Common Questions and Answers about Rsv in hospital

rsv

Avatar n tn I feel for you. We were in the hospital twice with RSV last winter with our little guy. He has NO effects and the doctors have said nothing about long term effects. It's scary seeing them on oxygen and it's true, it just has to run it's course. They will probably keep you a few days after he IS well to monitor him. They did with our little guy anyway. Our little guy does have asthma but it's a mild case and I have never been told it was related to RSV.
Avatar n tn From what I understand, RSV is a viral infection that is usually present in hospitals. My son has had it while in the hospital for an extended period. As with any just about every virus, RSV is infectius. RSV is not a life time infection or causes any lasting effect, as far as I know. Your grandson probubly had a feveral seizure. As a parent, I don't know for sure, but this is what I have thought RSV is.
Avatar f tn My son had RSV when he was 4 Months old, he was in the hospital for I believe 2 nights because his oxygen was low... It pro pack took him a week or so to get better...
490418 tn?1209523379 He did get Synagis until his third winter. He was in the hospital for most of RSV season his first two years and did not get RSV. The next year we were denied Synagis due to the cost. He ended up on a vent in the PICU for a week. The following winter he spent 10 days in the hospital with RSV. This year he spent the first week in PICU and the next two week on Eccmo. He died on his 6th birthday. We never even heard of RSV IG. Who is a candidate for this med?
1690584 tn?1340297472 Savannah was admitted to the hospital for RSV, Bronchitis, Ear Infection. Stayed until Saturday but was released earlier then she should have been due to Christmas. Avatar m tn m wondering how long he could possibly stay in the hospital.
Avatar f tn A teacher that I work with has a baby in the hospital with RSV. She emailed that if you baby has a cough with no fever, please take them to get checked for RSV. My DD is 6 months old and has had a chronic cough for a long time. It seems to get better and then starts all over again. I have taken to the doctor for it three times, the last time a week ago today. Everytime they check her really good and say it is just drainage from a cold. She has not had any fever and feels good.
1189189 tn?1264549687 At times antiviral drugs are given if the symptoms do not settle down. In serious cases the patient is admitted in hospital and kept on supportive measures such as ventilators. It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. Please consult your physician if you are not improving. Take care!
Avatar n tn My son is going to be 2 months old soon and a couple of days after he was born they told me he has RSV, i have been in and out of the hospital so many times and he dose not seem to be getting any better. 765043 tn?1234583003 A cyst in his lever because of abuse from the hospital. The tube that was in his tummy got misplaced to his lever and eventually he formed a cyst. He has had to blood transfusions. One at the nicu after birth because of his anemia. One here because of the same reason. I'm hoping once he gets out of this he'll grow out of it. Like he was never sick. Im afraid he'll develope some kind of lung disease. My question to all this is that he got better. His lungs were clouded and cleared.
Avatar f tn His fever is gone now but he is still breathing fast and still very raspy! The hospital told me that RSV would not affect his appetite it was because his nose was stuffed up???? How long does it usually take for his breathing to get better?? I always thought that most babies with RSV were hospitalized. Isnt there something else they could give him to improve his breathing. So confused and worried. It seems the hospital thinks this is no big deal.
372328 tn?1214776427 She did have RSV and needed nebulizer treatments to help treat it. Had I waited another day or so, we probably would have ended up in the hospital. Don't mean to scare you, but RSV can be very serious in kids under 2.
Avatar f tn They said she had RSV, they could either suck some snot out and test it and tell me she has RSV, or just tell me she has it and the treatment will be the same - her cough was also barky (croup like) at night, so she told me to wrap her up and sit outside and let her breathe in the cold air. I hope its not RSV, but if it is a mild case and isnt in her lungs and she is eating and drinking ok, they probably wont do anything anyway.
Avatar n tn My son is 10.5 mths old, for the last 12 weeks he has been suffering from RSV...for the first month we were give a bronchodialter, which helped for 2.5 weeks....finally after much persistance the pediatrician pegged him as having Irritable Airway Disease as well. Is this RAD? We have him on a few inhalers...what should we be looking for or is there any other treatment available? He has all of the symptoms of RSV...
377012 tn?1283965435 My son has been sick for 2 weeks now and his RSV test came back positive yesterday....his doctor did a chest x-ray and found patches on his lungs and thought that it may be pneumonia! he has to go back today at 2pm for more tests and if it is pneumonia then he has to be sent almost 2 hours away to see another doctor because she is unable to admit him to the hospital.......how is rsv different from pneumonia!!!????
Avatar f tn The hospital told her its from in the air and the people she has been around and that there the carriers to this illness. Keep your children away from anyone thats sick or has a cold but she also cant go around people that smoke... Our little granddaughter emma is very sick and cant come home till the oxygen is off and everytime they try to take it off the oxygen level drops and her sugar also drops. How do you help her and my daughter and her boyfriend cope with this aweful illness.
Avatar n tn Why would our pediatrician prescribe him xopenex, pulmicort, and amoxicillin all in the first visit and BEFORE the mucus sample lab test results even came back?
Avatar f tn we were back in er and stayed at hospital again for wheezing chest x ray clear, rsv neg.. heading to pulm doc on friday. do you have any suggestions or questions i should ask??? i am in a fog i just want my happy non wheezing baby back.
Avatar f tn In the end, after begging the coroner to figure out what went wrong, and after enlightening him with the problems we had had with that sitter, and our suspicions with her, he basically told us she kept the same story, and that everything checked out fine in the autopsy, except that they found RSV on her brain. By the way, the police never contacted us, and to our knowledge, never questioned the sitter. I was never given my daughter's actual time of death, either.
