Salmeterol with fluticasone

Common Questions and Answers about Salmeterol with fluticasone

advair

Avatar m tn I take Advair, (Fluticasone propionate / Salmeterol) once a daily inhaled. My asthma is not controlled without Advair, but is stable with one dose daily. I would like to take Harmine alkaloids (Harmine, Harmaline), but I'm not sure if Salmeterol is safe to take with Harmine alkaloids as they are MAOI (reversible MAOI however) are they safe to combine? Thank you!
Avatar n tn Advair™ Diskus® (fluticasone propionate and salmeterol) Inhalation Powder contains 2 medicines. The inhaled steroid Flovent® (fluticasone propionate) has a half life of around 5 hours, so it would be totally out of your system in a few days. The inhaled long-acting bronchodilator Serevent® (salmeterol) has a similar half life, so it would be totally out of your system after 5 days. When steroid side effects occur, they may linger for weeks or even months after the medicine has been stopped.
Avatar n tn The Advair® HFA (fluticasone propionate and salmeterol) Inhalation Aerosol may raise your saturation, to a degree that will make oxygen use unnecessary. Your current dose of Advair® HFA (fluticasone propionate and salmeterol) Inhalation Aerosol is low and, at this level, highly unlikely to be associated with any clinically significant side effects. Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a progressive disease that will slowly worsen.
Avatar n tn While it is possible that the Advair® HFA (fluticasone propionate and salmeterol) could have had something to do with your developing shingles, it is very unlikely. The risk of death you mention is a very, very small risk. Advair® HFA (fluticasone propionate and salmeterol) is generally well tolerated by most people with asthma but more than a few side effects have been reported, especially with the dose that contains the highest amount of fluticasone.
Avatar f tn However, it has been suggested by some studies that inhaled steroids, particularly when used in high doses such as with Advair™ Diskus® (fluticasone propionate and salmeterol) Inhalation Powder 500/50, may cause steroid side effects and, at most, contribute in an additive way to post-menopausal and other types of osteoporosis.
Avatar n tn However using a long-term control medicine, like Advair, Diskus (fluticasone/salmeterol), should help clear it away quicker. Sometimes this test is repeated after he has used a rescue inhaler like albuterol. When there is a 20% increase the test is positive for asthma. Advair Diskus (fluticasone/salmeterol) and albuterol as needed are recommended for the treatment for asthma.
Avatar m tn I take Spiriva Respimat (tiotropium bromide) 2.5 mcg/actuation, and Wixela (fluticasone propionate salmeterol inhalation powder) for my COPD. Is there a sequence I should be taking these meds in? Is there a time frame I should use between the two meds?
Avatar f tn Been diagnosed with non allergic rhinitis, feline dander, housedust etc allergies. Also diagnosed with excercise induced asthma in the 90's. About a month ago wheezing. Doctor has me on 50mcg fluticasone/salmeterol powder am and pm,plus albuterol every 4 hrs. I haven't been using rescue every 4 hrs. When I talk I start coughing and choking and have to spit. What is going on with treatment?
Avatar f tn To my knowledge Advair® (fluticasone propionate and salmeterol) has not been linked to strokes. Have you heard anything about this in the lay press?
Avatar n tn You and he/she will have to resort to other preparations, to include a different inhaled steroid, such as Flovent® HFA Inhalation Aerosol (fluticasone propionate), either alone or in combination with a long-acting bronchodilator, like Serevent® Inhalation Aerosol (salmeterol xinafoate) or Foradil® Aerolizer™ (formoterol fumarate inhalation powder), such a combination being either Advair® HFA (fluticasone propionate and salmeterol) Inhalation Aerosol or Symbicort® (budesonide/formoterol fumarat
Avatar m tn Symbicort contains budesonide and formoterol fumarate dihydrate and Advair contains fluticasone and salmeterol. So while they do not have the same medications, the medication groups are the same. So id Advair was helping you, Symbicort should also help you. Please discuss with your doctor. Take care! The medical advice given should not be considered a substitute for medical care provided by a doctor who can examine you.
Avatar m tn This inflammation is of a different type than the inflammation seen with asthma, yet you still might benefit from the use of medicines used to treat asthma such as a long-acting bronchodilator, such as, Serevent® Inhalation Aerosol (salmeterol xinafoate) along with an inhaled steroid, such as Flovent® Inhalation Aerosol (fluticasone propionate), the combination of the 2 is available as Advair® HFA (fluticasone propionate and salmeterol) Inhalation Aerosol.
Avatar m tn Last year I was hospitalized with Stevens Johnsons Syndrome(SJS), which left me with chronic dry eye and chronic bronchitis although I did not experience any obvious respiratory symptoms. Prior to that I was absolutely healthy and played sports and worked out fairly regularly. After a few months recovering from this, when I started strenuous exercises i.e. running, sprinting, I felt my chest tightening up.
1425157 tn?1311651679 you have to weigh out the benefits and what is more acute and has to be dealt with and not getting enough air to me take priority over an occasional fast heart however you want to make sure that the doc has okayed you to take an aspirin if you are going thru this to ward off the threat of clotting....good luck...in know i after getting the okay from the doc threw my inhalers away....just don't do it until the doc tells you to or gives you something else in its place.....
Avatar n tn inhaler a day (50 mcg salmeterol, 250 mcg fluticasone). Also I take 500 mg Vitamin C supplements every morning. Those are the only meds I take routinely.

746512 tn?1388807580 I'm having a lot of trouble lately with my asthma control now that I've started classes again. I seem to be ultra sensitive now (more than I was last year on campus) of cigarette smoke. I have to walk outside to get to some of classes and if I pass more than one person smoking or get too many wifts in my face, my chest really tightens up and I'm forced to use my rescue inhaler. The problem is this has been an almost daily occurence and I hate taking ventolin that regularly.
757137 tn?1347196453 One problem with advair is that the warning is in regards to salmeterol and not necessarily the combination inhaler itself. The way the study was done to test the safety and effectiveness of the drugs is by adding salmeterol or the combination to the present treatment the asthmatic was on. Thus some of the people were using ONLY salmeterol and ventolin. Because of this study we found out that there is a danger from only using long-acting bronchodialators.
Avatar m tn I noticed that there is a small patch on my left chin, where beard is scanty. It is not completely gone but the hair is scanty and the patch is obvious. I went to my dermatologist and he told me it is Alopecia Areata, though it could be in "initial stages" and it is "too hard to say anything". He told me to apply fluticasone cream twice a day, for a month. And if the hair doesn't grow back, he will give me steroid injections. Should I get those injections?
Avatar n tn As fluticasone propionate causes irritation of the nasal mucus membranes. Other adverse events that occurr with fluticasone propionate (with uncertain relationship to treatment) include: blood in nasal mucus, runny nose, flu-like symptoms, aches and pains, and dizziness. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
Avatar m tn It has been reported that high dose ICS is associated with the development of pulmonary TB in persons with COPD* For this reason, it has been recommended that every patient with COPD should undergo chest radiography, sputum acid-fast smear, and mycobacterial culture before receiving, as well as regularly during, HD ICS therapy. It is suspected, but not proven that this risk would also occur in persons, with a history of TB, who do not have COPD.
Avatar n tn Salmeterol is an LABA medication which is usually, but not always, combined with an inhaled steroid. Advair contains both salmeterol and a steroid.
Avatar n tn Thank you very much!
Avatar f tn Asmanex® Twisthaler® 220 mcg (mometasone furoate inhalation powder) is an effective inhaled steroid. Using it with the Advair® HFA (fluticasone propionate and salmeterol) Inhalation Aerosol is the equivalent of at least doubling your inhaled steroid, so as to better maintain the state of reduced inflammation, accomplished with the Medrol® (methylprednisolone).
