Seizure causes stroke

Common Questions and Answers about Seizure causes stroke

401370 tn?1233328282 Someone in charge of other people should be versed in general medical care, say CPR, s/s of stroke (CVA), s/s heart attack (MI), seizure protocol, etc. Any idiot should know that causing harm to someone isn't helping them. While loss of short-term memory after a seizure is normal, it should not be lasting, especially after just one. You should be evaluated to make sure nothing else is happening and that you're not experiencing "absence seizures" or something like that.
Avatar n tn Anything that causes physical and mental stress can lower your threshold for seizure such as infection, sleep deprivation, and dehydration as well as neurological problems such as bleeding around the prior stroke area or syndromes that would cause strokes in younger women like vasculitis. She should have had a proper workup at the time of the stroke, but perhaps a CT scan to make sure everything is ok now would be in order or an EEG.
Avatar n tn She has experienced 2 episodes described as possible seizure by her doctor, although they couldn't confirm seizure. The first was 6 months post stroke, the other (yesterday) at 11 months. Both occurred while working (part-time). Work involves standing at a demonstration and sales booth for long periods (a biz she has owned for 20 years).

Avatar n tn What causes someone to have a weak leg after having an epileptic seizure (grand mal) for the first time?
Avatar m tn I have a friend who had a random seizure one morning after she had been vomiting and had diarrhea all night before. She also had not been sleeping well or at all some nights the whole month before. I took her to the emergency room and she had blood work done and a CT scan done both came back just fine. The doctor told her it was probably that she was dehydrated, and had lack of sleep that put too much stress on her brain. He also told her to consult a family doctor.
Avatar n tn I am researching various causes and have come accross a term i can not define. What is a stroke-like episode?? Can you help?
Avatar f tn The common causes of foot drop are nerve injury, brain or spinal disorders and muscle disorders. Diabetes mellitus, stroke, multiple sclerosis, muscular dystrophies are few common causes. Foot drop can be a sequaelae of severe intractable seizures. This is merely an advice and not a substitute for clinical examination. Consult a neurologist and get examined. This is merely an advice and not a substitute for clinical examination. I sincerely hope it helps. Take care and warm regards.

Avatar f tn blood pressure, but a slight blood clot got to the brain from the hole in the heart and caused a stroke 8 months ago. Last week he had a Tonic Clonic seizure this happened after a very active day of therapy for his left hand which is still not responding, hours at a the YMCa working out and working with his Saebolt which opens and closes the hand. He did have 3 beers the previous day with a buddy and his wife thinks that is what caused it, but the neuorologiest said no.
Avatar n tn I am a 19 year old female who recently experience my first seizure. I have never had seizures before, though I do have basilar migraines (1 yr). About 2 days ago, I felt really weird and decided to sit down on some steps. THe next thing I knew, I had four cops around me, and two were holding me down. I thought they were trying to arrest me, so I tried to get up, but they wouldn't let me up.
Avatar n tn WOW. I don't know if it was an actual seizure; however, have you considered not doing that again? You even admiited to "drinking WAY too much", whatever happens after that could be a number of things. Try NOT drinking..see if it happens again??????? Just a suggestion.
Avatar f tn It has been two days since his last seizure but he still hasn't fully recovered, he doesn't know his commands, the people in the house ( including me ), or the other dogs and cats in the house. I want to know if he will even recover from this or if there is something I can do to help. He keeps pacing and whining, even in the middle of the night. Should I bring him in again? Could there be something more serious going on?
Avatar n tn She has been on Volteren for years and there is a black box warning on this drug, that says may increase chances of stroke or heart attack. She quit that drug the day she had her stroke. Now she had a seizure and was told it is secondary to the stroke. Is this something that she will continue having? How does she know the difference between the seizure and another stroke? Symptoms seem to be very similar. Do you think the Volteren caused the stroke?
Avatar f tn Uncontrolled laughing or crying at inappropriate moments may be caused by a variety of underlying causes. Also called called involuntary emotional expression disorder, it can be associated with psychological issues, multiple sclerosis, ALS, stroke, Alzheimer's disease, Parkinson's disease or any number of conditions can cause brain lesions or damage the communications between different parts of the brain.
Avatar n tn The first symptoms sound like seizure activity, to me. The language, numbness sounds strokish. My second stroke set off seizure activity and they couldn't figure out what was going on because it was not "typical" seizure and not "typical" stroke. Later, they found that I had a stroke that set off the seizures. The CTScan, as usual, didn't find the stroke. Sometimes, MRI does not show a stroke. My first is only seen on a SPECT Scan.
Avatar f tn I am not sure where the stroke is located and am not clear on the “lack of circulation in the brain area” that you mentioned, but I will talk a little about seizures following stroke given the broad differential. Other causes of stroke-like symptoms, such as numbness of one side of face, include transient ischemic attacks, especially if the symptoms do not persist. You have had a stroke before and thus have stroke risk factors.
Avatar n tn CT scan showed seizure activity, but MRA and MRA came back negative for stroke. She was sent home after 2 days and a physical therapist was sent to the house to help her recuperate her motor skills and strength. She did not improve in these areas, nor did her memory improve. Saturday of this week, she began again with the same symptoms, intense eye pain followed by pain to entire left side, confusion, loss of memory and loss of motor and language skills.
Avatar f tn On Thursday afternoon, my usually very healthy 12 year old Labrador suffered what the vet believed to be some sort of focal seizure. The episode lasted for about 2 minutes, but she made a full recovery afterward and was acting like her usual self. We brought her home with the advice to continue to monitor her for signs of further incidents. She was absolutely fine throughout the rest of the day.
Avatar f tn At this point I will pass out, and have what observers describe as a seizure, however I am not 100% sure what it is. It is definitely a convulsion or spasm, and usually only happens in my hands, or arms and legs, and lasts about 3 min or less. When that stops and I am responsive again, I am completely out of it, and I will start to heave and eventually vomit although there have been times when I never vomit, just heave. I feel sweaty, and I am extremely pale.
Avatar m tn is strep that causes folliculitis the same strep that causes strep throat?wow i am falling asleep from typing this i will try more later thanks as always .
Avatar n tn Low blood Pressure. The two possible causes of my stroke are I was on the Pill, and I suffered some neck strain the day before the stoke. The legion on my spine went from C5 to T3. It took me months to learn how to walk again. I still have some paralysis (Right Hand) Weak Right leg and torso. I do not know if I am going to have a Natural Birth or a C Section. Doctors are reluctant to do C section and I am fearful that I may not be able to push.
Avatar n tn Dear Sandra: Again, stroke usually causes loss of function and not a gain of function such as muscle contraction. The right sided numbness might be an indication of a TIA as it was a loss of function or sensation. Leiden V mutations usually cause embolic strokes or venous infarctions. There is usually a family history of DVTs or other clotting problems.
Avatar n tn Hi, I'm a 21 yr old female who had a iscemic stroke 3 months ago caused by my pill. I'm almost back to normal now living my life which I was before the stroke. I'm on clopidagrel to thin my blood which I need to be on forever. I want to hear from anyone in the same age bracket - to talk to.
Avatar n tn My father had a similar sounding stroke on Dec. 8, 2006. He seemed pretty alert, spoke well, could swallow, etc. His major problems were left side paralysis and double vision. After about three weeks, he took his first steps and within 2 weeks of that was walking 40 feet with a walker. He was not able to start moving his left hand until about 4 weeks in. At that point, he could move all fingers and make a loose fist.
Avatar n tn My 55 yr old mother had a "massive" hemorrhagic stroke Feb. 18/05. The neuro surgeon said it was a large deep bleed in the left side of her brain, apparently she is lucky to have survived it and without surgery. The latest CT scan 3.5 weeks after the stroke the blood has started to re-absorb and swelling is going down.
Avatar n tn At 39 I was diagnosed with a TIA/mini-stroke. Initial Sympton: White light covered my sight and I started to mumble and unable to formulate words/or communicate with my co-workers. I went home "slept it off" and the next day returned to the office however, I couldn't put my thoughts together while crafting emails and went to the emergency room (Navy Medical Portsmouth, Va). A highly respected neurologist, after many many tests...
Avatar m tn I have had 8-blood clots, (4-L Leg, 1-R Leg, 1-traveled through the chambers of my heart causing a heart attack, 1-on my brain causing a stroke and lastly 1-traveled all throughout my body causing a T.I.A. I had a massive Cerebral Hemmorhage (1974) caused by a ruptured Aneurysm. In 1989 I had an Epilepitic Seizure while I slept, I now have Epilepsy. I was put on 100mg Dilantin 3x daily. In 2002 I was diagnosed as being Autoimmune.
