It seems clear that the meclizine taper is the way to go to get off of the transdermal scopolamine patch and I will attempt it. In this scenario, from what I've read, Zofran does not appear to be an essential part of the taper. I have also read elsewhere on the web (not only here) that lamictal together with magnesium sulfate is sometimes used to combat the withdrawal symptoms. I saw one person mentioned lamictal but rejected it as a possible solution.
Here is my question.
I recently went on a a 7 day cruise and wore the scopolamine patch from the first day and changed at 3 days. A total of 2 patches. I removed the patch the day I got home within 24 hours of removal I became very ill vomiting and nauseated. This continured throughout the next day. I called the Dr. and she told me to take dramamine. I remembered I had one patch left so I applied the patch again. Within 3 hours I was feeling better and that next day began to feel better.
What is the best way to wean off the scopolamine patch in an elderly person? Can we use the cream instead and slowly increase the time between use?
I've been diagnosed with labyrinthitis and have been wearing a scopolamine patch for the past 4 weeks. I've heard to cover 1/4, then 1/2, and then 3/4 of the patch to wean off avoid withdrawal. I'm 48 hours into covering 1/4 of the patch and i have a horrible headache, dizzy, and nauseated. Any help, tips, welcome. I just want to be able to go to work and take care of my kids like a normal person again.
My husband also had severe withdrawal from the scopolamine patch. He wore the patch for three weeks. Within 24 hours after removing the patch, he had severe nausea that didn't let up after four days. His doctors told us to wean off the patch this way: Put a band-aid over 1/4 of the patch first, after 3 days put the band-aid over 1/2 of the patch, then after the next three days cover 3/4 of the patch. It took a little over a week but it worked great!
Hi all! I was recently put on the 12mcg per he patch by my pain managment doc. After a wek of withdrawal he upped me to 25mcg per hour. I have been on it for 6 days ( 2 patch cycles) and am still in full withdrawal. I have an adhesive allergy and altho I'm not breaking out I. Hives or having a visible reaction is it possible that my body is just not absorbing the medication? Has anyone else had a similar issue?
I was put on a scopolamine patch in Sept.'10 and have been wearing it fr the last 8 months. It is pute HELL everytime I try to get off of it. The Dr.s have diagnosed me with Meniere's Disease but I can't get off the patch for them to do definitive testing. My Dr. has put me on an oral for of scopolamine but if I am even an hour or two late taking my dose I am deathly ill. And each tinme I get sick it is worse than the time beforel.
Has anyone with scopolamine patch withdrawal just tried to go cold turkey and tough it out? IF so, how long did it take you to feel better?
I was wondering if you all have any tips for avoiding sickness post-surgery. Did the scopolamine patch work for you? Zofran? I would love any advice to ease my mind! Thanks so much!!
Has anyone tied the scopolamine patch to alleviate depression? I have been on so many different anti-depressants for over 15 years; nothing alleviates it. I heard that many people have had relief from the patch when no other drugs seem to work, but I am scared to try it after reading the posts above. Please let me know if you have tried this patch to alleviate depression and what your results were/are. Thank you.

I'm prescribed a lidoderm 5% patch, which is basically a patch infused with lidocaine. It helps with the nerve/muscle type pain I have in the lower left leg facing outward. By itself, for bad pain it wouldn't be worth the money, but I'm prescribed Lortab 10/650's ( a narcotic ) and the two used together seem to help lower this pain better than either one treatment alone.
No side effects but I am not sure that it is doing anything for me. It is an MAOI transdermal patch. It requires a restrictive diet or you can go into a hypertensive crisis.

As for my experience with transdermal fentanyl, when I used that patch, I found them effective to 2 days only, after only 3-6 months of use.
For me, the problem with transdermal fentanyl was a rapid development of opioid tolerance. Within 18 months of use, my dose had gone from 25 to 100 ug, and I needed another adjustment upward. Instead of doing that, my doc and I chose to use another long-acting opioid medication.

I have been wearing the patch for ~2 hours at this point and have some decent relief. I am suppose to leave the patch on for 72 hours as most patients. If I at any point feel nausea (or any reason) and want to remove is that ok? I only get ten a month and for some reason as of now my insurance company wont cover the fentanyl. They are very expensive ~120-140$. If I decided to take it off can I remove and store in plastic bag until a later time. It could be a few hours or the next day.
I just recently started using the Nicotine Transdermal Patch to help me quit smoking. I made the mistake of not reading the entire information slip before starting it. Right now I am on the 21 mg patch, and I have been smoking a little here and there after taking off the patch. I have a severe headache, I am nausious, my lungs feel like their closes up, which is making my asthma worse, and now I have a pain in my right arm. Is this a sign of a nicotine overdose? If so, what should I do?
Sometimes a transdermal testosterone patch will help by increasing the number of red oxygen carrying blood cells, but this has it's drawbacks.
She prescribed scopolamine patch, did nothing. I told her my vision was getting blurry. I went to optometrist since I wear glasses, got new glasses just in case, no improvement. CT with contrast and inner ear normal. First neurologist said I have something like disembarkment syndrome but I did not disembarkment anything. I have been on the Mylan Brand patch now for 7 years, just recently changed to the Johnson&johnson brand due to having no insurance, because the Mylan were $270 per month and the J&J are at no cost to me. The patch had been replaced approximately 24 hours prior. She has been on the Fentanyl Patch (100 mcg) for about 3 years and uses a tegaderm patch over it to hold it in place. It was on her stomach. She always places the patches on her stomach or upper arm in a fatty area. This is the 4th ER visit in the past 12 months due to withdrawals. Why is her body not absorbing the medication?
