Avatar f tn Moreover it causes redness and inflammation of skin with yellow patches or red, greasy skin covered with flaky white or yellow scales. Hence it is unlikely to be seborrheic dermatitis in your child’s case but confirmation needs to be done. Although dermatologist’s can diagnosed the condition by visual examination but differentiation can be done from psoriasis or eczema by a biopsy of the skin. Hence get it examined from a dermatologist to rule out this condition in your child’s case.

Avatar f tn Hello, From the symptoms it sounds like seborrheic dermatitis. Seborrheic dermatitis is a common skin condition that causes flaky, dry, white to yellowish scales to form on oily areas esp under the nose or anywhere on face and scalp. You can treat flaking and dryness with over-the-counter dandruff or medicated shampoos. Shampoo the hair vigorously and frequently (preferably daily). Active ingredients in these shampoos include salicylic acid, coal tar, zinc, resorcin, ketoconazole, or selenium.
Avatar n tn It is true that seborrheic dermatitis is more common in people with HIV, but that doesn't mean that the condition indicates enhanced risk of having HIV. Seborrheic derm is an exceedingly common condition, which includes everybody with dandruff!. And your dermatologist is correct: the seb derm associated with HIV tends to be severe and difficult to control, pretty much exclusively in people with advanced immune deficiency, i.e. those with overt AIDS.
Avatar f tn Low potency topical glucocorticoids are usually recommended first for the treatment of seborrheic dermatitis. These treatments are available in creams and lotions for the face. The topical steroid should be applied daily until the dermatitis improves; they can then be gradually discontinued. If it persists, it would be best to see your dermatologist for further evaluation and management. Take care and keep us posted.

Avatar f tn Hello, Since seborrheic dermatitis is caused by overgrowth of fungus, so any dietary changes or herbal remedies is not going to help. You can however try the above mentioned treatment once the weaning starts, Till then please keep your skin well hydrated and moisturized . I hope it helps. Take care and regards.
Avatar n tn Some in my family have seborrheic dermatitis. It cleared up on a gluten free diet (no wheat, barley, rye and possibly oats). I'm not saying it will definitely work for you, but it's something for you to try - if it works - no more medicine! If you try the diet, follow it 100% for several months to see if you get improvement. Hope this helps.
1282085 tn?1271747516 I would like to know the very best treatment options to getting rid of this forever if at all possible. How did I figure out how I had Seborrheic dermatitis..well it was via a military doctor who changed my diagnosis that rendered me entry into the military back in 2005. Avatar f tn I have been researching this online and think it is seborrheic dermatitis. I have been using clotrimazole cream twice daily as suggested on the JUST ANSWER DERMATOLOGY site for 3 days now. My question is: what are the stages of healing of this problem? Now I have much more "crusting over" and it is very dry and more itchy than before beginning the use of the cream. By the description I've given do you think it is in the healing process? Thank you ahead of time for your opinion.

Avatar f tn Initially, diagnosed with Contact dermatitis. Then other dermatologists say Seborrheic. Is there anything out there to lighten up scarring on especially the face from the effects of Seborrheic Dermatitis naturally? If not, over the counter. After different meds from different dermatologists . Finally on one that is currently helping, for now, but face is scarred from where the bumps were appearing. Never had blemishes on face like this. Any suggestions to ask my dermatologist?
