Avatar m tn I just went to a different vet and this vet wants my dog on a new diet that the vet said is just as good it is the Science diet cd prescription. My question is is this science diet just as good or should I stay with the royal canin urinary so 14 diet. My dog has not had any problems and he has been doing really good. Please help. If I can save some money this way it would be great.
5794635 tn?1374412055 What is the vet prescription diet, Science Diet? That's what our vet prescribed for suspected allergy problems in our Westi. First, there seems to be a strong opinion that Science Diet isn't the "best" and the Prescription looks to me to be suspect to say the least. There is much better non-prescription foods available, and for less money. Ask what the diet is: avoid Beef and Chicken, the usual suspects. Then pick a high scoring food that meets the goal.
Avatar f tn One of my dogs was recently put on HIll's Prescription Diet C/D. My question is, can I give my other dog the C/D as well? He does not need the prescription diet, and he is in good health, it's just easier to feed them the same food. My vet said it wouldn't hurt him, but does the C/D provide the correct nutrients etc. for a healthy dog? Would it be better to continue him on his normal food, or is there no harm in feeding him the C/D? Thanks!
Avatar n tn High protein diets are a current fad, and some of them might one day prove out -- we just have to see what happens when we have a lot of years of people eating this way and see what happens to them. The main diet since the invention of agriculture, which made modern economies and the corresponding advances that ultimately came with clean water and abundant food that increased our lifespans, is grains, legumes, and fruits and veggies.
Avatar m tn How were you treated for Graves Disease? Are you now hypo? Are you on thyroid replacement hormones? If so, which ones, what dosage and for how long have you been on it? It's possible that you need to increase your med dosage, if you aren't losing weight. Typically, when thyroid hormone levels are adequate weight will come off. If you have current labs you could post, that would be helpful for us.
Avatar f tn Anyone have any experience with raw diets? My poor dog seems to be allergic to everything he eats. Hes on a prescription hypoallergenic diet now and he's doing ok with it but its super expensive and it gives him bad breath. There has to be something better for him out there but until I find it I was thinking of going raw. One of my coworkers highly recommended it but all the information I can find on it is either all for it or all against it.
Avatar m tn t help but notice a lot of this could be due to diet and alcohol consumption. The question is, how much can those numbers rise if I eliminate alcohol? Sure, it probably depends on how much I drink / give-up. Like, if I have one beer per day vs. 5 'shots' of Whiskey or Vodka. Has the damage already been done, so to speak, or can I turn this around by making some changes in my life? Have you come across any research on this topic?
Avatar f tn I have a 7-year-old cat that I adopted when she was about 2. She is spayed and up-to-date on vaccinations, lives mostly indoors but usually goes out for a few hours every day, and is treated monthly with Advantage. About 2 years ago, she started developing a skin issue. She gets scabs around her eyes, under her chin, and sometimes on her back and sides. Sometimes the skin around her anus becomes red and scabby and loses hair.
Avatar n tn s are big cats. He has always ate Science Diet 7+ years, just because our other cats eat it, and all have remained healthy. Does this sound to anyone like beginning kidney failure? Any info would be appreciated.
Avatar m tn Some cats have the manufacturing capability in their bodies to produce struvite crystals from the ingredients supplied to them in their diet. C/D is a prescription diet that has eliminated those ingredients so that your cat can no longer produce the crystals. A cat with a urinary tract problem, whether an infection, inflammation, or crystal production should be on an all canned or all wet diet with no dry food for life also.
926462 tn?1284819011 My cat has been on a steady diet of dry cat food for several years. I was feeding her "Science Diet" and then she started to gain weight. I then switched to "Science Diet" light...she is still overweight. I don't over feed her, she eats about 1&1/2 cups per day. I also give her about 3-4 treats a day (hairball treatment). In the morning, I also give her about 1/8 cup of 2% milk, or sometimes yogurt.
Avatar n tn t care for the prescription foods, or not for long anyway. If I could make a suggestion, look up and join the kidney diet group on yahoo. The moderators there are awesome and they can help you design a fresh food diet for your dog that is tasty, renal friendly, and meets nutritional requirements.

Avatar f tn I cannot open the www.infobarrell/.com site for Kidney Failure Diet....is there another link to this diet?
Avatar f tn I don't even know what "orijen and primal rabbit formula" means and that's why I didn't respond sooner. Indeed, not just protein, in fact some dogs have allergies to some proteins. I have such a dog, a 20 pound Westie. He is now on a Hill's Prescription Z/D to eliminate raw protein in his diet.
