338416 tn?1420045702 s quite foot drop yet, but I certainly have to *think* about lifting my foot up. They make a foot brace that would hold my foot up, but it's plastic and clunky. I don't think I would have started running again if it wasn't for the weight. I get so frustrated, because I'm really trying to restrict my calories, and it doesn't do a bit of good. Working out on the trainer was exercise, but it just wasn't enough. I'm starting to wonder if I have a thyroid problem.
Avatar f tn The foot and ankle are made up of many small bones. In between these bones, like any other joint like your knee or hip, there are small pads of cartilage that cushion the space between them. Over time, these pads can wear away (osteoarthritis), and when the bones grind together it causes pain. I'm not saying this is what's happening, but it's one possible cause.
Avatar f tn I have done much research and have an appointment with the guy who did my origiinal brace ... looking into getting a new brace ...I have had only discomfort with my foot/leg and the drop -- all of a sudden on August 14th, I started getting nerve pain -- hopefully, my nerve is finally waking up! I found a new doctor and went to him -- he gave me neurotin and the script for a new brace ...my appointment isn't for a month but -- I've been waiting 5 years; so a month isn't that long.
Avatar m tn And I have to say that even after this long I can still feel it, especially while I am running. During sport I have to wear a brace constantly and it is still not 100%. Have you been to doctor? They will tell you if you have torn ligaments.
Avatar f tn He did both my hips-they turned out great, but the 2nd surgery I woke up with the dreaded dead foot. Does anyone here have to wear a night brace? My foot is inverting and the tendons are tightening up. They say I may have to have surgery to correct this. I had a boot they gave me in the hospital but it is cumbersome. They want me to wear an even heavier one with a tension thing on it to pull my foot back in to a more natural position. Better than surgery I suppose.
Avatar f tn so, i've been a little under 2 months now and it was my good leg. my right leg's knee is giving me fits even before the foot drop. so far, i've had the eeg test which determined there's a problem in my leg. just don't know why and hoping the mri will show something. in another couple weeks, i'll get my brace. ortho doesn't seem to have a lot of hope because they ordered the high-dollar pivoting brace.
Avatar f tn I have foot drop and have two types of braces for it. One if a bulky brace that was casted to my foot, and the other is a "leaf up" brace. I had a TERRIBLE time finding shoes to accomodate either shoe. Here is what I've discovered: the shoe MUST have a removable insole. This is to give the shoe "depth" to have room for the brace. Also, the shoe must have a high back as the shoe actually works in conjunction with the brace.
645800 tn?1466860955 I would love to figure out how they've set up both for you. I have to wear a knee brace on my weak leg 24/7 -- the foot drop assist afos that were approved by my insurance wouldn't work with the knee brace. The one that does work with knee brace? Insurance has denied it twice now. They won't cover it. I'm incredibly frustrated and not sure what to do next. What sort of afos are you using? I am so glad that the set up is working for you though!!! Must feel pretty good!
Avatar f tn I would recommend wearing a hinged brace with an orthotic foot plate (eg the DonJoy Velocity ankle brace). He may benefit wearing this brace on the injured foot and an orthotic in the alternate foot.
293157 tn?1285873439 I got a brace for my right foot due to the same problems you are talking about just a few months ago. I really does help a lot. I can almost walk normally again ( though the difference in leg lengths does make me limp a little bit ). Since getting my brace I have not fallen or tripped over a shadow once.
Avatar f tn Hi jeffbok, Gonna have to look into getting a night brace i guess, have just received my foot up brace and am quite pleased with it although can only use it in shoes with laces, it makes me feel like i`m nearly walking normally although my ankle and foot is very weak so after a while i start to walk like i`ve got a limp. I also bought the foot up shoeless to wear around the house and although its not as comfortable as the other i haven`t fallen over my toes yet.
Avatar m tn It took me several years to get my foot brace because my foot drop only occurred visibly when I was tired. I finally got the foot brace when I finally saw my neuro when it was bad and he saw that my foot was turning in and had a bad foot drop.
486038 tn?1300063367 org/publications/msqr/2008/08/29/functional-electrical-stimulation-and-multiple-sclerosis-seperating-fact-from-fiction/ AFO stands for Ankle Foot Orthotic - It is typically a plastic brace molded to your lower leg/ankle and foot. You wear it inside a shoe and it keeps the foot in the best position to walk without it dragging on the ground. I wear one for my foot drop.
Avatar f tn And has twisted at least 3 times on yesterday. It usually twist during running. Or walking to fast..It hurts soo bad I have to take a long pause and I begin to limp walk for at least 6minutes. It feels like a pull, twist, or a sprung. "Is my bones weak?? Or is this a seriuos cause??
Avatar f tn I am 29 weeks & my baby has a club foot. I know it can be fixed. My friends little boy had 2 surgery & wore the shoe & brace on his foot day & night for a while, he is 7 months old now & it is 100% fixed now.
1337734 tn?1336234591 ( My factors and Physical therapist suggested that I try a soft ankle brace for foot drop. I have to admit I am wary to spend more money on things that don't work. My question: has anyone tried a soft ankle brace and what were your results?
1831849 tn?1383228392 I looked up Kyle's foot brace and it too is recommended only for shoes with laces or tops, but not for slip on shoes, darn and double darn. will keep looking but the price is right!
1787893 tn?1315066267 I was diagnosed with relapsing-remitting RRMS when I was 18 years old, 35 years ago, with symptoms occuring every 5-10 years. Symptoms from numbness to tingling lasting for two weeks, always right sided. Growing up in CA, and living in KS, MO, and TX as an adult, I've been very physically active and a runner, completing two marathons. I started taking AVONEX almost 4 years ago. 4 years ago, my right foot would become numb, with drop foot when running only a few miles.
Avatar f tn Also, you need to be wearing some sort of brace to keep your foot up while you walk. It takes time to get this stuff from the DR and you don't want to keep falling Or break toes. I would suggest an OSSUR foot up. It's <$50 on ebay. You put a wrap around your ankle and there's a piece that ties into your shoe laces. The piece clips to the wrap around your ankle. You may also do a search for some sort of night brace.
752530 tn?1233519188 I got a Richie brace yesterday for my foot drop. This thing is miserable. Does anyone else use one and of so how long does it take to stop feeling like your leg is in a midevil torture device. I did like the Dr said and used for 1 hour yesterday and 2 today. I sure dont see myself being able to use it all day tomorrow. Any advice?
1627868 tn?1333886342 I have foot also and was given a plastic ankle and foot brace with gel inside but, since I'm not able to walk it has helped me. But, yes it was a pain in the butt to wear but, it gave a lot of support. It you decide to get a custum one made maybe suggestion the kind of material that you want to use. That should help. It's would be worth the money as long as its comportable to wear. Take care.....
Avatar f tn the toe of my running shoe (yes it made that sound) on the treadmill. Drop foot (or foot drop) is caused by weakness that can be distal (ankle flexion) and/or proximal (hip) or both -- my situation. It also has different causes -- the most common causes are peripheral nerve issues such as diabetes or injury. It can also be caused by central nervous system weakness. Do you have weakness?
Avatar m tn I am glad you mentioned the compression stockings because I was thinking about wearing an ankle brace while running or cycling, but since this is a compression injury to the nerve I was not sure if it may further aggravate the situation. I had asked my doctor and he stated he didn't think it would further aggravate it. It was just one of those trial and error things. I just had the last injection a few days ago so I am really going to rest it before trying to start back.
Avatar f tn Not sure where you are from but in Aus, you would have been put into a post op shoe following cast removal (eg. Darko shoe) which lowers the forces running though your foot and allows for that muscle/gait reintegration process. You mentioned the pain becomes unbearable after a full day of work, this pain where is it and can you quantify it ( /10, type of pain, what makes it worst, what makes it better and how are you treating it?
645800 tn?1466860955 Yesterday I finally got my new foot brace for my right foot ( called a toe off) . Right from the start it felt so weird walking with it on. Probably mostly because my foot has been dropping and turning in for such a long time that I had gotten somewhat use to it. It is made of carbon fiber material and goes all the way up my shin to just below my knee.
Avatar n tn In the 1970's when I was a child I was diagnosed with pidgeon toes. My mother and father, at the doctor's request, put me in some kind of corrective brace that was to be used whenever I slept. Since I was still a baby that made up about 11 hours a day. the metal brace went between my two little hardsoled white shoes and was "cranked" ourward to adjust my foot position. Does anyone know what this thing was called???????
