Avatar n tn Within a few days, the redness fades and a finely textured rash, sometimes referred to as a sandpaper rash, develops. The rash is caused by toxins produced by the streptococcal bacteria. The rash and skin discoloration usually last for about three to seven days, at which time there may be peeling of skin around the fingertips and toes and in the groin area. ref:http://www.medem.com/search/article_display.cfm?path=n:&mstr=/ZZZWSJ2K1AC.
Avatar f tn As far as I know it is bacterial... the bacterial illness, scarlet fever, causes a distinctive pink-red rash, which occurs when the bacteria release toxins. Scarlet fever is extremely contagious - people can catch it by breathing in the bacteria in airborne droplets that come from an infected individual's sneezes or coughs. Infection may also occur as a result of touching the skin of an infected person, or touching surfaces or objects that the infected person has touched.

Avatar n tn Sorry, hit enter too fast. Anyway I don't think it can be either scarlet fever or Fifth disease because of the rash and fever. I can see Fifth disease to still be possible, because it may act differently in adults than kids. But I don't think it could be scarlet fever at all. I mean it usually comes it a facial rash yes, but also a high fever, strawberry tongue, and then a full on rash. Also you feel pretty freaking miserable if you got it.
Avatar m tn (only strep infection). Or even Scarlet fever with no rash? Also, when I had Strep I had the tendency to self-induce vomit by using my ring and middle fingers, could that generalized the strep infection towards my fingers which still lasts until now?
Avatar f tn My son had high fever with rash on his hands arms, back and chest. We took him to the doctor and he diagnosed Scarlet fever. He priscribed Amoxicillin for 10 days. He started taking it and 3rd day his fever was gone, rash was gone. I sent him to day care for one day as I had to go to office and he came back with minor fever again. We thought his antibiotics is still not finished may be he will be fine. Next morning his legs badly hurt. Then I notice he was starting pink eye.
Avatar f tn Hi any help is much appreciated. So 5 days ago I had a fever of about 102 to 103 then at one point the fever stopped right after it stopped I got a rash that started under my armpits and inner thighs and my pelvic where my stomach meets my groin and the back of my knees. Rheumatic fever is characterized by appearance of a rash, skin nodules, joint pains, fever, heart problem, and involuntary movements .
Avatar f tn Hi I took my 4yr old Son to the doctors again yesterday with a fever, huge tonsils and breath that smelt. The doctore gave antibiotics for an infection to the tonsils and he thought the adenoids were also infected. This has been the third lot of antibiotics in the past three months for tonsil infections. Basically the doctor askd how attached he was to his tonsils because he was going to refer him to ENT at the hospital.
Avatar n tn The rash of scarlet fever is usually associated with headache and a fever .The rash has a rough feel to it and may be reddish over the arms and legs. However ,in your case the rash does not appear like this based on the images. A superimposed viral infection is your physician's primary differential. Continue to obeserve the rash and note for any scaling of the skin or development of enlarged lymph nodes especially over the neck. Take lots of fluids and eat well.
Avatar m tn The term Scarlatina may be used interchangeably with Scarlet Fever, though it is commonly used to indicate the less acute form of Scarlet Fever that is often seen since the beginning of the twentieth century.

Avatar f tn I've got a rash. Started on my arms, now all over my body. Getting worse not better. Went to the docs she said scarlet fever but I don't have any other symptoms other than the rash. She put me on anti biotics but nothing is getting better after 2 days of taking them, and I've had the rash for 6 days now. My groin lymph nodes are swollen. I have a blocked ear and doc also said my throat is inflamed. Rash is just lots of little bumps. Some in clusters. Sometimes pink.
Avatar f tn Well, has she had a strep test? The rash could be scarlet fever from the strep infection. I had a strep infection without a sore throat, but with scarlet fever, and every joint in my body was involved. I could barely walk. I had no idea strep could cause these symptoms. You can also have a negative rapid strep test. What you really need is a culture and a blood draw to make sure. I got the run around for quite a while.
1798872 tn?1346164585 No, but check both scarlet fever and rheumatic fever on wiki. The immune response initiated by scarlet fever can lead to rheumatic fever. Said immune response destroyed my mother's heart valves because cartilage and the bacteria's cell wall are somewhat similar.
Avatar f tn t itch and I no fever. I had slept with a tampon in, and was concerned about TSS, but had no other symptoms. I went to the hospital the next day, as the rash had spread to my hips, underarms, and inner arms (again, red, macupapular). Doctor did a CBC and told me that I was negative for mono, said I didn't have strep (although I'm not sure where this came from, she did not perform a swab test), and that it was probably a virus and the rash should disappear in the next day or two.
Avatar f tn Hello there, I'm a 20 year old female wondering if it's possible that I am experiencing symptoms of acute HIV. Here's the background: Possible exposures: sex with man (status unknown), with condom, just over a month ago. Almost two weeks ago, oral sex (giving and receiving) with a different man (status unknown), ejaculated in my mouth both times.
Avatar f tn Monday I got a severe burning sore throat with no other symptoms. Tuesday sore throat was worse I could barely swallow. Went to MD and had a strep throat test- negative. Also swollen lymph nodes in neck and slight fever 101. No other cold or flu symptoms. I can only swallow ice water or ice chips. After 3 days I now have a blistery rash on my hands also. Could this be mono or something else- should I see Dr again?
Avatar n tn If your daughter is a child then the possibility of rocky mountain spotted fever, Kawasaki disease and scarlet fever are there. Rash in all these involves the palms and soles and is a red, shiny rash. Investigations and blood tests are needed to confirm the diagnosis. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your dermatologist.
Avatar n tn Other possibilities needed to be ruled out are viral exanthem, Mycoplasma pneumoniae - serological test and chest radiography is important to rule out and should be treated with appropriate antibiotic, Rocky Mountain spotted fever (it is tick borne disease and needs serological test for diagnosis), infectious mononucleosis, scarlet fever; as a result of streptococcal tonsillopharyngitis, Kawasaki disease, and dengue. Hence, you need to undergo serological tests for few common causes.
Avatar n tn her tongue is normal, i saw about acarlett fever, she does not act sick, no fever associated with this, her reg fam dr said it is eczema and said deal with it basically, like it is no big deal......i think it is a big deal, it is getting worse, her skin is getting rougher and rougher. the rash is red, raised slightly, kinda in big patches, but then there are also small sections too.....some areas are worse than others.
Avatar n tn I am very worried for him, and I know that the doctors are doing all the right tests for him, MRI-more blood work. Also does anyone know if scarlet fever has any type of relationship with these tests? My son had scarlet fever 3 times. Thank you for your help.
