Avatar m tn i have read an article stating how some people may have been exposed to the hiv virus (and hepatitis) because the hospital didnt use the proper sterilization on colonoscopy equipment. and another similar article that stated those that underwent ear, nose, and throat treatments were exposed too. how likely is someone to catch the hiv virus from a situation like this?
Avatar f tn I made a topic earlier today, which can be found here: http://www.medhelp.org/posts/Anxiety/Based-on-the-description--what-does-this-sound-like/show/1185964 then I found this forum and thought maybe my problem fits here as well. Long story short, I thought that I had gotten HIV from enviromental surfaces (blood in public bathroom) years ago and I thought I was having symptoms of advanced HIV. I went and got tested in an HIV counselling cabinet (or whatever it's called).
Avatar m tn The article you reference makes no mention of HIV - that is because HIV cannot be transmitted that way. If you have other questions about the safety of using dental equipment, we suggest visiting the Dental Health forum, as this forum is HIV specific.
Avatar m tn Tattoo artists/piercers are trained on safety measures regarding bloodborne pathogens and do not reuse needles and they sterilize equipment between all customers.
148588 tn?1465778809 Before the mines collapsed, Chao had cut more than a hundred coal mine safety inspections.[27] According to the Christian Science Monitor, "Nearly half of the 208 safety citations levied in 2005 against the Sago coal mine where 12 men died this week were 'serious and substantial.
Avatar n tn Power-generating equipment, arc welding equipment and powerful magnets (as in medical devices, heavy equipment or motors) can inhibit pulse generators. Patients who work with or near such equipment should know that their pacemakers may not work properly in those conditions. Cellphonelphones available in the United States (less than 3 watts) don't seem to damage pulse generators or affect how the pacemaker works.
Avatar f tn well your machine has to be adjusted to a level that is right for you based on your sleep study! So given that you bought one already, what did they set it at? I would have waited as most likely now you will have to pay a fee for them to reset it, as you can't. Once it is set, that is all folks. My sleep studies determined that I wake up 33 times per hour, 18 being respiratory!
572651 tn?1530999357 If you saw my email inbox you might be surprised at some of the mail I receive. I have signed up on distribution lists for many medical sites, including Nursing Times from the UK. I received an announcement today about an upcoming convention in LONDON, that may be of interest to some of you. This convention/conference is September 29-30 and the registration is FREE. I wish I could go, but its a bit far to commute. Some of you who live in the UK may be interested, though.
Avatar f tn I am so scared:) I was at a discount store and poked my hand with a safety pin that was taken apart, basically mangled. It looked like somebody had twisted it. It was on top of a clothing rack. It drew blood on me. The store had just opened and I am wondering if someone had purposely placed it there. Can I get hiv fro it and if not can you explain why? Thank you I am so scared!!!!
Avatar f tn How important is it that a patient stay face down following vitrectomy to repair a macular hole? There is equipment available for rental or purchase to provide face down head support. Is it mandatory, highly recommended or just an option for comfort?
Avatar f tn The use of silicone oil or gas (C3F8 or SF6) needs to be decided on between you and your surgeon. According to the Silicone Study done by the NEI the outcomes for both gas tamponade and silicone oil tamponade provide similar success rates. Most surgeons that, I as a patient, have encountered use gas tamponading over silicone oil b/c it does not require additional surgery for removal. However, in some cases such as those patients with sleep apnea the use of a gas bubble would be contrindicated.
Avatar f tn I finally went and had an HIV test done at a HIV counselling/testing cabinet. The result came back negative. However, about 2,5 weeks later I got a fever without any other symptoms. The fever was the highest when it started (37.6 C) and it's ongoing for 10 days now and it's usually 37.1-37.3 C. My psychiatrist said that it's simply an obsessive thought.
475300 tn?1312423126 Since were talking about tattoos-I was a tattoo artist in the 1980s and early 90s.One way hepC is transmitted via tattoo is interesting. Even though everything (equipment ,etc.) has been medically sterilized in an autoclave, there's a place some inexperienced tattooists miss. First, I fill a small cup with ink, and then begin the tattoo. I dip the bloody needles into the ink, and back to your skin. No problem there. Now, I run low on ink and refill the cup.
Avatar m tn It sounds like your doctor uses the same sort of equipment that used to be routine (20+ years ago), i.e. a sterile bacteriological loop. These were the norm among many STD specialists before modern disposalble swabs becamse widely available. And my guess the scalpel blade was disposable, single-use. There is no reasonable possibility the doctor does not carefully sterilizes the loop (and scalpel, if not disposablet) between patients.
Avatar f tn Does anyone know the reason(s) for constantly trapped gas in the diaphragm area that also radiates to the back between shoulder blades? My husband was once told that he has gastritis. He has taken Nexium over the years. He also has taken Prilosec OTC which was recommended by his physician. But, now it seems that no matter what he does he continually has gas pain and discomfort.
Avatar m tn Third, almost all phlebotomy and injection equipment are now manufactured to be a ONE use only item, with safety features that actually render the equipment unable to be used a second time. If you cannot accept this, then get yourself some professional help.
Avatar m tn re going to be moving, and get this the closing is within a few days of the babies due date (august 13th) so the question is this. What (if anything) should we look for/keep in mind in the townhome in regards to baby safety.
Avatar f tn I have MANY symptoms that go on (see other posts) but one that really concerns me is that sometimes as I am going about whatever I am doing, I get a feeling like I am suddenly in slow motion. Like I have to force my body to keep doing what I'm doing - putting things in a filing cabinet, pressing the gas pedal in my car, pushing a cart down the aisle in the grocery store, etc. It only lasts about 2-5 seconds but is very strange and alarming. Sound familiar to anyone?
2168213 tn?1357062544 I'm 12wks now and our sex life has been great. But my husband wanted to spice it up and bought me dildo/vibrator. I haven't had that and never experienced it. Anyone use it? Is it safe for the baby? I definitely don't want to risk the safety of my baby with my sexual pleasure. My little one is precious!!!
Avatar n tn I understand that gas is commonly inserted to maintain pressure for healing, but that silicone oil can be an alternative. The face-down position for post-surgery recovery worries me because I have had front and back neck fusion and also worry about claustrophobia. What are the pros and cons of using the oil instead? From what I have read, the oil needs to be removed in a later surgery, and seems to prompt the development of cataracts. Is that correct?
