Avatar f tn Hi, age is no barrier for seizures; there are plenty of causes related with fits. Usually in adults or young people seizures are related with epilepsy or non epileptic like psychogenic seizures. “It can manifest as an alteration in mental state, tonic or clonic movements, convulsions, and various other psychic symptoms. It is caused by a temporary abnormal electrical activity of a group of brain cells.
327385 tn?1378360731 Stress can indirectly also affect patients with seizure. It causes an increase in cortisol levels which influences seizure activity. Have you been investigated for your seizures? What medicines have you been taking? If you have been taking antiepileptic regularly then seizures should be controlled. You need to discuss with your neurologist if any dose adjustments of your antiepileptic drug needs to be done or any alternative drug needs to be taken. Hope it helps. Take care and good luck!
3147301 tn?1345714034 I told my DD (a NP) that I felt like I had a seizure, & she said it Was a seizure, based upon my description. I have had several eye tests, & they had to stop frequently, as I felt "strange"-- as if I were going to pass out or have a seizure. I hope you let us know what you find out.

Avatar n tn It could have been an absence seizure or other neurological problem. Since it was the first time it happened, and came on suddenly. I suggest that you go to the ER or see a neurologist and they may want to get a CT or MRI of the brain. Have you had an injury to the head? Also, to rule out seizure they would do an EEG. Since you couldn't speak or move it (to me suggests) a neurological problem. Let me know how it goes?
Avatar m tn I have a friend who had a random seizure one morning after she had been vomiting and had diarrhea all night before. She also had not been sleeping well or at all some nights the whole month before. I took her to the emergency room and she had blood work done and a CT scan done both came back just fine. The doctor told her it was probably that she was dehydrated, and had lack of sleep that put too much stress on her brain. He also told her to consult a family doctor.
Avatar f tn Ever since my Neurologist started taking me off my anti seizure meds, I've started getting these brain spasms, I guess you could call them that anyways. They only happen on days I'm not on my meds. For example, last week when I tried not to take my meds for the first time, I had a really bad brain spasm where my entire brain kinda froze, and my body jolted and I dropped everything I was holding. I had many more of those and had to go home from school.
Avatar n tn Many people experience a once off seizure (I think it's something like 1% of the population) Were you doing anything at the time that could have triggered it? The only thing you can do at the moment is wait for the EEG results and that will determine where you will go from here.
Avatar m tn Absence seizures are more common in children than adults. Someone having an absence seizure may look like he or she is staring into space for a few seconds. Compared with other types of epileptic seizures, absence seizures appear mild. But they can be dangerous. Children with a history of absence seizure must be supervised carefully while swimming or bathing because of the danger of drowning. Teens and adults may be restricted from driving and other potentially hazardous activities.

Avatar m tn If GABA is an inhibitory neurotransmitter, how does diazepam can cause anti-depress? I heard that it can treat seizure? Seizure is a disease that is over-stimulation, repetitive, uncontrolled neuronal firing in CNS. May I know how does it treat seizure? Thanks.

Avatar m tn I don't think people who have a seizure remember the seizure, but he definitely had something. Maybe it's a thyroid problem. He needs to be seen, but an ER is the slowest, most expensive and least efficient way to do it.
Avatar f tn Stress causes seizures and different things I even get stressed out.
Avatar f tn Often times, these medications have kind of an opposite effect on younger adults and teens than they do on adults, which is why there must be caution when putting a young person on an antidepressant. I have to say that I'd urge you to find a new doctor. The "depression leaving the body" as an explanation for your anger is ridiculous. Is he your family doctor?
Avatar m tn I have seen several posts from adults who only use the medication on an "as needed" basis. (sometimes only1 or 2 times a week). This way they also don't start building up a resistance and needing higher and higher doses. I have not heard of it causing the muscle tension.

His heart would also need an evaluation, since syncope can appear as a seizure. Other causes of seizures are abnormalities in the brain either from trauma, or a lesion in the brain.
Avatar f tn It could be epilepsy, but the fact that, from the way you mentioned it, the head banging somewhat woke you up does not point toward a seizure because usually when you come out of a seizure, you are confused, extremely tired, and sore. Also, you wouldn't be able to be woken up from the head banging. Although, the fact that the shower nob held up your head by hair would be suspicious of something more than fainting...

Avatar m tn In adults, MNDs occur more commonly in men than in women, with symptoms appearing after age 40, that doesn't mean it never happens in women in their 30's because it definitely can but it is one heck of a giant leap to connect something that only lasts 1-3 seconds with anything like an MND. Q:Anyone know what this could be? A: I double checked all the physiological explanations i'm aware of and what you've described isn't suggestive or consistent with anything serious...
Avatar m tn Our youngest daughter, who will be 8 in March, had a seizure induced by a fever in early November. The seizure lasted about a minute or less and she was convulsing and lost consciousness. I was shocked and scared because she had not had a febrile seizure since shortly before her third birthday. The only other seizure she had was at 15 months, and again, was a febrile seizure.
