Avatar m tn What's the differences between CNS depression and depression? May i know what's the causes of depression? Does it relate to the neurotransmitter? Diazepam is an anti-depressant? It enhances the effect of GABA by binding to the benzodiazepine site on the GABA A-receptor. After binding to the receptor, may i know what's the next mechanism? GABA is an inhibitory neurotransmitter? If GABA is an inhibitory neurotransmitter, how does diazepam can cause anti-depress?
Avatar f tn “It can manifest as an alteration in mental state, tonic or clonic movements, convulsions, and various other psychic symptoms. It is caused by a temporary abnormal electrical activity of a group of brain cells. The medical syndrome of recurrent, unprovoked seizures is termed epilepsy, but some seizures may occur in people who do not have epilepsy”. Taken from http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Seizure What are the symptoms? Have any of you seen the seizures while it is happening?
Avatar f tn If I were to explain it, I would say I am having symptoms of MS (multiple sclerosis). I had an MRI and it came back clear. I had an EEG and that came back with no abnormalities. I have no idea when my symptoms started but it got extremely worse. My symptoms are as follows: Headache Dizziness Confusion Fatigue Tremors in hands mostly but do happen in legs, arms, shoulder, and neck.Head shakes too.

Avatar m tn I have never seen any patient in any kind of arrhythmia having a seizure. Pre-syncopy and pure syncopy, yes, but never a seizure. Could the medicine he was taking have this affect? Did he take this medicine for awhile, while all of this was happening, and then came off the medicine and improved? You really need to think about this.
Avatar f tn The second episode appears to be seizure related since there is an aura and a post ictal phase of confusion and tonic clonic involuntary limb movement including heavy head hitting against the wall. Consult a physician, preferably neurologist for evaluation of symptoms and EEG to rule out epilepsy. cardiovascular evaluation including blood pressure record, rhythm evaluation with holter, blood sugar profile, blood indices and hemoglobin studies, MRI brain, etc.
Avatar f tn I have double vision and blurred vision at times, I don't know why. I have epilepsy (absence and grand mal seizures) but this doesn't seem like a absence seizure as I am still aware when it is happening. I can only see clearly when I close one eye... Help and advice please.
Avatar m tn During the exam she said my pupils were different sizes and she was slightly concerned. Of course I googled it and all I see is brain tumor. Can high blood pressure cause pupil sizes to be different?
Avatar n tn It does sound like a seizure, and contrary to how awful it looks, seizures are not painful. It's also not uncommon for older dogs to develop seizure activity. Call your vet and have him make a note of the episode in your dogs's chart. Make sure you tell him the time of day the seizure happened as well. It may be a one-time occurrence - or not. If the seizures become more commonplace, phenobarbitol is one medication that most vets start with to control them.
Avatar f tn You may want to ask your doctor to schedule an EEG to check for seizure activity. A type of seizure called Partial Complex Seizure can explain this. Some people have them and not even know it. A lot of times they are caused by fever or a head injury. Sometimes there is no explanation as to why these happen. I have had Epilepsy for 37 yrs, I have the convulsion type seizures but I am also firmiliar with the Partial Complex Seizures as well. Hope ya get an answer soon, and feel better. Take care.
Avatar f tn I am concerned about some fainting that has gone on in the past year, and will be seeing my doctor soon, but would like to see if I can calm my nerves about my symptoms beforehand. I am a 20 year old college women and between last summer and this summer I have experienced 3 fainting spells, all under different conditions. The first two I feel like I have a basic understanding of why they occurred, but will share them anyways as I am concerned that my most recent one has no explanation.
Avatar f tn Partner had a stroke april 21 but only this last 6mths she has had 1/2 episodes where she has gone to laugh and had one i would describe as a seizure - she stares and goes red as though struggling to breath then 10ish secs later she is absolutely fine- anyone else had similar
Avatar m tn i am expierencing left soulder pain and twitching most of the time before a migrane and sometimes just the shoulder problem, can anyone shed some light on this problem please ? This discussion is related to Repetitive shoulder pain - twitching muscles.
Avatar n tn s only symptoms are usually fainting and seizure-like activity. My son has seizures when he faints, but these are like you describe in that he is very aware before and right after the seizure. You could ask your pediatrician or family doctor to refer her to an Electrophysiologist (heart rhythm specialist) and ask specifically about the QT interval on the ECG.
Avatar f tn For example, last week when I tried not to take my meds for the first time, I had a really bad brain spasm where my entire brain kinda froze, and my body jolted and I dropped everything I was holding. I had many more of those and had to go home from school. On 12/07 I didn't take my medication again, and everything wen fine. So on 12/08, I tried this again, but my brain spasms got really bad as the day went on.
Avatar f tn With the looking up, it is possible u r restricting CSF flow and y u r passing out, and it may be the return of CSF flow that causes the seizure...over stimulated nerve endings...so urs may be Chiari related to be relieved by restoring CSF flow with surgery...who knows....IMHO u need a true Chiari specialist....Mayo has a great name for many medical issues but Chiari is not one of them they are known for...see a Dr known for treating and researching Chiari .
Avatar n tn I have been on Keppra and Lamotrigene for many months for seizures. No problem with seizure meds but began having terrible oder issues ,everything smells horrible - skin, food , lotions, shampoos etc. Could this be interaction with these meds . ?
Avatar f tn Hi I am curious twice I went to a chain restraint (same one) and I usually drink Bacardi and coke, but this place only had Cruzan and each time I had one hours later I had a seizure could I possibly be allergic to this particular type of rum, I can drink wine and have no problems it's just this rum??
Avatar n tn Hi, it is unlikely to be because of pernicious anemia which is mainly due to deficiency of vitamin B 12, which can lead to nervous symptoms like tingling, pins and needles, burning sensation etc. Seizure at this stage is usually due to intracranial space occupying lesion, hypoglycemia, metabolic acidosis etc. Is he diabetic, any history of hypertension? What are the medications he is on?
Avatar n tn Many people experience a once off seizure (I think it's something like 1% of the population) Were you doing anything at the time that could have triggered it? The only thing you can do at the moment is wait for the EEG results and that will determine where you will go from here.
Avatar f tn This important and your symptoms should not be passed off or neglected as this are disturbing symptoms that demand complete medical work-up.
Avatar f tn Two months ago my sister, 29, had a seizure, full body shaking and unconciousness, bit her tongue and some memory loss. At the hospital her MRI, EEG, EKG CT scan and blood and urine test all came back clear. The Neurologist said, "well, sometimes this happens." Then a week and a half ago she had one in her sleep, and then another just a few days ago. This time the doctor has put her on Kepra. Again her tests came back clear. What does this mean? Does she have epilepsy?
Avatar m tn Seizure activity can cause a number of different symptoms.) I would see a neurologist and have these two things ruled out.
Avatar f tn I was diagnosed 2 yrs ago with chiari malformation type 1 from a car accident I was in where an 88 year old man hit me going 55 mph while I was at a dead stop, my brain moved down a cm bc of the accident. I've been on countless medications for my migraines and last yr in march I started twitching when I'd be laying in bed, it started off once in awhile and is now every night and most mornings.
