Hello, my husband and I returned from a cruise three days ago and he seems to be experiencing scopolamine withdrawal--no nausea, but all the other symptoms including anxiety. Thanks so much for this information. I'm going to call his doctor as soon as he's awake again and can tell me which doctor prescribed it.

I'm a 58-year-old white female who has had S.L.E. for approximately 35 years. My primary manifestation is severe and debilitating nausea. I also now have heart involvement and am pacer dependent. I have an excellent gastroenterologist. He and other doctors have said that it's a very difficult case to treat. It is unusual as it is marked by very few remissions and has become drug resistant. On a typical day I will wake up with severe nausea, and it sometimes lessens after 3-4 hours.
No migraines, no nausea. GP gave me meclizine, did nothing. EENT did a hearing test and ENG, both normal. She prescribed scopolamine patch, did nothing. I told her my vision was getting blurry. I went to optometrist since I wear glasses, got new glasses just in case, no improvement. CT with contrast and inner ear normal. First neurologist said I have something like disembarkment syndrome but I did not disembarkment anything.
I've been diagnosed with labyrinthitis and have been wearing a scopolamine patch for the past 4 weeks. I've heard to cover 1/4, then 1/2, and then 3/4 of the patch to wean off avoid withdrawal. I was put on a scopolamine patch in Sept.'10 and have been wearing it fr the last 8 months. It is pute HELL everytime I try to get off of it. The Dr.s have diagnosed me with Meniere's Disease but I can't get off the patch for them to do definitive testing. My Dr. has put me on an oral for of scopolamine but if I am even an hour or two late taking my dose I am deathly ill. And each tinme I get sick it is worse than the time beforel.
It seems clear that the meclizine taper is the way to go to get off of the transdermal scopolamine patch and I will attempt it. In this scenario, from what I've read, Zofran does not appear to be an essential part of the taper. I have also read elsewhere on the web (not only here) that lamictal together with magnesium sulfate is sometimes used to combat the withdrawal symptoms. I saw one person mentioned lamictal but rejected it as a possible solution.

Everything I eat causes extreme pain in my upper abdomen, extremely watery diarrhea 6+ times a day, constant nausea and vomiting. A few weeks later, at work (customer service), I started getting extremely lightheaded during the day accompanied by blurred vision, to the point where I had to go home from work. It became so bad that the nausea started and I would dry heave (it seems my stomach is strong and won't let me vomit).
