Avatar f tn I’m sure if you have questions about their procedures they would be happy to answer them and show you their equipment used to sanitize their dental tools.
Avatar n tn //www.hcvadvocate.org/hepatitis/factsheets_pdf/personal%20care.pdf _______________________________ Potentially, Hepatitis C could be spread through equipment used by hairdressers and barbers. Scissors, razors and clippers can cut, nick or graze the skin, enough to draw blood. If equipment is unsterilised between customers, there is a very small chance that infected blood from razors or clippers could enter the bloodstream of another person.
Avatar f tn These viruses do not survive very long on non-sterilised equipment. Therefore there would be no significant risk in this instance. However in the case of Hepatitis C, this would be very different as the virus is capable to survive longer periods of time on equipment. Using alcohol swabs would not prevent infection, and the only way to prevent infection woudl be by properly sterilising all the equipment used or by using disposable tools.
Avatar n tn All he did was polish my teeth and when i got home my gums were sensitive so they were bleeding a little bit which caused me to get worried and wonder if the equipment he used was clean or not! Usually they open a new packet of metal tools but yesterday i forgot to pay attention and check whether he opened them right before he put them in my mouth. Lets suppose he used the previous patients tools on my mouth, is there any chance of hiv infection from that?
Avatar m tn i have read an article stating how some people may have been exposed to the hiv virus (and hepatitis) because the hospital didnt use the proper sterilization on colonoscopy equipment. and another similar article that stated those that underwent ear, nose, and throat treatments were exposed too. how likely is someone to catch the hiv virus from a situation like this?
Avatar m tn In some parts of the world little effort or even no effort is taken to sterilize dental equipment. Yes it's possible to get Hepatitis C from dental tools that haven't been sterilized. Take the time and ask the dentist how the tools are sterilized. Go to a dentist you know practices sterilizing all the dental tools between patients.
Avatar m tn The article you reference makes no mention of HIV - that is because HIV cannot be transmitted that way. If you have other questions about the safety of using dental equipment, we suggest visiting the Dental Health forum, as this forum is HIV specific.
Avatar m tn I'm so sorry you have this problem in Egypt. New treatment for Genotype 4 is or will shortly be available. I expect that many will begin treatment and be concerned about re-infection. Many will want to go to a dentist that practices Sterilization of all equipment in dental care. I'm sure it's warranted that you have your own personal tools for examination. You might ask your dentist what you should purchase.
Avatar m tn Tattoo artists/piercers are trained on safety measures regarding bloodborne pathogens and do not reuse needles and they sterilize equipment between all customers.
Avatar n tn Power-generating equipment, arc welding equipment and powerful magnets (as in medical devices, heavy equipment or motors) can inhibit pulse generators. Patients who work with or near such equipment should know that their pacemakers may not work properly in those conditions. Cellphonelphones available in the United States (less than 3 watts) don't seem to damage pulse generators or affect how the pacemaker works.
Avatar m tn — Thousands of veterans were at first shocked to learn they should get blood tests for HIV and hepatitis because three hospitals might have treated them with unsterile equipment. Now, just a couple of months after the Department of Veterans Affairs issued the dire warnings, veterans are growing frustrated by the lack of information from the tightlipped federal agency.
6501229 tn?1381870669 the other equipment like scissors and clippers were my personal tools that he used to cut my hair. I read in the Internet that HIV & HEPATITIS C might be transmitted through hair cutting tools. If this is the case, a COMB that hair dresser used to treat my hair can carry HIV or HEPATITIS C virus and can it be infectious??? I read that virus of HEP C can live 4 days outside the body in the environment.
Avatar n tn My question is, is it ok to be doing the heavy lifting, going up and down ladders all day. Power tools and all... ??

Avatar f tn She does NOT sterilize her equipment. When she is done with each person, she soaks them in alcohol. Is there anything to worry about? Or should I figure that if there is not fresh blood on the object, and it is in alcohol, that I cannot be infected with HIV or Hepatitis C? I need to know what the chances are. Thanks!
572651 tn?1530999357 If you saw my email inbox you might be surprised at some of the mail I receive. I have signed up on distribution lists for many medical sites, including Nursing Times from the UK. I received an announcement today about an upcoming convention in LONDON, that may be of interest to some of you. This convention/conference is September 29-30 and the registration is FREE. I wish I could go, but its a bit far to commute. Some of you who live in the UK may be interested, though.
Avatar m tn But like I said, doctors would never not use sterile equipment or a cover to make sure their equipment is safe for the next patient.
Avatar f tn I am so scared:) I was at a discount store and poked my hand with a safety pin that was taken apart, basically mangled. It looked like somebody had twisted it. It was on top of a clothing rack. It drew blood on me. The store had just opened and I am wondering if someone had purposely placed it there. Can I get hiv fro it and if not can you explain why? Thank you I am so scared!!!!
Avatar f tn And make sure that you go to a reputable location that properly cleans and disinfects their equipment so you don't get an infection.
Avatar f tn Risks for HIV are: 1) Having unprotected penetrative anal or vaginal sex, OR 2) Sharing IV drug equipment with other IV drug users. Exposure through dental/medical settings is unheard of, and has been for many years. You didn't have a risk and there is no reason to test.
6881121 tn?1392830788 Thanks for the link! They mention the drug I'm on. http://mymsaa.org/publications/msresearch-update-2014/daclizumab/ My nurse told me everyone's off the DECIDE trial and onto EXTEND (the extension, open-label, post Phase III portion of the trial) this month, so their information is a little out of date ("The safety profile of this medication will be closely followed in the ongoing Phase III trial.") There is no on-going Phase III of the trial.
Avatar f tn Okay I went back and got a manicure at the same place to watch how they clean their manicure tools that they nipped me with, but as I observed I had my own tools! I Saw that they rinsed the tools off with water and then put it in uv light box. However, they Didn't put it in the barbicide first like they're supposed to. Does that change your mind at all about the danger for me getting a manicure there last week?
Avatar m tn Aside from those mentioned, theft detector gates, metal detector gates at airports and hand held security wands, heavy-duty electrical powered equipment such as arc welders, running car engine, and certain electrically powered surgical tools can also cause disturbances with pacemakers. Patients should get a permission from their doctors prior to driving a car or operating equipment which may fall into the above category.
