Avatar n tn if someone has seborrheic dermatitis patches around the lips and chin, does it means he has HIV, or is seborrheic dermatitis a common skin condition that affect many people.
Avatar m tn Hello, Since the rash was present above the upper lip and then involved the chin, It can be seborrheic dermatitis. The other possibility would be perioral dermatitis. Seborrheic dermatitis is usually caused by overgrowth of Malassezia furfur. This skin disease commonly affects adolescents and young adults, especially in warm and humid climates and is aggravated by sweating and humidity.
Avatar n tn It first appeared on the lower lip and started spreading across and then to the upper lip. I though it was my lip balm (blistex) so I got rid of it and got a new balm (plamers) but it's still there. It's about 2 weeks now. Please tell me what caused it and what I can do to get rid of it.
Avatar f tn It usually occurs in areas of the body that have many oil-producing glands, including the scalp, face, more specifically on the eyebrows, the bridge and sides of the nose, and in the crease between the nose and lip . The cause of seborrheic dermatitis is not completely clear but may be associated with overgrowth of a normal skin fungus. There is no specific test for diagnosing seborrheic dermatitis. The diagnosis is usually based upon a person's history and physical examination.

Avatar m tn My 5yr old daughter has been getting rashes on her upper lip after drinking Gatorade and some other Fruit Juices. This morning she took one drink out of a plastic bottle of Minute Maid "Original" Orange Juice and a rash formed on her upper lip. A few days after she was born, she was covered with eczema, but after a few weeks, we had it under control and didn't have any further problems with her skin.
Avatar m tn It seems to affect all my hair above the upper lip but I never had this problem anywhere else on the face. Please post a detailed treatment of what should I buy and do for each day. And approximately how long it takes to see results (I'm an idiot that abandons stuff if it doesn't work quickly). I've tried removing the part that covers the hairs with a needle but it doesn't seem to do any good because it irritates the skin even more and it seems as if the dead skin comes back.
Avatar m tn I think this condition is called seborrheic dermatitis. Sometimes it heals alone, and for a couple of days every this is normal and than it shows up again. Can you please help me by telling me what may be causing this problem and how to heal it and stop it from coming again? Thanks for your help.
Avatar m tn Hello, Seborrheic dermatitis is non contagious and hence you cannot transmit it your girlfriend. The rash on the upper lip could have been due to her own seborrheic dermatitis or if it is itchy then we can think about any fungal infection which is contagious. Regarding the bump, it looks like follciulitis after waxing or a small boil caused by a bacterial infection and this can be transmitted. Ask her to keep the area clean and apply some topical antiseptics.
Avatar m tn Hi, back in the fall I started getting red burning and itchy skin around my nose and in my eyebrows and between my nose and upper lip. First I tried to use a moisturizer, but this did not do anything. Next, since I was at college, I had my mom talk to my dermatologist and my dermatologist said to use Hydrocortisone cream 1%. I used this, and it worked very effectively, but what I did not know was that it was bad to use this over a large period of time.
Avatar n tn Differentials for the skin condition will be seborrheic dermatitis, psoriasis , a fungal infection and dermatitis. I do not want to cause unnecessary worrying here. What I have posted are only differentials. These are conditions that may likely explain your symptoms. Seborrheic dermatitis may present as greasy scales over the scalp, chest and armpits. We commonly refer to these flakes as dandruff.
Avatar m tn It started with a very small red patch on my upper lip. Doctor prescibed Novasalic oint and I used it for three years off and on. With time its spreading more and more over the face. I do not use any soap or cleanser at all on my face. (just fresh water wash) THe doctor then prescribed oral Adoxa, Ketoconazole and and it helped for just the duration of medication course. Again i was given injections of lonacart but it did not help.
Avatar f tn Hello, From the symptoms it sounds like seborrheic dermatitis. Seborrheic dermatitis is a common skin condition that causes flaky, dry, white to yellowish scales to form on oily areas esp under the nose or anywhere on face and scalp. You can treat flaking and dryness with over-the-counter dandruff or medicated shampoos. Shampoo the hair vigorously and frequently (preferably daily). Active ingredients in these shampoos include salicylic acid, coal tar, zinc, resorcin, ketoconazole, or selenium.
Avatar n tn When I saw the dermatologist she did not want to treat me for this area instead she wanted to first treat me for this other skin condition that she felt was seborrheic dermatitis. For the last seven years, onset was during my pregnacy with my twins, I have had a slightly reddend area that has somewhat of a hyper exfoliation to it. I have managed to keep this area not a problem by being extremely careful of what I use on my face.
Avatar m tn Hello, I cannot confirm without examination but apart from the possibility of eczema the possibility of seborrheic dermatitis is also there. Seborrheic dermatitis is a common skin condition that causes flaky, dry, white to yellowish scales to form on oily areas esp under the nose or anywhere on face. This skin disease commonly affects adolescents and young adults, especially in warm and humid climates and is aggravated by sweating and humidity.
Avatar n tn I was diagnosed by my dermatologist as having Seborrheic Dermatitis however all medications that I have tried have not been working so my doctor has precribed quite a strong medication called Azapress (a generic medication for Imuran). Thus, my questions are as follows: 1. Will this disease ever go away? 2. What is the success rate for this medication to deal with Seborrheic Dermatitis and what are other options?
Avatar f tn Hence if your child is school going then it is unlikely to be seborrheic dermatitis. However it is often hereditary and if you have been diagnosed with seborrheic dermatitis, then your child carries the risk of having it in future life during adulthood. Moreover it causes redness and inflammation of skin with yellow patches or red, greasy skin covered with flaky white or yellow scales. Hence it is unlikely to be seborrheic dermatitis in your child’s case but confirmation needs to be done.
Avatar m tn I was told by my dermo that I had Seborrheic dermatitis. It was dry itchy and scaly under my beard, in the nose folds, ears and eyebrows. I was given desonate gel to use for 2 weeks and things calmed down. However now I just have a redness itchy forehead. I put moisture cream o it and it doesnt really help. Is this still donsidered Seborrheic dermatitis? And would the desonate gel still be the right rx to use?
