Common Questions and Answers about Safety in office environment

safety

Avatar n tn I work in an office environment that was created for us in the basement of a lovely hotel. The space is nice and when I started I had a nice office with a window. I often work down here by myself, but by having a window, allowing natural sunlight to come in and fresh air, it helped a lot. I could hear the church bells ring across the streets, the birds, and just the outside world.
Avatar f tn I'm sorry to say that I'm not exactly sure what your question is. Are you asking about the "speed" of the actual injection or the viability of HIV inside the barrel of a syringe? If it is the former, it would not matter how quickly......or slowly, the plunger was depressed. If your question was the latter, there are a number of variables and no ONE absolute answer.
Avatar m tn There are two basic reasons why HIV is not transmitted in the environment. First, assuming HIV exists in the environment, the amount of virus that could have contact with susceptible cells would almost certainly be too low fro transmission to occur. Second and equally important, is that living HIV almost never exists in the environment -- and that includes the environment of a doctor's office, clinic, operating room, etc.
Avatar f tn Hi, I'm 7Weeks along, and I'm a registered nurse in home care. A client I see often has 6 dogs, all of different breeds a cat, and a bunch of birds. The house is unclean. There is often dog feces and urine on the floor and the birds are allowed to fly around and poop where they please. My concern is that being in this house may be unsafe for me and my child. Any thoughts?
Avatar m tn Working in an anatomical pathology lab, there should be extreme safety protocols in place for employees and as a tech, you should be fully aware of them and follow them religiously. You mentioned taking off your mask but said nothing about your gloves. Please tell me you wear gloves You had NO RISK for HIV. I strongly recommend you discuss safety issues with your employer.
317217 tn?1456286778 It sounds like she was nursing in a surgery room while they were performing surgery. If that is the case or was in a sterile environment I can understand, as breastmilk actually can have HIV etc in it. I know that is why they tell you that there is a risk when you buy a used breast pump. they said that you must buy all new accessories and not share your pumps. Just a thought, but like I said I don't know that I am seeing all the info!
Avatar f tn I cant say for certain, but the folks in cleveland seem to have made a connection between patient safety and who they retain to work there. Not sure this is the case for you, at least locally. So get some help.
480448 tn?1426948538 Like SM, I couldn't begin to read the posted letter, because I'm old and my eyes don't work the way they used to, in spite of bifocals........ lol I retired from the School District in my county, a little over a year ago. Our district has 70+ facilities throughout the county and because I worked in the environmental department, I was from campus to campus, every day. All of the schools had "armed guards" in the form of resource officers.
Avatar f tn OMG....Me either!....Ok so is the government going to fix it? Oh I forgot. If the President tries, he'll get opposition on where the money is going to come from and it'll get SQUASHED in the house. So maybe these reactors will just stay "in need of better safety" and we can hope and pray that nothing makes them explode. Forget the people that are in Arms way.........
Avatar m tn There is no way you can escape the fumes and the overspray in the shop when you are in full production, approximately around 8 painters applying paint. While Iam working in my office which is around 50% of the time the fumes get so heavy that it shortens my breath and makes me very sick. I went to my pulmonologist and he had me take a CT scan with contrast. The results are as follows: Both lungs demonstrate diffuse emphysematous changes with hyperlucency.

Avatar f tn I would say wait a little and say something after you are about to show. UNLESSyou are in a work environment where people need to know for yours and baby's safety. For example, I am pregnant with me 2nd and I work in a pharmacy as a technician. My coworkers need to know because there are some drugs I can't handle for baby's safety. I'm only 8 weeks and they knew about 3 weeks ago. Just to take precautions!
Avatar m tn MR: What are some of the ways in which safety risks were minimized in drug evaluation and review? RK: Well, first of all I think most people would be shocked at how malleable safety data is. Human studies are usually too short and the number of subjects in them too small to adequately characterize the most dangerous risks. That's why even a single case has to be taken seriously.
Avatar m tn Now this is all fine but what scared me is that he pulled out one scalpel from his toolbox that was sitting in his office and wiped the blade off with a regular gauze. He then said this is to big so he grab another different scalpel out of his box and replaced that blade. My issue now is he is using the same gauze that he wiped the first scalpel off with that he did not change and is wiping the new instrument off with that as well.

Avatar f tn ” BP’s Deepwater Horizon plans were also thought to pose minimal risk to the environment. In its exploration plan for the rig, submitted to MMS years ago, BP said “no significant adverse impacts are expected” to the environment and stated that a spill was an “unlikely event.” In the three weeks after the rig exploded, MMS gave BP a categorical exclusion for a plan to drill “at a depth of more than 4,000 feet,” according to McClatchy. Another company, Anadarko Petroleum Corp.
Avatar m tn I normally suffer from terrible allergies. Yesterday, I went to wait for a specialist's appointment in an office building attached to the local hospital for about two hours. During that time, for the first time in years, my allergies totally left me. So did my asthma and headache symptoms. I really felt amazing. As soon as I left, they came back. Out of interest, I went back to the same building today for a couple of hours - and the same thing happened!

427258 tn?1266445242 If you have a temperature it's really important that you take Tylenol to get it down for the baby's safety. But as with everything, ALWAYS consult your doc via phone (or, if your doc's office is as busy as mine, a nurse that works at his/her office will do) before taking something. I had a fever around 18 weeks and took Tylenol to reduce the fever - worked like a charm - and Sudafed because I literally could NOT breathe, I was miserable. I took the lowest dose.
5509293 tn?1428531475 The pupils constrict (get smaller) with bright light and dilate (enlarge) to let in more light, with photography the size of the pupil is generally to do with amount of light in the environment the person is in, and often photo's will catch enlarged pupils and the reflected redness because the pupil was larger when the photo was taken.
1035252 tn?1427227833 Smoke in the infant’s environment after birth has emerged as a separate risk factor in a few studies, although separating this variable from maternal smoking before birth is problematic. Avoiding an infant’s exposure to second- hand smoke is advisable for numerous reasons in addition to SIDS risk. 5. A separate but proximate sleeping environment is recommended :The risk of SIDS has been shown to be reduced when the infant sleeps in the same room as the mother.
Avatar m tn This is because the virus dies very quickly on exposure to the environment. Thus if HIV was in the blood, it would have been dead by the time you wipe your eye. 3. If there was HIV mixed with hydrogen peroxide, the hydrogen peroxide would have killed it. 4. There has never been a case of HIV resulting from the sort of hand to eye contact that you describe. Please do not worry, there is no reason. There is no need for testing. I hope my comment is helpful.
