gave her insulin at dinner time.
498656 tn?1213450519 I have a female friend from high school who has been a daily drinking alcoholic and who's drink of choice is vodka. She had 3 seizures ( grand ,maul included) about 5-6 yrs ago and went to rehab fro 6 days and stayed sober for several months. Since, she has been drinking as ussual and had a seizure a month ago and then experienced double vision. CT Scan showed nothing and then vision cleared. Last week her boyfriend (enabler) found her inthe floor and took her to the ER. Mild heart attack.
Avatar n tn They were Tonic Grand maul. I had memory loss. But my problem is, I still have memory loss. It has wiped out the memories I have of my childhood, my memories of my children. I am unable to remember something someone told me 2 seconds prior. I can just turn my head and I have lost what ever it is. I write everything down. I am wondering if Alzheimer's is a 100% Iillness for me. Or I can remember parts of a memory. And I am unable to explain it to you. It has caused me problems at work.
Avatar n tn My son has been diagnosed with juvenile mycyclonic epilepsy. Since his first seizure he has experienced maybe a total of 8 grand maul seizures. He was able to complete high school with no problem. He struggled at a local college but was able to complete his associate’s degree. His mental and motor skills continue to regress. I don’t believe he could do work at a high school level now. At times he has difficulty walking and requires a wheel chair.
Avatar n tn I am convinced he has some kind of seizure. This past week he spent 10 days in jail for changing the quantity on a script. for the first 5 days he called me 3 times a day, then nothing. I thought he was stabbed or something. Then 2 days later I get back to back phone calls from the jail he is in bad shape again, really confused they think he had a seizure.
Avatar f tn In September at an appointment I suddenly had a grand maul seizure and was taken by ambulance to the hospital, where I had several more seizures. I was given and MRI where they found what the thought was a mass on the right side of my brain. The next day I had open brain surgery. They took a biopsy and came back with no answers. The next week they opened my head again to check for infections and again for more tests. Still no answers.

Avatar n tn In Sept 07, during a migraine, he had a grand maul seizure. His neurologists put him back on Depakote. He was migraine and seizure free for almost 2 years. He turned 31 in April and then in July it all came back, starting with the migraines which would last over a week. He is taking a higher dose of Depakote and now Topamax. EEG still shows epileptic activity in the core of his brain. He has not had a seizure since the end of July, but he feels foggy.
Avatar m tn I also have hypersexuality, which I'm told is another symptom of right frontal lobe damage. I have grand maul siezures when they occur. That's my story, and if you want any advice or questions, I can give you my assessment and we can compare notes.
Avatar f tn Feeling like I'm not getting enough air Gasping for air Feel like my heart is racing Feels like my heart is skipping beats Worse at night when I am lying down Trouble swallowing when I feel short of breath and when I'm eating Also, I don't know if this helps anything but in the past 7 years or so I've had a few grand maul seizures. Never diagnosed with epilepsy since they never did get a seizure recorded while I was being tested, but they were definitely seizures.
479255 tn?1208119748 I have Partial Compex Seizures also. I had my first grand mal seizure when I was 11. I now just have the Partial and I'm 33 yrs old. I have been put on Keppra 2 times and it has not worked for me either time. I am now on Lamictal, Trileptal and Lryica. These 3 seem to be the best ones that have been working for me so far. I have gone thru 4 1/2 weeks without having a seizure. The longest I have gone. I have 2-3 a month, usually.
388544 tn?1231986094 say that seizures and MS don't go hand in hand because my mom was diagnosed with MS in 1988 and had a Grand-maul seizure in Febof 2005. Her MS got really crappy and she was diagnosed with Epilepsy. They say only 2% of people with MS have seizures but I find that hard to believe.
Avatar m tn I have been having extremely severe muscle spasms that will cause my body to jerk and EMTs have described it as looking like a Grand Maul Seizure. I have had a CT scan, Feb 2011, of my head and it was clear with no tumors, a CT scan, August 2010, and it showed a bulging disc at L5-S1 but did not show nerve involvement. I have been told by one doctor that there is nerve involvement. I currently have a neurostimulator implant that was installed January 2010.
Avatar m tn Hi and welcome to the Chiari forum. No, I am not a medical professional at all....just another person that has had this condition and had surgery and I am here to share my experience and what I have learned about it. It is possible for Chiari to cause someone to experience seizures....some even develop epilepsy...and that can be post op....some have them prior to surgery and once they have surgery no longer have them...
330478 tn?1278288516 I have been dealing with coincidence after coincidence for a few years now. At the age of 13, I was diagnosed was Epilepsy. I only had 8 grand-maul seizures before I was put on Anti-epileptic medication and have been seizure free ever since. Now, I am 20 years old. Just last year, my doctors noticed that my blood pressure and my heart rate were high especially for my age. I am currently on 100mg of blood pressure medication and it is still not bringing down my blood pressure or my heart rate.
Avatar m tn There are certainly exceptions but in general THAT is the gorilla that needs to be fought by most everyone. If you want to see most Dr's have a nearly grand maul seizure, just start talking about Natural Dissected Thyroid (NDT) medicines such as Armour. They will about come out of the chair and provide you a laundry list of why that medicine is worthless if not nearly dangerous.
