Avatar f tn She emailed that if you baby has a cough with no fever, please take them to get checked for RSV. My DD is 6 months old and has had a chronic cough for a long time. It seems to get better and then starts all over again. I have taken to the doctor for it three times, the last time a week ago today. Everytime they check her really good and say it is just drainage from a cold. She has not had any fever and feels good. Last night her cough seemed a little worse, but she still feels great.
Avatar n tn t get rid of and a cough ( not nearly as bad as others I have read). Although sometimes his cough makes him vomit. I guess my question is this.....Could he have been misdiagnosed? Or are there less severe symptoms that go along with RAD? Please help!
Avatar f tn Since his older brother had it when he was 9 months old it was so scary I dislike the winters because I fear every cold/cough they get. Has the RSV season begun already? My kids just started getting this cough, all of them have been just fine even my 3 yo until an hour ago...7pm. He has been breathing rapidly (53) since then but he doesn't have a fever or crying. He's sitting down now watching a video now.
Avatar n tn During the course of this viral infection, a child can develop a secondary bacterial infection. The symptoms of this infection can be more severe in nature than the RSV and lead to higher temperature and greater difficulty. This can happen quite quickly. The source of this infection could be from the ears or sinuses or directly into the lungs. I hope this helps answer some of your questions.
Avatar f tn My son had the same exact thing, and it turned out to be RSV. he was 5 months old then. Now he has the cough again at 6 months, so we are back on breathing treatments. I know exactly what you are going through!!! We triee EVERYTHING before we brought him to the hospital, and nothing worked. I would have them check for RSV if the allergy medicine doesnt work. Good luck!
Avatar n tn My 12 month twin girls both had RSV in March with one hospitalized for 5 days on oxygen. One week after they were over the RSV they began coughing, just at night. The family doc we see first tried decongestants, then Zantac, and now we are doing albuterol/pulmicort nebs twice a day. Since they only cough at night does it seem possible that they are coming in contact with a bedroom allergy? The cough is loose and rattley sounding and sometimes they gag or vomit.
Avatar n tn Maybe go for a second opinion. I would.. It very well could be RSV. My daughter has alot of the same symptoms and they are tryign to figure out what it is.. does he seem to be in distress when his lips turn blue... or does anything about him change when he has a fever... or coughing??? If your doctor isnt giving you proper advice. Go get a second opinion.
Avatar f tn My 11 week has rsv .. He was full term .. Has any other mother had this in a infant ..
372328 tn?1214776427 I would suggest you take her in now, just to rule out RSV (peak season runs from Oct -March). It's a quick nose swab test. When my daughter was 9 mo old, she had similar symptoms and I wish i hadn't waited so long. She did have RSV and needed nebulizer treatments to help treat it. Had I waited another day or so, we probably would have ended up in the hospital. Don't mean to scare you, but RSV can be very serious in kids under 2.
Avatar f tn This could be asthma and it could be related to the respiratory syntactical virus (RSV). However, you or your son’s doctors should not assume that asthma or cough-variant asthma is the diagnosis. Other causes of nocturnal cough should be investigated including, but not limited to, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), chronic rhinitis and sinusitis and cystic fibrosis (CF). He may need to be seen by a pediatric pulmonologist.
146191 tn?1236877812 edward has had a cough the last couple of days. he has no fever and no other symptoms but it is not like a dry cough, it sounds like there's some mucus there and everytime he does cough, it seems like it bothers him. like maybe his throat is hurting or scrtachy? i am taking him to the dr. tomorrow anyway for his 10 month checkup but i just wanted to know if theres anything i should/could be doing in the meantime.
Avatar n tn My child was born 7 weeks early. It sounds like your shild did not get his/her RSV shots. Here are the symptoms. Please get him/her tested ASAP it could be life threatening : Again, the symptoms of RSV infections can range from having a simple clear runny nose and occasional cough that can be treated at home, to severe difficulty breathing that may require hospitalization. Other symptoms might include a low-grade fever, sore throat, headache, and irritability.
Avatar n tn having a simple clear runny nose and occasional cough that can be treated at home, to severe difficulty breathing that may require hospitalization. Other symptoms might include a low-grade fever, sore throat, headache, and irritability. Younger children, especially those under 2 or 3 years old, are most at risk for more severe symptoms, such as high fever, wheezing, difficulty breathing, a persistent cough, or apnea. I hope this helps.
193609 tn?1292180293 Cam got that at 10 weeks and we had to go to the hospital for tests and to be monitored for awhile. A barking cough sounds more like croup than RSV though, RSV is more of a gagging cough, at least from what we've experienced. Nebbing is pretty common, just be sure to keep up on it till he's doing better, we neb alot, Cam actually falls asleep from the noise, Cars used to get really hyper from it. I hope you get a clear bill at the Dr. and maybe some more sleep. Hang in there.
Avatar n tn My 7 year old daughter seems to develop a hyperactive cough whenever she catches a cold/flu. She will cough almost non-stop, 24/7, often severe enough to cause vomiting, and occasionally develops crup and strider with difficulty breathing. This will last a week or more with each viral infection, although when healthy, she doesn't cough at all. When my 3 year old son catches (presumably) the same virus, he experiences much milder symptoms.
Avatar f tn You should ask his doctor if there is any sign of lung damage from the RSV. The good news is that, in most instances of RSV resulting in frequent bouts of croup or other respiratory infection, that frequent lung problems with fever are eventually “outgrown.” Definitely seek answers to your questions from his doctor and, if not satisfied with the responses, request consultation with a pediatric lung specialist.
Avatar f tn if not then it might just be cold drs will worry if the baby develops a fever or bad cough.
Avatar n tn Pulmicort is used to prevent and reduce symptoms (wheezing and shortness of breath) caused by asthma. This medication belongs to a class of drugs known as corticosteroids. It works directly in the lungs to make breathing easier by reducing the irritation and swelling of the airways. Amoxicillin is a antibiotic which a lot of times is used to treat bronchitis along with many other things. Doctors can listen to a patients breathing and usually make a pretty good analysis if they have bronchitis.
1636573 tn?1300257994 The first day we got home he seemed sick well I found out he had RSV. He was on treatments for a few weeks then stopped. He cleared up and now he is bout 2 1/2 months old. He has doubledhis birth weight but now he is having trouble eating. And he wheezes when he breaths, and breaths fast. No cough. But he has always breath fast. And his lungs always sound clear.
Avatar n tn My son is going to be 2 months old soon and a couple of days after he was born they told me he has RSV, i have been in and out of the hospital so many times and he dose not seem to be getting any better. I have read everybody stories and How they lost their loved ones and i am so scared that it might happen to my son. Please is there anything that i can do to prevent this from getting worse???
Avatar m tn I was in the ER a year ago because I felt like I was suffocating to death, and was hearing crackles in my chest. RSV B virus according to the nasal aspiration test lab results. (RSV-a pleasant way to die-you slowly suffocate but don't have any of the nasal sinus throat pain that comes with flu.) Xrays were negative but oxygenation rate was 85% and they gave me oxygen and an Albuterol nebulizer treatment, discharged home with antibiotics and an inhaler.
17339543 tn?1455969537 My two months old baby is having a mild cough. Can I give septrin? I feel terrible anytime he coughs.
377012 tn?1283965435 on the 17th he started wheezing, breathing rapidly, running a fever of 102.6...18th ne started getting diarrhea, nasal congestion along with the other symptoms, last night he began vomiting and his cough sounds croupy....could this be from the flu shot or could it be pneumonia...any advice!!!!???????????
Avatar f tn My six month old has RSV! He was tested positive for it two days ago. He is not eating much at all and on amoxicillin. His fever is gone now but he is still breathing fast and still very raspy! The hospital told me that RSV would not affect his appetite it was because his nose was stuffed up???? How long does it usually take for his breathing to get better?? I always thought that most babies with RSV were hospitalized. Isnt there something else they could give him to improve his breathing.
Avatar n tn s had a runny nose and slight cough. Docs all say its not RSV or any other thing... Why is this happening? Is it really just the germs she is being exposed to at the day care daily? How long will her fevers last? Is being at the day care good for her immune system, building it up...Or is it bad because she keeps getting fevers?
