scopolamine and vertigo

I am currently using a transdermal scopolamine patch for vertigo. I suffer from profound episodes of vertigo, so the doctor has prescribed me a 1.5 mg transderm patch. I only use it when the vertigo is extremely severe. My problem is this: When I apply the patch, (behind the ear, either right or left) I immmediately experience extreme anisocoria in whichever eye is nearer the patch.

Hi Gina. I tried posting a comment to you a minute ago, but I don't think it worked so here's the message again. My wife has had the same symptoms as you after using the Transderm-Scop patch on a 7 day cruise that ended Jan. 20. The symptoms started just over 24 hours after she took the patch off.

It seems clear that the meclizine taper is the way to go to get off of the transdermal scopolamine patch and I will attempt it. In this scenario, from what I've read, Zofran does not appear to be an essential part of the taper. I have also read elsewhere on the web (not only here) that lamictal together with magnesium sulfate is sometimes used to combat the withdrawal symptoms. I saw one person mentioned lamictal but rejected it as a possible solution. Here is my question.

What is the best way to wean off the scopolamine patch in an elderly person? Can we use the cream instead and slowly increase the time between use?

Got up 2 hours later and had a MAJOR attack of vertigo just as I entered my tiled bathroom. Nice long bruise along my right arm from the elbow almost to my wrist, skinned knees and sore muscles. But..I accomplished my goal. I felt as if an earthquake had hit (I do not live on the west coast;-) and my bathroom counter tops were spinning. My goal was not to hit my mouth on the counter. In that , I was successful.

I recently went on a a 7 day cruise and wore the scopolamine patch from the first day and changed at 3 days. A total of 2 patches. I removed the patch the day I got home within 24 hours of removal I became very ill vomiting and nauseated. This continured throughout the next day. I called the Dr. and she told me to take dramamine. I remembered I had one patch left so I applied the patch again. Within 3 hours I was feeling better and that next day began to feel better.

I've been diagnosed with labyrinthitis and have been wearing a scopolamine patch for the past 4 weeks. I've heard to cover 1/4, then 1/2, and then 3/4 of the patch to wean off avoid withdrawal. I'm 48 hours into covering 1/4 of the patch and i have a horrible headache, dizzy, and nauseated. Any help, tips, welcome. I told the nurse and she removed the scopolamine patch behind my left ear. I had never been given that before and have no idea why they decided to use it. I went home from the hospital with blurry vision and 2 weeks later not much has improved. Symptoms: bright light hurts eyes- must use hat and sunglasses outdoors dizzy and distorted vision when in bright light cannot drive riding in car makes me sick if my eyes stay open can only use the computer limited time approx.

I was put on a scopolamine patch in Sept.'10 and have been wearing it fr the last 8 months. It is pute HELL everytime I try to get off of it. The Dr.s have diagnosed me with Meniere's Disease but I can't get off the patch for them to do definitive testing. My Dr. has put me on an oral for of scopolamine but if I am even an hour or two late taking my dose I am deathly ill. And each tinme I get sick it is worse than the time beforel.

I have an exploratory laparoscopy in a week and a half for infertility issues and suspected endo. I haven't really had surgery aside from my wisdom teeth, and as a complete and utter emetophobe I am petrified of being sick that day or so afterwards from the anesthesia/pain meds. I was wondering if you all have any tips for avoiding sickness post-surgery. Did the scopolamine patch work for you? Zofran? I would love any advice to ease my mind! Thanks so much!!

I went on a cruise this past weekend and decided to try the scopolamine motion sickness patch. I removed the patch after wearing it for a day and a half because I noticed my right eye had fully dilated. Its unclear if my eye was directly infected by me touching the patch and then my eye or if this was just a side effect (i don't remember touching my eye). My right eye has been dilated for four days now, each day going down a little.

I have been going to my doctor about my problem of spitting mucus every 20 minutes especially after eating but after taking injection and the drugs he gives me, the problem never ease. I have lot hope about the curing my spitting mucus a lot. Do you know what my problem may be? Thanks.

Now, a VA doctors comes out to my house and tells me that he now thinks that I have Vertigo and Movement Vertigo which is causing my Anxiety situation. Can I be treated for vertigo and Tinnitus after all these years with success or is it too later for me now that 30 yrs have gone by without treatment of any kind? I too have major depression and have tried all of the drugs that are out on the market and they have not worked for me. I tried a patch years ago but I don't remember the name but that did not work either. There is an old drug that you might want to ask your doctor about and it is called Parnate. This was the only drug out of all the drugs that I have tried that has worked for me.

Yeah, I know they *should* have told be, but they didn't, and it would probably take another two months to schedule this test if I have to reschedule. I'm in the middle of trying to finish my dissertation and between my headaches and this vertigo its already taken enough of a toll out on me. I don't know that I really want to wait another couple of months for this test to know something.

Assuming you have vertigo and it's not a symptom of anxiety attacks, which it very often is, there are gentler methods of treating it than an antidepressant you have to take all the time and that is hard to stop taking. Ginger is a natural remedy that helps many with this problem, and there are drugs such as antivert you only need to take as needed. The question here is, why do you have vertigo?

While getting the migranes, having a cup of chamomille tea at night helped much. Also, my mom and other relatives had vertigo and felt normal a week after having the medications, therefore, I believe I don't have vertigo. But see a neurologist, it doesn't hurt to get a second or even third opinion, good luck.

d - but I have issues with Vertigo and dizziness. The vertigo is experienced only when I am laying down versus the dizzy spells when I am upright. I suppose they may be the same thing - but the vertigo is definitely a "room spinning" sensation, whereas the dizziness is more of a disorientated type of feeling. Such technical jargon, I know!! :) Anyway, evil neuro #1 sent me for an ENG/VNG test. That was interesting.

Had vertigo 2 years and more, doctors keep labelling it Menirse disease which is vertigo but I believe a trigger has caused it , I'm 35 and it came about with inner ear infection when staying on farm and also being around black mold, since then and ear infections have kind of stopped , the vertigo remained
