Avatar n tn He is doing great health wise. He does not have any known health problem. he gets the synergis shot for RSV... It must be working because he is practically the only kid in our town that is not sick. I know he'll catch up, it just helps to know other preemies out there are waiting to reach milestones.
Avatar n tn I feel for you. We were in the hospital twice with RSV last winter with our little guy. He has NO effects and the doctors have said nothing about long term effects. It's scary seeing them on oxygen and it's true, it just has to run it's course. They will probably keep you a few days after he IS well to monitor him. They did with our little guy anyway. Our little guy does have asthma but it's a mild case and I have never been told it was related to RSV.

Avatar f tn My 3 month old daughter was diagnosed with a phnumathormax and staph in her right lung. She also tested pos for rsv. They are not sure what caused the phnumathormax, or if could reaccure. She is starting to cough again so she is on atibiotics again and has been referred to a lung doctor. The only way this was detected was from an x-ray. Her lungs gave no sign from them listening to her. What could cause these air pockets to accure again if they should, and could the staph come from the rsv?

172411 tn?1287086265 Therefore, persons within close contact with an individual infected with RSV may become infected. The RSV infection occurs when the respiratory secretions (droplets) comes in contact with the mucous membranes of the eyes, nose, or mouth. The most common method of transmission is inhalation of the RSV infected droplets after someone has sneezed or coughs. RSV can survive for several hours on surfaces and hands, but can be easily "killed" by using soap and water or a disinfectant.
Avatar m tn Can RSV cause cardiac arrest in a child with passed myocarditis and would he qualify to recieve rsv shot to prevent him from getting it.
Avatar f tn I would be really careful my daughter was a preemie and as soon as we got home she ended up back in the hospital with rsv because this is the time of year its out. And because she was so small she almost died and ended up in a childrens hospital for 5 weeks. It was horrible.
Avatar f tn I am not sure my now 6 year old son, Chris got a severe case of RSV when he was 5 weeks old. I also had a 20 month at home with a "cold" My 20 month old, Gary was never tested for RSV because he wasn't in distress. Chris got it again when he was 2 1/2 years old and it was the middle of summer.
Avatar n tn I don't have preemies, my sons were born big and healthy, but we still had battles with RSV and it was awful. We are still paying for it with Cameron, he's 6 months old and very sick right now. He got sick his first 2 days at daycare. The gagging and choking cough was so bad and scary, his oxygen levels got pretty low and we were very lucky to keep him out of the hospital. We had to go in daily to have him monitored and I didn't sleep much at all.
Avatar n tn Posted By lucasti32 on March 30, 1999 at 13:11:14: I take amiodarone 300mg daily to control atrial fibrillation. We're going to Africa and I will have to take a malaria prophylaxis. As it is a chloroquine resistant area I will have to take Mefloquine or Lariam. Are they compatible with amiodarone? If not any suggestions for prophylaxis for malaria that don't contraindicate with cordarone?
Avatar f tn Since last June he has ran a temp at least once a month(usually more). He was treated for RSV about 2 weeks ago and is also being treated for asthma symptoms. He finished a round of antibotics about a week ago and as of last Friday has started running fever again. It generally runns between 99-101 but has recently started rising to 103-104.5(it was 104.5 when I took him to the hosp and he tested positive for RSV).
Avatar n tn It was rough, but he had inhaled fluid at birth and has had problems with his breathing. When he had RSV they called me that day with the results though, so if they aren't in a big rush that's probably a good sign, or they are really backed up. All you can really do for it is nebulize them and watch out to make sure that they are breathing okay.
Avatar f tn A teacher that I work with has a baby in the hospital with RSV. She emailed that if you baby has a cough with no fever, please take them to get checked for RSV. My DD is 6 months old and has had a chronic cough for a long time. It seems to get better and then starts all over again. I have taken to the doctor for it three times, the last time a week ago today. Everytime they check her really good and say it is just drainage from a cold. She has not had any fever and feels good.
Avatar n tn There maybe a small increase in recurrent wheezing episodes in about 40% of children with previous RSV infections only if there was a strong family history of allergies and asthma. RSV may recur again but symptoms tend to be milder with subsequent re-infections This information is strictly for academic purposes and the patient's physician is ultimately responsible for the care and management .
Avatar f tn Especially for infants and toddlers my goodness!! I have a few friends with babies around thst age with that or toddlers with pneumonia or bronchitis. One friend has a kid with ALL THREE! He's in the hospital. Poor little dude. I hope your babe heals fast! Keep your head up mama!!
Avatar n tn Did they diagnose him with RSV? Usually they will have you neb them, but it's a virus and they don't give an antibiotic right away, so it coud very well be something else, like an infection.
1690584 tn?1340297472 Savannah was admitted to the hospital for RSV, Bronchitis, Ear Infection. Stayed until Saturday but was released earlier then she should have been due to Christmas. Her oxygen levels were still not staying up high but she is now doing better. She does have a partial collapse of the right lung and they want to no check her heart due to some blue around the mouth.
Avatar f tn My daughter passed away when she was just over 1 year old and an autopsy was performed. The only thing found was RSV on her brain. Everything else, including heart and lungs were normal. I just want to know, should they not have also been able to find this in her lungs as well, if this is what she died from? Keep in mind, she was not sick prior to her death, and she was born full term....9lbs 6 1/2oz.
Avatar f tn Finally a few days ago i took him in again to the ER n they found out he has a virus newborns have been getting its Called Rsv n if they would have tested it before they would have found it i was So pissed!!! So now today we got out of the childerns hospital they sent him home with oxygen but to me he still seems bad but they that he was Fine!!
Avatar f tn Understand your predicament and sympathize with you. It could be a rare case, as RSV as the name implies usually affects the lungs. But the hypoxia due to the lung infection caused by RSV can consequently affect the brain. It is difficult to comment beyond this. Hope this helped and do keep us posted.
