Avatar n tn the disease usually comes along a couple of weeks after someone has popped up with a stubborn strep infection like strep throat or scarlet fever (which is almost unheard of these days w. the scarlet fever). The parts of your body that can be effect is your heart, brain, joints of your body mimicking rheumatoid arthritis and believe it or not your skin. It is considered to be an inflamatory disease in other words causing any of these parts of your body or a portion of them to swell up.
Avatar f tn Hi Odette72, If you were never treated for Scarlet fever you can get long term complications from it like Rheumatic fever or kidney problems. Also, fever, pneumonia, throat abscesses, ear infections and skin infections. Most people don't get the complications but it can happen and that is why they treat this with antibiotics early on. Maybe you can see an infectious disease doctor. Do you have any problems with your kidneys or heart? If not that hopefully you will be okay.

Avatar f tn ASO is an antibody which is generated in response to infection by Group A streptococci. Diseases which cause high ASO titer are rheumatic fever, scarlet fever, erysipelas, acute post streptococcal glomerulonephritis. In scarlet fever there is fever, abdominal pain, sore throat but there is a classical sandpapery feel rash which helps in its diagnosis. Rheumatic fever is characterized by appearance of a rash, skin nodules, joint pains, fever, heart problem, and involuntary movements .
Avatar f tn My 15 year old daughter has been diagnosed with rheumatic fever and rhematic heart disease affecting the mitral valve. My concern is that she didn't seem to have any of the symptoms of rheumatic fever except for migrating swollen joints.
Avatar m tn But, Strep Group A can cause a variety of invasive types of illnessness secondary to the original strep throat. these are rheumatic fever, scarlet fever, endocarditis, glomerulonephritis. They need to determine if he got any of these complications (which are rare) .By doing more tests. Did they ever culture Group A strep from his throat? It takes a few months for the ASO titer to go down and also for the lymph nodes to go down.
Avatar n tn Hello, You have not mentioned your daughter’s age. If your daughter is a child then the possibility of rocky mountain spotted fever, Kawasaki disease and scarlet fever are there. Rash in all these involves the palms and soles and is a red, shiny rash. Investigations and blood tests are needed to confirm the diagnosis. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided.
Avatar m tn My son got his first strep infection at 9years old almost 10. It came on suddenly w/in hours. He wasn't feeling good so I kept him home, He took a nap and woke up w/ a rash everywhere except for his neck and face and a 102.5 fever. When he tried to get up his knee hurt tremendously and he couldn't walk. Dr. tested him for strep and decided it was Scarlet fever, possibly Rheumatic fever. With his heart murmur we have been going through those procedures as well.
Avatar n tn Does anybody know if scarlet fever scars or causes loss of pigmentation? recently getting over, but skin has not healed while some parts look white and some are still red?? And would sunbathing help to dry out or just make scarring worse?
Avatar m tn My doctor sent me for a round of tests and the conclusion was that I had rheumatic fever. The blood tests showed inflammation and presence of strep bacteria. (C reactive protein=12, Antistreptolysin=400) I was given Piroxicam to deal with the inflammation and a round of antibiotics. (I don't remember offhand what the first antibiotics were, but they were oral.) I went back in after a month or so to have the tests redone.
Avatar f tn I am 34 years old and my doctor diagnosed me with Rheumatic Fever 5 months ago with my ASO titer at 253. He then asked me to meet a couple of specialist and meanwhile started giving me penicillin injections. My echo, ecg, and other tests were fine, so the specialist told me that I do not need to take any more penicillin injections, but my family doctor says one has to take precautionary medicines for atleast 5 years.
Avatar m tn Start your research there, then be sure to also look into rheumatic fever - which is an after effect of the the strep bacteria that causes scarlet fever and involves various inflammatory and auto-immune conditions. It's sort of like having an allergic reaction to an infection. The body then attacks its own organs as if they were the infection - cross reactivity of antibodies.
1012558 tn?1250889422 A special serologic test, known as anti-streptolysin O, that measures the quantity of antibody to a component of streptococcal bacteria. A useful diagnostic test for scarlet fever, rheumatic fever and other streptococcal diseases. American spelling: ASO titer If the ASO titer is normal then you have to consider other options. Take care!
Avatar f tn It is possible to have a severe case of strep like you are describing. I would stay as far away as possible from this person until it is resolved.
Avatar n tn I am very worried for him, and I know that the doctors are doing all the right tests for him, MRI-more blood work. Also does anyone know if scarlet fever has any type of relationship with these tests? My son had scarlet fever 3 times. Thank you for your help.
Avatar m tn Strep throat should be diagnosed as quickly as possible because of the serious complications that can develop if left untreated. These include rheumatic fever, which can damage the heart, and acute nephritis, which can damage the kidneys; both can be fatal. The onset of strep throat is characterised by sudden high fever and a severe sore throat. The bacterium responsible for scarlet fever, a strep-related illness, can also cause pharyngitis.
Avatar f tn scarlet fever is rare, but i had it when i was 11.i had the same type of fever...
Avatar n tn m going by the 3 main reasons his ASOT might be high. Rheumatic fever, strep throat and Scarlet fever, which would be rare. I would also ask for his ASOT test to be repeated because just every once in awhile you can get a false positive.
