Common Questions and Answers about Rsv or cold

rsv

Avatar n tn If you are worried ask for doctor but try to avoid contact with people who may have cough, cold and or sneezing to stop secondary infection. I am no expert just learning day by day, researching on internet to see if there is anything i can do to help. All the best wishes to your son.
Avatar f tn It is of course an intial thought now when you mention it, but I don't know much about virology. The RSV affects infants much more than an adult. It is contageous. In adults, it might give pretty inagressive symptoms though: a common cold, mild headache, cough, fever, and a general feeling of being ill. I should mention that respiratory symptoms are present too. An adult can fight this virus without meds.
973741 tn?1342342773 s kind of surprising that you fear death from RSV, usually considered to be a mild virus (often compared to a mild cold). Have you actually had RSV and had a bad time with it, or are you just frightened of it?
377012 tn?1283965435 18th ne started getting diarrhea, nasal congestion along with the other symptoms, last night he began vomiting and his cough sounds croupy....could this be from the flu shot or could it be pneumonia...any advice!!!!???????????
Avatar f tn has she had a fever or coughing??? if not then it might just be cold drs will worry if the baby develops a fever or bad cough.
1347128 tn?1333810296 her doctor said that the next cold she gets it would most likely turn into the RSV again. but they gave her benadril. her doctor told me to get a humidifier and put it in the same room as the baby and turn or you could also turn on the hot water and get it steamy in there while you have your baby in there and that could help also, i did both of those thing with her and it helped alot!!
1346146 tn?1299360497 Well Lauren has rsv! My pedi also said adults can get it to!?!? Didn't know that. I guess that explains this cold type stuff I have. So she is on breathing treatments. We caught it early enough so hopefully it wont be so bad. Dh is also sick, my oldest son broke his foot last week at school and is in a nonwalking cast, and Lauren also bit my left breast last week while nursing and it's infected so im on antibiotics and she can't nurse from that side!
Avatar n tn The vaccine has been shown to be effective in preventing and/or reducing the severity of RSV infections and the number of hospitalizations each year. Infants who are a product of multiple births, have lung disease, low birth weight, heart disease, and those born prematurely are at a higher risk to contract a serious form of Resipritory Syncytial Virus.
Avatar f tn RSV is a resportory disease that starts as a common cold and then starts to shot down the resportory system very scary. We finally found out what it was that my daughter had. She had strep in the stomach and intestines. Instead of the strep staying in her throat she swallowed it. She got worse that ever after I posted this, so I brought her to a different hospital and they figured it out. thanks for responding.
Avatar f tn If it is an infection and she is on antibiotics, it is probably a cold that turned into a secondary infection. meaning, the mucus got trapped in her chest or sinuses and then became bacterial. That isn't contagious but the virus was . . . but that becomes less so as days pass. I practice good hand washing, being careful about people coughing on me, carry hand sanitizer and do tend to avoid getting sick by those sickies around me.
Avatar f tn My 11 week has rsv .. He was full term .. Has any other mother had this in a infant ..
973741 tn?1342342773 NO SLEEP due to the coughing. I this RSV? Covid with some weird strain? King cold? Regular cold? Is it going around. I'm over it.
593530 tn?1263847957 I brought Brody to his pediatrician last week because he was very congested. After a nose swab was tested it was determined that he has RSV. Since it's a virus it can't be treated with antibiotics, so she instructed me to get a cool mist humidifier and keep his nasal pasages clear by using saline solution. The only symptom he's had is the congestion. There's no fever, coughing, mucous coming out, etc.
Avatar n tn My daughter is 3 months old and has caught a cold, she's already been to the doctor and we are doing all we can do but I can't help but wonder is it because I placed her crib by the window? Its hot during the day, cool at night, and then a tad cold in the morning. Do you think all these rapid weather changes affected her?
Avatar f tn Finally a few days ago i took him in again to the ER n they found out he has a virus newborns have been getting its Called Rsv n if they would have tested it before they would have found it i was So pissed!!! So now today we got out of the childerns hospital they sent him home with oxygen but to me he still seems bad but they that he was Fine!!
1368291 tn?1299629804 Saturday he was having lots of nasal congestion and coughing so I took him to the ER. He tested positive for RSV so the last few days have been scary. We are doing a cool mist humidifier with eucalyptus oil at night, albuterol breathing treatments and keeping his nose suctioned out. I hope he gets better soon but I did learn that apparently you cant trust family to let you know...
229857 tn?1319029907 Oh he also has a little rash on his face which I know is common in babies that have a cold or other type of infection... the thing im worried about is RSV??? I think thats what its called. I read online it usually shows up between 4-6 week olds and he is 4 weeks... also im worried about the dark yellow mucus being an infection like pneunomia or something.. Gosh I hate the internet!!
2189208 tn?1339572701 Rsv is a really bad cold it does nothing,to adults but is in,some cases fatal to infants!
Avatar f tn From what I was told that if you baby wasn't premature or have a cardiac history then having RSV most likley is going to be mild. here is what you should loook for for worseing things, my son had it when he was 5 weeks old and he does have a cardiac issue so I hope your little one is healthy. look for bluish on the lops nail and nail bed. your little one really struggling to breathe if his nostrils are moving back and forth as well as him "sucking in " at his ribs.
Avatar f tn This could be asthma and it could be related to the respiratory syntactical virus (RSV). However, you or your son’s doctors should not assume that asthma or cough-variant asthma is the diagnosis. Other causes of nocturnal cough should be investigated including, but not limited to, gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), chronic rhinitis and sinusitis and cystic fibrosis (CF). He may need to be seen by a pediatric pulmonologist.
Avatar f tn My daughter is 10 months old and has a horrible cold.
Avatar f tn 6 weeks ago i brought my 11 month old son to er due to cough, cold, wheezing and high fever of 104.6. it was a saturday by the way. my son had an open PDA that was getting fix this month. Is oxygen stats were 96 when they r normaly 100. the docs did a exam and a culture from his nose for RSV. after a few hours they had us go home and I was told to keep fluids in him and fever down. I got a call an hour later saying he has RVS but he will be fine.
1346146 tn?1299360497 We are having a great time here...from rsv to double ear infection! The dr gave her antibiotic hope it works fast!
Avatar f tn He has pneumonia every other month (since birth), he has also had bronchiolitis (without RSV), bronchitis, H1N1, and most currently RSV. When he was two we removed his tonsil and adenoids in hopes to help his asthma symptoms. While it did decrease the amount of sinus infections he had, it did nothing to help any other area. He is on Advair, 115/21 two puffs twice daily, and Allegra (for unknown allergies).
Avatar f tn If u feel comfortable taking baby out when u do just have people wash sanitize hands before holding the baby if near by they need to cover mouths when they cough cover nose when they sneeze then wash sanitize hands (which should be a must no matter what when you sneeze or cough ) and if cold cool weather have a carseat cover they are more sensitive to cold weather than us same with hot weather don't over cover bundle up if weather is warm
