Common Questions and Answers about Rsv symptoms child

rsv

Avatar m tn Can RSV cause cardiac arrest in a child with passed myocarditis and would he qualify to recieve rsv shot to prevent him from getting it.
Avatar n tn When this is persistent, most are more inclined to use the term asthma. If your child has had the symptoms you describe, the diagnosis of RAD is fairly common.
172411 tn?1287086265 Minimize the number of visitors into your home and in contact with your infant. Require any visitors and persons who come in contact with your infant to wash their hands before touching him or her. Do not allow sick people into your home or near your infant. Avoid crowded places, such as malls, carnivals, circuses, community events, etc. Do not smoke or allow anyone else to smoke in the presence of your infant or child. If possible, do not take your child to day care during RSV season.
Avatar f tn My last child is 3 yo so I think he's still within the age range of being at risk for getting RSV. Since his older brother had it when he was 9 months old it was so scary I dislike the winters because I fear every cold/cough they get. Has the RSV season begun already? My kids just started getting this cough, all of them have been just fine even my 3 yo until an hour ago...7pm. He has been breathing rapidly (53) since then but he doesn't have a fever or crying.
Avatar n tn During the course of this viral infection, a child can develop a secondary bacterial infection. The symptoms of this infection can be more severe in nature than the RSV and lead to higher temperature and greater difficulty. This can happen quite quickly. The source of this infection could be from the ears or sinuses or directly into the lungs. I hope this helps answer some of your questions.
Avatar n tn Maybe go for a second opinion. I would.. It very well could be RSV. My daughter has alot of the same symptoms and they are tryign to figure out what it is.. does he seem to be in distress when his lips turn blue... or does anything about him change when he has a fever... or coughing??? If your doctor isnt giving you proper advice. Go get a second opinion.
Avatar n tn He has all of the symptoms of RSV...they did the mucous test and said he has moderate case and that the ventolin and cortisone inhaler will help make him comfortable, although I am losing faith in his Dr. since I was the one that was showing the most concern for an answer. We have been in to see her once a week for 12 weeks...he has ran 2 very high fevers that lasted days each one, along with crying when coughing...is this a true diagnoses or is she covering her tracks for treatment?
377012 tn?1283965435 well, i know i should post in the maternal and child forum but i know most of u and most of u have children already so here goes!!!!!!!! my 2 1/2 yr. old has asthma and allergies.....had a flu shot on the 11th.......on the 17th he started wheezing, breathing rapidly, running a fever of 102.6...18th ne started getting diarrhea, nasal congestion along with the other symptoms, last night he began vomiting and his cough sounds croupy....could this be from the flu shot or could it be pneumonia...
Avatar n tn having a simple clear runny nose and occasional cough that can be treated at home, to severe difficulty breathing that may require hospitalization. Other symptoms might include a low-grade fever, sore throat, headache, and irritability. Younger children, especially those under 2 or 3 years old, are most at risk for more severe symptoms, such as high fever, wheezing, difficulty breathing, a persistent cough, or apnea. I hope this helps.
Avatar f tn RSV is a very serious complication with children under the age of 2, but it can affect anyone. It is a severe upper respiratory infection. If you've taken her to get checked out she has a clean bill of health, trust your docs! They take RSV very seriously. My newborn niece had RSV. She had a rattly cough in her lungs and had to have breathing treatments.
Avatar n tn Pulmicort is used to prevent and reduce symptoms (wheezing and shortness of breath) caused by asthma. This medication belongs to a class of drugs known as corticosteroids. It works directly in the lungs to make breathing easier by reducing the irritation and swelling of the airways. Amoxicillin is a antibiotic which a lot of times is used to treat bronchitis along with many other things. Doctors can listen to a patients breathing and usually make a pretty good analysis if they have bronchitis.
Avatar f tn My 11 week has rsv .. He was full term .. Has any other mother had this in a infant ..
Avatar f tn You should ask his doctor if there is any sign of lung damage from the RSV. The good news is that, in most instances of RSV resulting in frequent bouts of croup or other respiratory infection, that frequent lung problems with fever are eventually “outgrown.” Definitely seek answers to your questions from his doctor and, if not satisfied with the responses, request consultation with a pediatric lung specialist.
Avatar m tn Can Rsv cause cardiac arrest in a child who has past myocarditis? My son had viral myocarditis at 7 months and got rsv at 2 two weeks later passed away. And with his passed medical history should they have done something different like check his heart?

Avatar n tn My child was born 7 weeks early. It sounds like your shild did not get his/her RSV shots. Here are the symptoms. Please get him/her tested ASAP it could be life threatening : Again, the symptoms of RSV infections can range from having a simple clear runny nose and occasional cough that can be treated at home, to severe difficulty breathing that may require hospitalization. Other symptoms might include a low-grade fever, sore throat, headache, and irritability.
Avatar n tn HI MY CHILD WAS RECENTLY DIAGNOSED WITH AUTISTIC SPECTRUM DISORDER (ASD), BUT THE NEUROLOGIST ALSO TOLD ME THAT THE MRI SHOWED BRAIN SCARRING. I AM TERRIBLY CONCERNED FOR MY CHILD. I AM CURRENTLY AWAITING A SECOND OPINION. BUT WHAT KIND OF DISEASE COULD BRAIN SCARRING BE? HE HASN'T HAD A BRAIN INJURY HE ONLY HAD RSV WHEN HE WAS A NEWBORN OTHER THEN THAT HE IS RELATIVELY HEALTHY.
Avatar n tn My eleven year old daughter has experienced odd symptoms from about four weeks of age. It seems as though she gets everything that comes along. We are frustrated to say the least. The list seems long: -Elevated biliruben for 5 weeks at birth -RSV and double pneumonia at 6wks -ongoing colds and pneumonias (no less than annual) and strep rashes -RSV at age 2 again requiring hospitalization -Age 2-4 spontaneous vomitting on about a 30 day cycle.
Avatar n tn Thanks for your comments. The reason for me asking is our baby girl, 4 1/2 months, passed away January 2, 2003. We had taken her to the doctor 3 different times for a cough/congestion that wasn't getting any better. Of the 3 times that we took her the nurse took her temp the very first time. The other 2 times, if they were going to choose a time to take her temp should've been the 2nd and 3rd visit.
Avatar n tn Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is pretty much related to age. That is, as he ages, the frequency of RSV should progressively diminish.
Avatar n tn In reading what the symptoms of RAD actuall are, I am concerned that my son has been incorrectly diagnosed. He does not have wheezing or difficulty breathing. He does however have severe congestion that doesn't help his breathing. The allergist we took him to stated that his adenoids were enlarged and she had us take an x-ray. We haven't received the results yet, but I guess I need to ask if it is possible to have RAD without those other symptoms??? Please help! Thank you!
Avatar f tn My 4 year old son coughs constantly at night. It's a dry, hacking cough which does not bring up any phlegm. It doesn't sound "sick" at all--it's the type of cough I wouldn't even notice except that he does it so frequently. During the day, often when he laughs or cries, it turns into the same dry, hacking cough. Otherwise, I haven't noticed that he does much coughing during the day. Does this sound like asthma? He has never wheezed or had difficulty breathing.
Avatar n tn Like you my son has RSV when under 1 yrs of age. I do not know what your symptoms are but mine would get frequently breathing problems, I was using oral steroids several times a year, and ear infections as well. To make a long story short, by recommendation of his pediatrician we took him to follow an ENT specialist and an Allergist. The ENT specialist ended up giving him tubes for the ear infections and the Allergist began medications. He is 4 years old now.
