Organic, or naturally occuring sodium, may be helpful by keeping table salt in solution, helping to eliminate it.

Avatar n tn If you think, you use a lot of salt, you may want to lower the salt intake. Less salt in the body, less water in the body. Almost anything you eat (fats, carbohydrates and proteins), may turn into a fat within the body. Being overweight will not heal fatty liver, no matter what you eat.

Avatar f tn I have now restored to 155 pounds, and feel like I continue to gain weight. I also have constant water retention. Is this normal to still be so bloated even once I'm restored and even past my initial weight? I'm not sure if the distension in my stomach is weight gain or bloating. Anyone experience something similar or know what could be going on? I have attached a picture of what my stomach looks like naturally (no pushing out). https://ibb.

I have just seen so many people ignore the early signs of heart failure until it was too late. I am passionate about advocating for people with heart failure, and those who are at it's door step. You can manage to live well with heart failure, but you can live SO much better if you avoid it. Denial works for some people.
Avatar m tn Water retention therapy, low salt diet and sleeping elevated with pillows helps. An anti acid with bi-carb (prescription) helps too. Salt is your enemy...that means soda, processed foods, red meat, tomato sauce, pizza, etc... So diligent diet and possibly water retention pills (diuretics) might help. See your doc and be specific.
959034 tn?1253671476 Florinef relies on a supply of sodium and water in your system in order to function. It causes retention of sodium and water, so the less there is to retain, the less it can do. That being said, we all start at different points with regard to sodium intake in our diets in the first place. The average American diet is already very high in sodium.
Avatar f tn Salt causes water retention temporarily. Salt can be bad for the heart in large doses, but usually it's association with weight gain is because a lot of unhealthy foods have high levels of salt in them.

Avatar n tn No excess sodium and improve your diet to reduce water retention. Your knees and other areas appear larger when you carry excess water. Cut out processed meat, table salt, salty snack foods, canned foods and most frozen dinners. Check food labels for sodium content many sauces, condiments and cheeses contain a significant amount of sodium. Drink at least eight glasses of water each day.
Avatar n tn I was of the opinion that decreasing salt was the way forward and that adding salt to the diet is the last thing you should be doing. Any thoughts?
Avatar n tn I did experience a little weight gain, but it was due to fluid retention. Lithium is a salt based drug. My advice would be not to use extra salt in your diet while you're on lithium, and try to drink water, herbal teas, or at a pinch black coffee rather thank milky or sugary drinks that will encourage weight gain. I did get thirsty a lot while on Lithium. On the insomnia front, I take a drug called Phenergan. It's an antihistimine.
