Common Questions and Answers about Rsv virus research

rsv

Avatar n tn For instance juvenile diabetes is thought to be triggered by a virus - the child was already set up to be vulnerable to developing it, they catch a viral illness and a few weeks later their pancreas starts to stop working and they develop signs of diabetes. Same goes with rsv, a very common respiratory virus that in infants and the elderly ( or immunosuppressed ) can cause them to be very ill.
Avatar f tn My 11 week has rsv .. He was full term .. Has any other mother had this in a infant ..
593530 tn?1263847957 I brought Brody to his pediatrician last week because he was very congested. After a nose swab was tested it was determined that he has RSV. Since it's a virus it can't be treated with antibiotics, so she instructed me to get a cool mist humidifier and keep his nasal pasages clear by using saline solution. The only symptom he's had is the congestion. There's no fever, coughing, mucous coming out, etc.

Avatar m tn Hello, my fellow dragon-fighting friends. I haven't been on this board for so long I was surprised it remembered my user name and password. I've seen all of this excitement about Acai Berry and Colon Cleanse, etc. with regard to weight loss, much more energy and improved memory. I haven't taken any yet because I wanted to do some research on it first, as any good HepC patient should do.

Avatar f tn is there a research group one could participate with, study and analyze past, present and future findidngs/options? i have been outbreak free for years and am almost certain i recently had my first outbreak in january - and they won't stop. i think the following has provoked the virus, as well as disable the latency stage: a. i took a strong proton pump inhibitor in january for my gerd - within a week i had a broken tail bone and rash of blisters across the bottom of my back.
Avatar f tn my baby has RSV. I felt sick a little before we found out she had it and then a cople days later I got a cold do you think that could be it? and thank you.
Avatar f tn This could be asthma and it could be related to the respiratory syntactical virus (RSV). However, you or your son’s doctors should not assume that asthma or cough-variant asthma is the diagnosis. Other causes of nocturnal cough should be investigated including, but not limited to, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), chronic rhinitis and sinusitis and cystic fibrosis (CF). He may need to be seen by a pediatric pulmonologist.
Avatar f tn Have you been to the doctor? RSV is quite prevalent this year. And cough that is a bit relentless is a symptom. Also, unfortunately, once our respiratory tract gets irritated, coughs can linger for quite a while after a virus has dissipated. Do you have a fever? I'd see a doctor for a cough that goes on for three weeks. I'm sure you are exhausted. Sleeping with a cough is tough.
377012 tn?1283965435 RSV is a respiratory virus...my son's symptoms: cough, congestion, runny nose, breathing issues.....i do have a runny nose but i have had a runny nose off and on for 4 weeks now!!! my lmp was October 18th-21st light pink/brown discharge....sorta spotting but not enough to wear a panty liner!!! my husband and i have been having unprotected sex for sometime now and were actively ttc and decided to stop in october before my lmp..........i should start AF in 5 days....
973741 tn?1342342773 but Influenza is excruciatingly painful (and RSV was not painful but is the only virus I went to an ER fearing death.) I fear Influenza so much I have been doing masks and Listerine for years but all it takes is that one exposure (RSV) during a lapse in following my own advice. I am curious whether Influenza could be eradicated in the future.
Avatar m tn I was in the ER a year ago because I felt like I was suffocating to death, and was hearing crackles in my chest. RSV B virus according to the nasal aspiration test lab results. (RSV-a pleasant way to die-you slowly suffocate but don't have any of the nasal sinus throat pain that comes with flu.) Xrays were negative but oxygenation rate was 85% and they gave me oxygen and an Albuterol nebulizer treatment, discharged home with antibiotics and an inhaler.
163305 tn?1333668571 00 PM Taking aim at a leading cause of liver failure in the United States, a team of scientists at the Massachusetts Biologic Laboratories (MBL) of the University of Massachusetts Medical School (UMMS) has developed a human monoclonal antibody that neutralizes the Hepatitis C virus (HCV). The new antibody effectively neutralized the virus in culture, and then prevented infection by the virus in a pre-clinical animal model of the disease.
1368291 tn?1299629804 Saturday he was having lots of nasal congestion and coughing so I took him to the ER. He tested positive for RSV so the last few days have been scary. We are doing a cool mist humidifier with eucalyptus oil at night, albuterol breathing treatments and keeping his nose suctioned out. I hope he gets better soon but I did learn that apparently you cant trust family to let you know...
Avatar f tn I went to my 18 wk sonogram yesterdayand told doc my 14 month old has rsv. A respitory virus and that now i have cold like symptoms and a rash on my face. She said i coukd have parvo and they drew blood to find out for sure but i don't have results yet. She says my baby can become anemic and can need a blood transfusion while in the womb. 1556646 tn?1294521754 Could it be related to a virus? He was in the ER yesterday for a high fever and the it happened today. A week after the last incident he was in the hospital for croup and then 2 days later RSV. Thanks.
Avatar n tn My son Jack has been experiencing skin irritation for the last month or so. He started off out of the blue with red spots under the skin with very little "bump' to them. I thought for sure he was getting Chx Pox but that was not it, did some research in Mumps since it looked more like that. no go there. He still experiences itching around his neck, back and arms.. His eyes have dark circles under them as well.

Avatar f tn I am very concerned about this respiratory virus, it's hitting our state hard and by the numbers!!! I live in Atlanta Georgia (USA if course). It's been known to man kind since the 1960's but it's at its highest rate now in 2014. It's been very active since August but has left many children in the hospital and most are in the intensive care unit!!! An average of 4/5 days to stay, some even more. I am worried about my children at school a 2nd grader and a kindergartener.
Avatar f tn How does one research the results of phase1 clinical trials on a new drug? If anyone has any suggestions I'd appreciate hearing them. thanks!
Avatar f tn Hi: You did not say what doctor you have seen already. It could be something that an infectious disease doctor could diagnose, but you are asking about this on the Leukemia website. Did someone suggest the possibility of Leukemia? Usually when a patient presents with a high WBC along with high platelets a bone marrow biopsy is done to rule out Leukemia. If its not a form of Leukemia, then they would do further testing to see what is causing this problem. How old is your daughter?
