Avatar n tn having a simple clear runny nose and occasional cough that can be treated at home, to severe difficulty breathing that may require hospitalization. Other symptoms might include a low-grade fever, sore throat, headache, and irritability. Younger children, especially those under 2 or 3 years old, are most at risk for more severe symptoms, such as high fever, wheezing, difficulty breathing, a persistent cough, or apnea. I hope this helps.

Avatar n tn My eleven year old daughter has experienced odd symptoms from about four weeks of age. It seems as though she gets everything that comes along. We are frustrated to say the least. The list seems long: -Elevated biliruben for 5 weeks at birth -RSV and double pneumonia at 6wks -ongoing colds and pneumonias (no less than annual) and strep rashes -RSV at age 2 again requiring hospitalization -Age 2-4 spontaneous vomitting on about a 30 day cycle.
Avatar f tn My 4 year old son coughs constantly at night. It's a dry, hacking cough which does not bring up any phlegm. It doesn't sound "sick" at all--it's the type of cough I wouldn't even notice except that he does it so frequently. During the day, often when he laughs or cries, it turns into the same dry, hacking cough. Otherwise, I haven't noticed that he does much coughing during the day. Does this sound like asthma? He has never wheezed or had difficulty breathing.
Avatar n tn My wife had our first child two weeks ago and he was diagnosed with SVT - WPW. He's being taken care of by an amazing team of doctors at Children's Hospital in Boston. My question is more about dealing with his condition once we get home. My wife and I are going back to work and we're concerned about sending him to day care. What have people done? Any recommendations/advice? My son will be in the hospital at least another week to 10 days before becoming an outpatient.
Avatar f tn ve been reading your post and researching a bit to see if I can be of help, as your child sounds quite ill in his lower respiratory tract. The RSV can be a serious virus in young children. Were you told much about it? Did the pulmonologist (hopefully you're seeing a specialist!) explain why he/she thinks your son was having these difficulties? Usually a full term baby - even one with asthma doesn't have so many other respiratory disorders.
377012 tn?1283965435 uuggghhh it was like acid coming up green watery substance. my son was diagnosed with RSV yesterday and i was wondering if im not preggo then could the RSV affect me causing me to feel this way?????
Avatar f tn He has pneumonia every other month (since birth), he has also had bronchiolitis (without RSV), bronchitis, H1N1, and most currently RSV. When he was two we removed his tonsil and adenoids in hopes to help his asthma symptoms. While it did decrease the amount of sinus infections he had, it did nothing to help any other area. He is on Advair, 115/21 two puffs twice daily, and Allegra (for unknown allergies).
Avatar n tn My son is going to be 2 months old soon and a couple of days after he was born they told me he has RSV, i have been in and out of the hospital so many times and he dose not seem to be getting any better. I have read everybody stories and How they lost their loved ones and i am so scared that it might happen to my son. Please is there anything that i can do to prevent this from getting worse???
593530 tn?1263847957 I brought Brody to his pediatrician last week because he was very congested. After a nose swab was tested it was determined that he has RSV. Since it's a virus it can't be treated with antibiotics, so she instructed me to get a cool mist humidifier and keep his nasal pasages clear by using saline solution. The only symptom he's had is the congestion. There's no fever, coughing, mucous coming out, etc.
1368291 tn?1299629804 Saturday he was having lots of nasal congestion and coughing so I took him to the ER. He tested positive for RSV so the last few days have been scary. We are doing a cool mist humidifier with eucalyptus oil at night, albuterol breathing treatments and keeping his nose suctioned out. I hope he gets better soon but I did learn that apparently you cant trust family to let you know...
1347128 tn?1333810296 My 3 month baby had RSV when he was 6 weeks old, but since then, he has a phlegm sound, that is always there.
Avatar m tn One gal on this site had a child who was chronically ill until she moved from her apartment, which had a mold problem in the walls, to a different place. Is the child exposed to a smoker? Even if a smoker does not smoke around the child, the residue on their clothes can give the child illnesses. How clean is the daycare?
Avatar f tn My father in law has a very visible cold sore and even after being asked not to share anything or kiss my child, decided to kiss my child on the cheek and forehead. Even though I admit I might be overreacting, my main concern is how much I should be worried? Is there any real worry here? Would it be necessary to reach out to my toddler's pediatrician?
Avatar f tn my 2 oldest children have had chicken pox more then a handful of times, each child has had pnuemonia at least 10 time most of the time being hospitalized, their ige levels are all above 70000, my sons list of medical problems are he was born with ...
Avatar f tn Is oxygen stats were 96 when they r normaly 100. the docs did a exam and a culture from his nose for RSV. after a few hours they had us go home and I was told to keep fluids in him and fever down. I got a call an hour later saying he has RVS but he will be fine. Sunday came and my son still had fever and was drinking but not a lot. He was still coughing and sneezing and he did have wheezing. he wnet to bed that night and never woke up he died some time in the early morning.
Avatar f tn I went to my 18 wk sonogram yesterdayand told doc my 14 month old has rsv. A respitory virus and that now i have cold like symptoms and a rash on my face. She said i coukd have parvo and they drew blood to find out for sure but i don't have results yet. She says my baby can become anemic and can need a blood transfusion while in the womb. I am so terrified.
Avatar f tn I would be really careful my daughter was a preemie and as soon as we got home she ended up back in the hospital with rsv because this is the time of year its out. And because she was so small she almost died and ended up in a childrens hospital for 5 weeks. It was horrible.
Avatar n tn If the pressure is high and the defect is smaller, she will likely not require surgery. However, if the pressure is low and she is having symptoms of getting out of breath or becoming sweaty with feeds, she will need some medications to help with these symptoms and may be more likely to require surgical closure of her defect.
Avatar f tn I took my 4 week old to the ER and they told me he has RSV. They just gave me a paper on it, They didn't really tell me what to do except suction out his nose. I read the paper ad it told me that in mild disease that no specific treatment is necessary. So I guess he is only a mild case, but I don't know how to tell if he is getting worse. I read on another site that family history of asthma puts him at a higher risk for becoming a severe case. I am know wen he is getting worse?
Avatar m tn I brought him in on Friday morning to be checked out and it turns out he caught a virus called Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV), which is basically an infection of the lungs. Even writing this I break in tears to see my little one suffer so much. It's more like a common cold in adults but for kids his age is more like Bronchiolitis. I had to take him to the ER because of the fever and congestion.
Avatar m tn On 8th August, i had unprotected sex with a girl. She got similar fever-like symptoms on the morning of the second day. Then she went to doctor's , and the doctor told her it was tonsillitis. May I ask whether this is related to stis or even HIV?
Avatar n tn For instance juvenile diabetes is thought to be triggered by a virus - the child was already set up to be vulnerable to developing it, they catch a viral illness and a few weeks later their pancreas starts to stop working and they develop signs of diabetes. Same goes with rsv, a very common respiratory virus that in infants and the elderly ( or immunosuppressed ) can cause them to be very ill.
