Common Questions and Answers about Rsv young child

rsv

Avatar n tn The most common viral cause of wheezing in young children is the Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV). This is contagious, but is most common in children less than 2 years of age.
Avatar f tn My 4 year old son coughs constantly at night. It's a dry, hacking cough which does not bring up any phlegm. It doesn't sound "sick" at all--it's the type of cough I wouldn't even notice except that he does it so frequently. During the day, often when he laughs or cries, it turns into the same dry, hacking cough. Otherwise, I haven't noticed that he does much coughing during the day. Does this sound like asthma? He has never wheezed or had difficulty breathing.
Avatar m tn Can RSV cause cardiac arrest in a child with passed myocarditis and would he qualify to recieve rsv shot to prevent him from getting it.
Avatar n tn Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) is similar to the influenza virus that causes the flu. In infants and young children it can cause lung infections such as bronchiolitis or pneumonia. RSV infections happen over a period of time. They usually start with what appears as a cold and goes into a cough. Children respond in differing ways and differing levels of severity to this infection.
Avatar n tn Some w/ ear inf., others with RSV, and some with bronchiolitis. My son has not been that sick. He has had two bouts of bronchiolitis (9mths apart)and a sinus infection, all in one year. He has had congestion that he can't get rid of and a cough ( not nearly as bad as others I have read). Although sometimes his cough makes him vomit. I guess my question is this.....Could he have been misdiagnosed? Or are there less severe symptoms that go along with RAD? Please help!
172411 tn?1287086265 Minimize the number of visitors into your home and in contact with your infant. Require any visitors and persons who come in contact with your infant to wash their hands before touching him or her. Do not allow sick people into your home or near your infant. Avoid crowded places, such as malls, carnivals, circuses, community events, etc. Do not smoke or allow anyone else to smoke in the presence of your infant or child. If possible, do not take your child to day care during RSV season.
Avatar f tn That depends in the severity of the RSV. Right now my daughter (she's 18 months) has a very mild version of RSV.
Avatar f tn My 11 week has rsv .. He was full term .. Has any other mother had this in a infant ..
Avatar f tn You should ask his doctor if there is any sign of lung damage from the RSV. The good news is that, in most instances of RSV resulting in frequent bouts of croup or other respiratory infection, that frequent lung problems with fever are eventually “outgrown.” Definitely seek answers to your questions from his doctor and, if not satisfied with the responses, request consultation with a pediatric lung specialist.
Avatar m tn Can Rsv cause cardiac arrest in a child who has past myocarditis? My son had viral myocarditis at 7 months and got rsv at 2 two weeks later passed away. And with his passed medical history should they have done something different like check his heart?
Avatar f tn A teacher that I work with has a baby in the hospital with RSV. She emailed that if you baby has a cough with no fever, please take them to get checked for RSV. My DD is 6 months old and has had a chronic cough for a long time. It seems to get better and then starts all over again. I have taken to the doctor for it three times, the last time a week ago today. Everytime they check her really good and say it is just drainage from a cold. She has not had any fever and feels good.

So now today we got out of the childerns hospital they sent him home with oxygen but to me he still seems bad but they that he was Fine!!
Avatar f tn My last child is 3 yo so I think he's still within the age range of being at risk for getting RSV. Since his older brother had it when he was 9 months old it was so scary I dislike the winters because I fear every cold/cough they get. Has the RSV season begun already? My kids just started getting this cough, all of them have been just fine even my 3 yo until an hour ago...7pm. He has been breathing rapidly (53) since then but he doesn't have a fever or crying.
Avatar n tn HI MY CHILD WAS RECENTLY DIAGNOSED WITH AUTISTIC SPECTRUM DISORDER (ASD), BUT THE NEUROLOGIST ALSO TOLD ME THAT THE MRI SHOWED BRAIN SCARRING. I AM TERRIBLY CONCERNED FOR MY CHILD. I AM CURRENTLY AWAITING A SECOND OPINION. BUT WHAT KIND OF DISEASE COULD BRAIN SCARRING BE? HE HASN'T HAD A BRAIN INJURY HE ONLY HAD RSV WHEN HE WAS A NEWBORN OTHER THEN THAT HE IS RELATIVELY HEALTHY.
Avatar n tn My son is 10.5 mths old, for the last 12 weeks he has been suffering from RSV...for the first month we were give a bronchodialter, which helped for 2.5 weeks....finally after much persistance the pediatrician pegged him as having Irritable Airway Disease as well. Is this RAD? We have him on a few inhalers...what should we be looking for or is there any other treatment available? He has all of the symptoms of RSV...
Avatar f tn I will start off saying I'm only 21.I'm 9 weeks now with my 1st child . i will also be a single mother due to the dad not really owning up in his part . i was not ready for a child at all but my baby will be here February 27th in 2015. I am very happy knowing I'm pregnant .I've always wanted to be a mom but just didn't think it would happen or be so soon . so my adventure with my lil one begins.
765043 tn?1234583003 Im so scared. My son is on life support. 5 days now. He gets better and than all of a sudden he gets worse. Is there neone out there who can help. His lungs are all clouded. And his oxegyn went as low as 64. or 61. They had him on the bag until it stayed up on his own with the ventilater. Does anyone have any input. Please pray everyone!
Avatar n tn However your childs quality of life and being able to breath was probably the doctors concern. If a child is sick then the longer you wait to put them on meds the worse they can get and you will end up in the ER. I'm not the doctor so I don't know what he was looking for in the mucus sample test. Call the doctor.
377012 tn?1283965435 well, i know i should post in the maternal and child forum but i know most of u and most of u have children already so here goes!!!!!!!! my 2 1/2 yr. old has asthma and allergies.....had a flu shot on the 11th.......on the 17th he started wheezing, breathing rapidly, running a fever of 102.6...18th ne started getting diarrhea, nasal congestion along with the other symptoms, last night he began vomiting and his cough sounds croupy....could this be from the flu shot or could it be pneumonia...
192918 tn?1199451179 My oldest had RSV when she was young too...and therefore similar breathing problems. She too has outgrown it and she's 3 now. My 9 month old's name is Camryn too (but she's a girl) :) They tested her for RSV last night but it was negative. She also had the stomach bug last week and now this. So they are very similar. Her doctor put her on oral steroids for 5 days. Once that is finished, then she'll be on pulmicort every night and Singulair once a day until April.
Avatar n tn Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is pretty much related to age. That is, as he ages, the frequency of RSV should progressively diminish.
1743681 tn?1311222985 Greetings. I was wondering how common hyperthyroidism is in young children. My oldest daughter who just turned 4 was born a normal weight (7lbs13oz). At 5 months old, she was diagnosed with RSV and for some reason, decided to quit growing. She dropped from the 50th percentile to < the 3rd in 1 month. She weighed approximately 16 pounds at 1 year of age. At 4 years old, she now weighs 31 pounds. This child has the metabolism of a hummingbird. She is ALWAYS hungry.
Avatar n tn This helps the child from getting ill, It sound like if your child did not get these shots he might be getting symptoms of RSV. Here are some I know of: having a simple clear runny nose and occasional cough that can be treated at home, to severe difficulty breathing that may require hospitalization. Other symptoms might include a low-grade fever, sore throat, headache, and irritability.
