Avatar n tn Within a few days, the redness fades and a finely textured rash, sometimes referred to as a sandpaper rash, develops. The rash is caused by toxins produced by the streptococcal bacteria. The rash and skin discoloration usually last for about three to seven days, at which time there may be peeling of skin around the fingertips and toes and in the groin area. ref:http://www.medem.com/search/article_display.cfm?path=n:&mstr=/ZZZWSJ2K1AC.
Avatar m tn The term Scarlatina may be used interchangeably with Scarlet Fever, though it is commonly used to indicate the less acute form of Scarlet Fever that is often seen since the beginning of the twentieth century.
Avatar n tn The rash of scarlet fever is usually associated with headache and a fever .The rash has a rough feel to it and may be reddish over the arms and legs. However ,in your case the rash does not appear like this based on the images. A superimposed viral infection is your physician's primary differential. Continue to obeserve the rash and note for any scaling of the skin or development of enlarged lymph nodes especially over the neck. Take lots of fluids and eat well.
Avatar n tn A rash and a fever could be scarlet fever. How high is the temp?
Avatar f tn I've got a rash. Started on my arms, now all over my body. Getting worse not better. Went to the docs she said scarlet fever but I don't have any other symptoms other than the rash. She put me on anti biotics but nothing is getting better after 2 days of taking them, and I've had the rash for 6 days now. My groin lymph nodes are swollen. I have a blocked ear and doc also said my throat is inflamed. Rash is just lots of little bumps. Some in clusters. Sometimes pink.
Avatar f tn As far as I know it is bacterial... the bacterial illness, scarlet fever, causes a distinctive pink-red rash, which occurs when the bacteria release toxins. Scarlet fever is extremely contagious - people can catch it by breathing in the bacteria in airborne droplets that come from an infected individual's sneezes or coughs. Infection may also occur as a result of touching the skin of an infected person, or touching surfaces or objects that the infected person has touched.
Avatar n tn Other possibilities needed to be ruled out are viral exanthem, Mycoplasma pneumoniae - serological test and chest radiography is important to rule out and should be treated with appropriate antibiotic, Rocky Mountain spotted fever (it is tick borne disease and needs serological test for diagnosis), infectious mononucleosis, scarlet fever; as a result of streptococcal tonsillopharyngitis, Kawasaki disease, and dengue. Hence, you need to undergo serological tests for few common causes.
Avatar m tn looking for advise, my son is 9+yrs and has had a stiff neck since oct/nov last year. suddenly 2mo's ago he got really swollen glands with sore throat and bad chest infection with wheezing asthma, followed by high fever ard 5days later. it affected his liver too for e next 2months_swollen and palpable, with upset stomach and pain below the ribs. the doc suspected EBV, so he was told no sports for 2mo's. a test showed that it was an old ebv infection, but not active.
Avatar n tn Hi, How old is your child? There are differentials for a rash in children who present with fever. At this point, given your child's age and the presentation of the rash, scarlet fever and hand, foot and mouth disease are differentials. As for scarlet fever, the rash usually develops a day or two after the onset of fever. Prior to his your child complains of pain in swallowing, weakness or easy fatigability, decrease in appetite and for some nausea and vomiting.
Avatar n tn Sorry, hit enter too fast. Anyway I don't think it can be either scarlet fever or Fifth disease because of the rash and fever. I can see Fifth disease to still be possible, because it may act differently in adults than kids. But I don't think it could be scarlet fever at all. I mean it usually comes it a facial rash yes, but also a high fever, strawberry tongue, and then a full on rash. Also you feel pretty freaking miserable if you got it.
Avatar f tn My son had high fever with rash on his hands arms, back and chest. We took him to the doctor and he diagnosed Scarlet fever. He priscribed Amoxicillin for 10 days. He started taking it and 3rd day his fever was gone, rash was gone. I sent him to day care for one day as I had to go to office and he came back with minor fever again. We thought his antibiotics is still not finished may be he will be fine. Next morning his legs badly hurt. Then I notice he was starting pink eye.
Avatar f tn Hello there, I'm a 20 year old female wondering if it's possible that I am experiencing symptoms of acute HIV. Here's the background: Possible exposures: sex with man (status unknown), with condom, just over a month ago. Almost two weeks ago, oral sex (giving and receiving) with a different man (status unknown), ejaculated in my mouth both times.
Avatar n tn I am asking whether I could get this from my partner they show no signs at all but in the last week their hands have started to peel in exactly the same way mine are following the scarlet fever rash. I am worried that this may not be scarlet fever but something more, is there any std that comes across this way. My Doctor has said that is highly unlikely I was infected from my partner following their treatment or that I was reinfected from them following my antibiotics course.
Avatar f tn I wanted to add to this because my son recently experienced the same thing. He had scarlet fever, which basically comes with strep throat for some people. It started just like that, I noticed tiny red dots all over his body. We got medicine for his strep and then just gave him oatmeal baths and used non scented lotion. It got really bad and the entire top layer of his skin ended up peeling off. It was not fun. Just a suggestion, hope I could help.
Avatar m tn (only strep infection). Or even Scarlet fever with no rash? Also, when I had Strep I had the tendency to self-induce vomit by using my ring and middle fingers, could that generalized the strep infection towards my fingers which still lasts until now?
Avatar f tn it could be due to the fever gave her a heat rash. the rash is in all the heat pertained ares. could be heat rash. her body fighting against the fever. ive had the heat rash before but they werent rough to the touch.
Avatar f tn The rash and fever (intermittent ) may linger for 2-3 weeks. Night time is usually worse, because cortisol levels in the body are the lowest at that time. I don't think the used washer has to do with it. Just press on the rash (scarlet fever) with a flat object like a butter knife. It should temporary turn white. To prevent re-infection, contamination and spreading of SF follow some simple rules: Wash your hands and face frequently. Change bed sheets daily. Launder clothing you wear/use.
Avatar n tn There is one disease that is described as sandpaper-like texture and that is SCARLET FEVER due to Group A Streptococci. We just saw a child with sandpaper-like texture had no symptoms but a few days later had a sore throat and then developed Strep. Take your child to a Peds Doctor and have the throat cultured. Let us know if you need any further information. Post us about what your doctor advises. Regards.
Avatar f tn she has a very, very bad sore throat, extreme headache and neck ache, dizziness, nausea, a rash covers almost her whole body. The worst symptom is 2 golf ball sized lumps at the point where her neck and spine meet. She had one of these lumps about a month ago on the front right side of her neck. She said it just went away. When they took the throat culture, it came back the next day. Now, she has this.
Avatar n tn If your daughter is a child then the possibility of rocky mountain spotted fever, Kawasaki disease and scarlet fever are there. Rash in all these involves the palms and soles and is a red, shiny rash. Investigations and blood tests are needed to confirm the diagnosis. It is very difficult to precisely confirm a diagnosis without examination and investigations and the answer is based on the medical information provided. For exact diagnosis, you are requested to consult your dermatologist.
Avatar n tn It is possible that you got scarlet fever but usually the antibiotics take care of the rash that you get with it. The rash usually starts on the chest, neck and armpits then spreads to other parts of the body. It is due to a toxin the strep produces. But it usually starts sooner than yours did. So, if it isn't scarlet fever, then it could be an allergy to the antibiotic perhaps that took some time for your immune system to trigger it.
1798872 tn?1346164585 No, but check both scarlet fever and rheumatic fever on wiki. The immune response initiated by scarlet fever can lead to rheumatic fever. Said immune response destroyed my mother's heart valves because cartilage and the bacteria's cell wall are somewhat similar.
Avatar n tn calamine lotion, baking soda baths, Epsom salts baths nothing would work for very long...daughter thought Maybe it was scarlet fever...went to a doc in the box ...gave me a 3 day burst of prednisone and some topical cream....went away...my doc said I had adrenal fatigue. possible fungus or parasite...may have breathed in some mold from the barn???caffeine, acidic foods seem to bring it on agaiin...something related to cortisol?
Avatar f tn Well, has she had a strep test? The rash could be scarlet fever from the strep infection. I had a strep infection without a sore throat, but with scarlet fever, and every joint in my body was involved. I could barely walk. I had no idea strep could cause these symptoms. You can also have a negative rapid strep test. What you really need is a culture and a blood draw to make sure. I got the run around for quite a while.
