Science diet vs prescription diet

Common Questions and Answers about Science diet vs prescription diet

Avatar f tn I don't see much in the way of healthy whole grains in your daily diet, except for the oatmeal you mentioned. Brown rice, polenta, quinoa, barley, bulgur...they are all wonderfully healthy and full of fiber. They give you energy that isn't quickly turned into fat by your body. Plus they help fill you up. You should try to include one healthy grain serving at each meal. Lunches could be served on whole grain bread (not sure if you are doing this or not).
1943833 tn?1349280189 I have a 16 week old boxer who has been diagnosed with renal failure (most likely congenital). He is now on the Science Hill R/D diet (1 can wet with a 1/2c dry mixed in, 2x daily), pepcid once a day and a phosphorus blocker. We are doing sub-q fluids at home, 300ml every other day. He is now very active, eating well, peeing & pooping well, just not drinking much. My question is this...
874521 tn?1424120397 Nemo needs to go on a prescription diet of a type of SO formula and lots of hydration..... PROBLEM, Nemo was starving himself when I got him as a kitten it took weeks of trying EVERY food available and I mean EVERY to get him to finally eat this EVO...grain free dry food..... So now again my Vet and I have attempted to give him EVERY food avail. in a SO formula....with NO luck. Its not just fussiness with him, because he won't even get close to the food, he smells it from a foot away and leaves.
443968 tn?1288616289 Well I know we are a little bit early but any insights about what to do breastfeeding vs formula. I am leaning more towards breastfeeding, but still confuse about which pump to buy, some of them can be pretty expensive around 300 bucks. Any ideas girls.
Avatar m tn for months with strict diet and herbal remedies. I am not sure we have such a talent available in this day and age. Wish you and all safe recovery.
498132 tn?1217465082 This makes me more mad because I think I may actually have CFS or adrenal burnout as of so many other symptoms point towards these and depression is actually listed as a symptom of these. To make matters worse, they ignore the fact that my diet could be causing this because I have told them about how lacking my diet is in many nutrients and minerals and I think that a nutritional plan etc would eliminate the depression, but do they help? no.
Avatar n tn I have taken prescription strength anti-inflammatories for a week with no response in these areas. However, I know the med's shelf life is good because swelling in my breast decreased dramatically when I started taking them. I become easily fatigued, needing naps, going to bed early, still having hard time waking in morning. My dr can see the swelling so he knows this is not in my head, yet, I am still feeling like a nuisance.

Prescription Remedies for Erectile Dysfunction You can always see your doctor and talk to them about treating erectile dysfunction by using prescription remedies for erectile dysfunction. After confirming what the cause of your condition is, they will advise you on your prescription treatment options.
685623 tn?1283485207 As I was reviewing questions at our other forum, I came across one from a user who wanted to know why most veterinarians carry Science Diet or Royal Canin or some other premium food when there are so many websites stating that these foods are bad. As I answered his concerns, I thought “this will be a great blog post…but it will be controversial!!” I do ask that you read all the way to the end before you make an assumption that I am in favor of any one product.
Avatar f tn Did you adjust your diet at all? I'm considering a substantial reduction in gluten and dairy (hard to give up completely) to see if that helps as well.
Avatar m tn 75 grams of soluble fiber from barley per serving can claim that, when used as part of a diet that is low in saturated fat and cholesterol, the product may reduce the risk of heart disease. Me itself taking this and found a huge difference in cholesterol numbers. For example if not take it I got 198 total cholesterol and after taking barley grass (just 500 mg daily) total cholesterol reduced to 166 without any kind of additional exercise or other diet change.
1063764 tn?1272824664 Problem with Folic Acid is that it must first be broken down in the body to be effective. Deplin vs. Folic Acid Folic acid is a man-made product that needs to broken down by the body through a lengthy 4-step process. Folate that comes from your diet (e.g green vegetables) must undergo a 3-step transformation. Deplin is already in a state for immidiate absorbsion and is designed for people taking antidepressants that have major Depression or Bi-polar dissorder.
874521 tn?1424120397 One of my fur babies also has urinary crystals and he was given science diet SD and CD from the vet. We did a little research and realized how horrible science diet is for cats even though the vet will tell you how great it is. We switched him to wellness and he has had no problems at all. He gets 1/2 pouch of wet food in the morning and and another half at night and then he has a bowl of dry food out all day. They key is trying to keep them as hydrated as helps!
Avatar m tn Should he wait until mainstream science catches up with the current science, when, as you say, he has little time left? I think your AASLD guidelines have not panned out for him (4x), and it is time to try science-based antifibrotic therapy.
921323 tn?1268679412 Despite the fact that we have effective treatments, we are not very effective in their prescription or compliance. For example, aggressive lifestyle modification can lower heart disease risk as effectively as cholesterol medication for many people — but the fact of the matter is, some people would rather take a pill. Obesity has skyrocketed despite our efforts at communication. So, it looks like the health care system has failed as well.
1358341 tn?1282213443 when did you change from the Renal Canin special diet to Science Diet???? Did the diarrhea start after the change??? I'm sorry I really have to disagree with your Vet......from everything I read, Dry food is an absolute NO NO for CRF cats...I can't understand why Your Vet tells you otherwise??
1118884 tn?1338596450 yet none of hers are overweight or have urinary tract problems...she has them on a Science Diet ..??!! Wellness was my choice for Diego when I first got him. I stopped as budget was a concern. I recently picked up a couple of cans when in Petco and he loved...divided small can into two servings. I'm committed to reducing calories he takes in daily... I need answers from vet. May keep kibble...tho' Diego started sneezing yesterday and is having loose stools..

1344197 tn?1392822771 Providers of these compounds often claim they are “A natural, safer alternative to prescription drugs, Can help with weight loss, Prevent Alzheimer’s” and many others unfounded benefits. In addition, these providers often suggest that Bioidentical Hormones can only be obtained from a compounding pharmacy. The fact is that there are many FDA-approved bioidentical hormone products available in the U.S. today. In fact, they have been available in the U.S. since 1975!
Avatar f tn Well, I understand what you are saying. But she threw up again today after not eating breakfast. I'm just not sure what's going on. I'm ok w/ learning a new way to do things w/ her. I admit that I'm a very scheduled person and love predictability... but something in my gut is just saying something is off w/ her. So she skipped breakfast and I was trying to be ok w/ it and say to myself that she'd eat later, but then she threw up.
Avatar n tn And I actually improved the weightloss when I doubled the meat (the calorie count on packet agreed with my assessment but when I was weighing it it was double the prescription in the diet). Whether you exercise or not the net calories consumed should be 500, I personally tried working out like crazy and ate 500 and lost NOTHING even though without exercise (with the casual walk here and there) I was losing 2.5 lbs a day.
Avatar m tn His first recommendation still would be diet and exercise in combination with a low glycemic or low carbohydrate diet. There are of course side effects associated with Metformin as all medications, the most common of which are gastrointestinal and some potential for thyroid, specifically TSH, issues. He has not been in the office today---but as I said, I will go over the articles sent and let you know what he has to say in this regard.
730826 tn?1317946934 (For example, the very expensive prescription-only N/D Science Diet for cancer dogs gets its protein from beef lung- very cheap low quality protein source.) The best foods should not have grains or glutens, as these are fillers that stress your dogs kidneys/liver over time, and can lead to shortened life span or kidney/liver or othwe problems, etc.. The best foods should have meat protein sources listed in the first five ingredients, and be grain and gluten-free.
931415 tn?1244681111 ” That statement epitomizes the attitude that infuses The Oprah Winfrey Show when it comes to medical issues and science. Anecdotes trump science, and scientists should “respect” pseudoscience because of feelings and a desire for “quality of life.” Indeed, thees are exactly the attitudes that permeate the CAM movement and the antivaccine movement.
Avatar n tn re: "I believe that this is possible" Unfortunately the wish to believe something doesn't magically make it a reality. Given that there is a large % of the public who are myopic there are many people searching for answers and it seems unlikely that something simple like that would have been missed by the myriad doctors and researchers searching for a way to improve vision, including often to improve their own. As this MD explains: http://www.geteyesmart.
Avatar f tn ) vs. gastroparesis vs. IBS vs. leak gut vs. some sort of malabsorption (carbs etc.). And here’s a blurb from a wiki page I found for LPR -- The lower esophageal sphincter, which is the valve between the stomach and the esophagus, may not close properly due to a hiatal hernia or GERD, allowing acid to enter the esophagus and GASES to escape to the mouth.
Avatar n tn That's similar to what I've been saying, but HCG does play an invaluable role in this diet. You can lose on a 500 cal diet w/out HCG but can you stay on that diet? I've been on both diets: 500 Calorie 'with' HCG and 500 calorie 'without' HCG. (Read my post about that from 6/15). Believe me - this is sooooooooo much easier to do this 500 Cal diet WITH HCG than it was without. Without, I was miserable, hungry constantly and couldn't stick with the diet.
695000 tn?1316139648 But I've tried dieting before and I felt great (I am talking about Ann Boroch's MS diet not losing weight diet...(although god only knows how many times I've tried the losing weight one too!))..and it was too hard so I stopped and now I feel more symptoms. I will try again. If I get worse, then I will try meds...but somehow, my gut is not comfortable with meds right now...
280891 tn?1261016650 He started his research in the 1950's and has had good results. There is web site supporting his diet. The Paleo Diet has also shown success in treating these neurological diseases. If you want to find out why you have MS Hal Huggins has a book "Solving The MS Mystery Help Hope and Recovery". It is my understanding that the earlier in the disease you address the problem the better chance you have of recovery. Is it all about our genes being messed up?
