Common Questions and Answers about Seizure first person

seizure

Avatar f tn I am 51 and am very frightened as last week I suffered my first ever seizure. It lasted about 30 seconds and I was just apparently staring glassily at my husband after shaking. I have been told I won't be able to drive for a year. My CT scan was clear though. I'm asthmatic as well, and at the time of seizure had been in intense pain from a urinary tract infection.
Avatar m tn Usually after an episode of a Grand Mal Seizure the person will go into a sleep like state for several hours. If this doctor seems to be this un-concerned about your daughter I would consider finding another neurologist. I would most definetly get another opinion. Hope you get an answer soon. NOTE: watch her around flashing lights, video games computer screens and tv shows with a lot of flashing. Sometimes these can trigger a seizure.
Avatar f tn You may not even read this comment since it has been 2 years since you posted but I had my first seizure at the age of 52 (late last year) It was diagnosed as a complex partial seizure. I lost conciesness 2 time within a minute. I was unable to speak or see and although I could hear my wife yelling to me, she seemed far away. I came out of it and went into hyperventalation. I was wrung out when it was over. I slept half the time for the next 3 days.

1653487 tn?1303524162 I just recently had my first (that I am aware of) seizure at 35 years of age... My husband witnessed the episode but I have no memory of it happening. This happened in my sleep this past Sunday night (March 27th)... After two days in the hospital and the plethora of tests, the MRI came back normal but the EEG showed abnormalities in the back right lobe of my brain. I was placed on an anti-seizure medication - Keppra 1000mg and told that I can not drive for at least 6 months...

Avatar m tn Hi there Stat wise this is what I can offer you: about 4% of people will have a seizure during their lifetime. There is a 30-40% chance of it happening again but with treatment that chance is halved. Usually though doctors will only prescribe medication if a person has had more than one seizure, I don't know if maybe they thought because of his age they would stick to the safe side and prescribe it for him.
Avatar n tn You experienced an epileptic seizure. The seizure defines the condition. You have epilepsy. The epilepsy, in your case, may resolve after a year and you may regain your driving priviliges, so don't give up hope. You will need written approval from a physician. The question is whether or not the long-term use of alcohol has permanently damaged your brain in such a way as to make it prone to seizures. Maybe yes and maybe no. Let's be optimistic.
Avatar f tn Our 4 year old Aussie just had a first seizure this morning. I have dealt with seizures before in another dog, but the aftermath of this is very different and hard. The jerking and then the stiffness lasted about 5 minutes or so, but when he started to come out of it and relax, he jumped up and started barking fiercely at us like he didn't know us. We got the other dogs out of the room in case of agitation or attack.
Avatar n tn I'm not a medical professional but my father has juvenile diabetes and I have been dealing with it my whole life, so hopefully I can provide some insight. it sounds to me like your husband was in the stages before the actual seizure or "insulin shock". Usually what will happen is the person will behave very strangely before the actual seizure occurs, while their glucose level is dropping. There are many different things that can happen...
Avatar f tn Just because one person got away without having a seizure, doesn't mean the next person will. Please listen to those who know exactly what they're talking about. Risk means risk ... it doesn't mean absolute but the risk is there. Personally, I wouldn't think it's worth taking that risk and I'd go to an ER to see if they could give me some until I could get with my doctor to do a proper taper.
Avatar m tn Sounds more like a minor seizure to me. They should see a neurologist first before any other doctor.
Avatar f tn I am having my first-ever root canal tomorrow, and I'm terrified. Will the procedure hurt? I've never been a fan of shots, but several years ago when having my wisdom teeth removed I went into a seizure as the oral surgeon injected the anesthetic, so I'm really nervous, and I keep hearing horror stories about people accidentally getting painful shots directly into the nerve, and how the procedure itself is extremely painful. I am not currently in any pain.
Avatar n tn Having a seizure for the first time is very frightening. I too had a seizure for the first time in 2009. My seizures are complex and some of the symptoms your experiencing may be from a fear of having another seizure. With that said, you should see a Neurologist who specializes and treats epilepsy to make sure these symptoms are not different kinds of seizure or symptoms of epileptic discharges. Try to keep your blood sugar, stress and sleep patterns stable.
Avatar f tn We went to the tree to see what Santa had brought @ while looking at santa gifts he had a seizure. He also had a seizure last Christmas while doing the same thing.I am just wondering if excitement has anything to do with this. I know that a 208 b/s is not a low reading but would it be with "excitement"?
Avatar f tn Hello, I was 21 when I had my first seizure. I have had 2 seizures since and I am now 31. I know, in my case, that my diet was very poor and I was under a lot of stress. I also wasn't sleeping well and was having muscle cramps. Do any of those things apply to your son? Seizures can be caused by many, many things. People have varying degrees of epilepsy as well. Typically, things such as stress and a poor diet lower the threshold for having a seizure.

Avatar f tn Yes, Benzodiazepines are infact used to treat epilepsy and other seizure disorders- however it is NOT an anti-/seizure convulsant based medication... It is actually considered a mild tranquilizer(sedative) that works by slowing down the central nervous system. Also, Benzodiazepine's are not the first choice for the treatment for seizure disorders. Studies have also shown that prolonged use of Benzodiazepine's in the long run for such disorders becomes less effective..
