Avatar m tn But, Strep Group A can cause a variety of invasive types of illnessness secondary to the original strep throat. these are rheumatic fever, scarlet fever, endocarditis, glomerulonephritis. They need to determine if he got any of these complications (which are rare) .By doing more tests. Did they ever culture Group A strep from his throat? It takes a few months for the ASO titer to go down and also for the lymph nodes to go down.
Avatar m tn (only strep infection). Or even Scarlet fever with no rash? Also, when I had Strep I had the tendency to self-induce vomit by using my ring and middle fingers, could that generalized the strep infection towards my fingers which still lasts until now?
Avatar n tn the disease usually comes along a couple of weeks after someone has popped up with a stubborn strep infection like strep throat or scarlet fever (which is almost unheard of these days w. the scarlet fever). The parts of your body that can be effect is your heart, brain, joints of your body mimicking rheumatoid arthritis and believe it or not your skin. It is considered to be an inflamatory disease in other words causing any of these parts of your body or a portion of them to swell up.
Avatar f tn Well, has she had a strep test? The rash could be scarlet fever from the strep infection. I had a strep infection without a sore throat, but with scarlet fever, and every joint in my body was involved. I could barely walk. I had no idea strep could cause these symptoms. You can also have a negative rapid strep test. What you really need is a culture and a blood draw to make sure. I got the run around for quite a while.
503418 tn?1231098736 Well, pus indicates an infection, and if serious there should be a fever. If the condition is strep throat (tonsillitis), that is a specific type of infection caused by the streptococcus bacteria. Strep tonsillitis can cause secondary damage to the heart valves (rheumatic fever) and kidneys (glomerulonephritis).
Avatar n tn Well, Heather pretyy much said it all. A titer of 1:160 is pretty low. In the presence of arthritis and/or an elevated Sed Rate it, still might be important. For the majority of kids with a low-positive ANA it doesn't indicate a true underlying disease. Scarlet Fever is the just rash of the strep germ, especially of strep throat, though the infection can be other places. It is not really a separate disease than a strep infection.
Avatar m tn I got scarlet fever while pregnant in 02 I think you will be ok if you feel as though you have it go to the dr for antibotics :)
Avatar f tn I was so freaked out because they suddenly became concerned about it turning into scarlet fever, etc. The antibiotic they had put him on was resistant to strep. Just wanted you to know the possibilites, but hopefully your little one will be well soon. Best wishes and God bless!
606078 tn?1247264553 Scarlet Fever is caused by Strepococcus bacterial infection (group A Strep) that can in some patients remain latent for some time and then reappear. In most patients the exposure and development of immunity occurs in childhood, but it can cause the condition in adults that were never exposed as children or in adults that carry a latent infection that can reappear due to immune suppression, trauma, surgery, or other situations.
Avatar f tn sounds like scarlet fever, which is what my doctor told me that i had. the rashes on the hands especially explain it.
Avatar m tn My son got his first strep infection at 9years old almost 10. It came on suddenly w/in hours. He wasn't feeling good so I kept him home, He took a nap and woke up w/ a rash everywhere except for his neck and face and a 102.5 fever. When he tried to get up his knee hurt tremendously and he couldn't walk. Dr. tested him for strep and decided it was Scarlet fever, possibly Rheumatic fever. With his heart murmur we have been going through those procedures as well.
Avatar f tn Hey there, I'm a 20 year old female concerned about catching something after having a man (of unknown status) ejaculate in my mouth twice. Five days after, I woke up with a swollen/sore throat and red, sunburn-like rash covering my groin, buttocks, breasts & surrounding area, but it didn't itch and I no fever. I had slept with a tampon in, and was concerned about TSS, but had no other symptoms.
Avatar f tn Maybe you should be tested for hand, foot, and mouth. This can cause sore throat and also peeling of skin on hands and feet. You should return to your dr. as he or she may need to give you another round of antibiotics for the strep. Hope you get well soon.
Avatar n tn It is possible that you got scarlet fever but usually the antibiotics take care of the rash that you get with it. The rash usually starts on the chest, neck and armpits then spreads to other parts of the body. It is due to a toxin the strep produces. But it usually starts sooner than yours did. So, if it isn't scarlet fever, then it could be an allergy to the antibiotic perhaps that took some time for your immune system to trigger it.
Avatar m tn looking for advise, my son is 9+yrs and has had a stiff neck since oct/nov last year. suddenly 2mo's ago he got really swollen glands with sore throat and bad chest infection with wheezing asthma, followed by high fever ard 5days later. it affected his liver too for e next 2months_swollen and palpable, with upset stomach and pain below the ribs. the doc suspected EBV, so he was told no sports for 2mo's. a test showed that it was an old ebv infection, but not active.
Avatar f tn It is possible to have a severe case of strep like you are describing. I would stay as far away as possible from this person until it is resolved.
Avatar f tn I had a history of Strep Throat - caught Scarlet Fever, which moved into RF. Does your daughter have a tendency to get Strep? If so, it's important to catch it and treat it with antibiotics immediately. From the time I was diagnosed with RF, I had monthly Penecillin injections for many years. It kept me from getting strep again and turning into something worse. Keep doing the penecillin. Hope this helps . . .
1798872 tn?1346164585 No, but check both scarlet fever and rheumatic fever on wiki. The immune response initiated by scarlet fever can lead to rheumatic fever. Said immune response destroyed my mother's heart valves because cartilage and the bacteria's cell wall are somewhat similar.
