Avatar m tn m going to try to find a better doctor or just go to the hospital but I figured why not ask the internet first. (Also, no one else I've been around seems to have gotten it.) I'm about to quit my job at the Preschool because I have been sick with different viral infections every week since I started on January 31st.
Avatar f tn scarlet fever is rare, but i had it when i was 11.i had the same type of fever...
1798872 tn?1346164585 No, but check both scarlet fever and rheumatic fever on wiki. The immune response initiated by scarlet fever can lead to rheumatic fever. Said immune response destroyed my mother's heart valves because cartilage and the bacteria's cell wall are somewhat similar.
Avatar m tn I also had sores all over my body one time from what I read online I would say I had Scarlet fever but the doctor said its exactly like scarlet fever but its not?
Avatar f tn But want to comment in case anyone else researching comes across this. The scarlet fever symptoms and the pink eye is indicative of possible Kawasaki syndrome. Ask your doctors about this possibility. Currently dealing with my sons battle with scarlet fever. Going into the second week...amoxicillin (10 days) seemed to work then on day 9 of treatment rash returned. We started azithromycin (3 days) thinking it developed resistance to penicillin. One dose of azithromycin made a HUGE difference.
606078 tn?1247264553 I was 5 years old when I was diagnosed with Scarlet Fever. I remember being so sick, nightmares, high fever etc. Could this be one of the culprits along with s many more that could have brought my Fibro/CFS to the surface.? I also had 3 major knee surgeries in 2007, I went through major trauma during all 3 surgeries. Thank you again.
Avatar n tn Sorry, hit enter too fast. Anyway I don't think it can be either scarlet fever or Fifth disease because of the rash and fever. I can see Fifth disease to still be possible, because it may act differently in adults than kids. But I don't think it could be scarlet fever at all. I mean it usually comes it a facial rash yes, but also a high fever, strawberry tongue, and then a full on rash. Also you feel pretty freaking miserable if you got it.
Avatar f tn As far as I know it is bacterial... the bacterial illness, scarlet fever, causes a distinctive pink-red rash, which occurs when the bacteria release toxins. Scarlet fever is extremely contagious - people can catch it by breathing in the bacteria in airborne droplets that come from an infected individual's sneezes or coughs. Infection may also occur as a result of touching the skin of an infected person, or touching surfaces or objects that the infected person has touched.
Avatar f tn But around Christmas, I developed leg pain whenever I turned my leg and was diagnosed with a sciatic nerve problem, but the prescribed physical therapy caused severe muscle cramping and caused me to almost not be able to walk. Because of this, the therapy was discontinued by the doctor and ordered an MRI of my lumbar spine, which appeared to be normal for my age. Since the therapy, I have had developed difficulty climbing stairs.
Avatar n tn My guess is scarlet fever. I believe it's treated with antibiotics. I'd call the DR or nurse to see what they think.
Avatar m tn looking for advise, my son is 9+yrs and has had a stiff neck since oct/nov last year. suddenly 2mo's ago he got really swollen glands with sore throat and bad chest infection with wheezing asthma, followed by high fever ard 5days later. it affected his liver too for e next 2months_swollen and palpable, with upset stomach and pain below the ribs. the doc suspected EBV, so he was told no sports for 2mo's. a test showed that it was an old ebv infection, but not active.

Avatar n tn Hi, How old is your child? There are differentials for a rash in children who present with fever. At this point, given your child's age and the presentation of the rash, scarlet fever and hand, foot and mouth disease are differentials. As for scarlet fever, the rash usually develops a day or two after the onset of fever. Prior to his your child complains of pain in swallowing, weakness or easy fatigability, decrease in appetite and for some nausea and vomiting.
Avatar f tn There was a vaccine back in the day for scarlet fever, but it has since been removed from the market. Simple anti-biotics can treat it though.

Avatar m tn The term Scarlatina may be used interchangeably with Scarlet Fever, though it is commonly used to indicate the less acute form of Scarlet Fever that is often seen since the beginning of the twentieth century.

Avatar n tn Scarlet Fever is the just rash of the strep germ, especially of strep throat, though the infection can be other places. It is not really a separate disease than a strep infection. It was named at a time when they could see the rash, but didn't know much about bacteria. Strep infections can lead to Rheumatic Fever which is a disease of arthritis and heart damage. RF was far more common 50+ years ago. It all but disapeared, but is making a combeback as the strep germ evolves and mutates.
Avatar f tn The rash and fever (intermittent ) may linger for 2-3 weeks. Night time is usually worse, because cortisol levels in the body are the lowest at that time. I don't think the used washer has to do with it. Just press on the rash (scarlet fever) with a flat object like a butter knife. It should temporary turn white. To prevent re-infection, contamination and spreading of SF follow some simple rules: Wash your hands and face frequently. Change bed sheets daily. Launder clothing you wear/use.
Avatar f tn The important causes of rash are Rocky Mountain spotted fever, infectious mononucleosis, scarlet fever, Kawasaki disease and drug eruption. Depending upon the prevalence of above mentioned conditions in your area the commonest can be investigated for with specific treatment. If there is a sense of warmth and erythema on skin and needs to be differentiated from other conditions of rash.
Avatar f tn Hi, The lumps behind the head must be the lymph nodes enlarged secondary to the infection in the throat. If she has taken any medicines and the swellings are the same, please advise her to get an FNAC (Fine Needle Aspiration Cytology) done. She requires a thorough check up from her doctor. Any more doubts you are welcome.
Avatar n tn the disease usually comes along a couple of weeks after someone has popped up with a stubborn strep infection like strep throat or scarlet fever (which is almost unheard of these days w. the scarlet fever). The parts of your body that can be effect is your heart, brain, joints of your body mimicking rheumatoid arthritis and believe it or not your skin. It is considered to be an inflamatory disease in other words causing any of these parts of your body or a portion of them to swell up.
Avatar f tn Well, has she had a strep test? The rash could be scarlet fever from the strep infection. I had a strep infection without a sore throat, but with scarlet fever, and every joint in my body was involved. I could barely walk. I had no idea strep could cause these symptoms. You can also have a negative rapid strep test. What you really need is a culture and a blood draw to make sure. I got the run around for quite a while.
Avatar n tn The rash of scarlet fever is usually associated with headache and a fever .The rash has a rough feel to it and may be reddish over the arms and legs. However ,in your case the rash does not appear like this based on the images. A superimposed viral infection is your physician's primary differential. Continue to obeserve the rash and note for any scaling of the skin or development of enlarged lymph nodes especially over the neck. Take lots of fluids and eat well.
