Avatar m tn it proves nicely that even high doses of RSV are unlikely to have any effect on HCV replication in vivo in man. How so? On page 187 Fig 2 you will see the effect of increasing micromols of RSV on fold replication of the HCV construct, readout by the luciferase assay. On page 188 similarlily in fig 4 the effect on the subgenomic replicon cells. RSV in micromols/Liter vs fold replication enhancement. Good work, we assume.
Avatar n tn Beta blockers like metoprolol and ACE inhibitors like benazepril have been been shown to be of value in patients with congestive heart failure as well as for hypertension. Simvastatin is of value for patients with both diabetes and heart disease. Talk to your doctor and changes can be made to minimize the side effects.
Avatar n tn It usually manifest itself as a cold in adults and older children, but can cause serious problems in infants. RSV can cause lower respitory infections, breathing problems, pneumonia or even death. According to statistics, over 125,000 infants are hospitalized annually with Respiratory Syncytial Virus, resulting in more than 500 deaths. RSV can be contracted by placing your hand in your mouth after you have come in contact with an infected person or surface.
Avatar m tn Eighty years old is not that old. I would suggest he seek out a physician that specializes in geriatric medicine. It appears he needs a look-see by another physician.
Avatar f tn My 11 week has rsv .. He was full term .. Has any other mother had this in a infant ..
593530 tn?1263847957 I brought Brody to his pediatrician last week because he was very congested. After a nose swab was tested it was determined that he has RSV. Since it's a virus it can't be treated with antibiotics, so she instructed me to get a cool mist humidifier and keep his nasal pasages clear by using saline solution. The only symptom he's had is the congestion. There's no fever, coughing, mucous coming out, etc.
Avatar n tn My son is going to be 2 months old soon and a couple of days after he was born they told me he has RSV, i have been in and out of the hospital so many times and he dose not seem to be getting any better. I have read everybody stories and How they lost their loved ones and i am so scared that it might happen to my son. Please is there anything that i can do to prevent this from getting worse???
Avatar f tn My son had rsv and the hospital kept him and thankfully we were released in a few hours because his breathing was better.its scary to do that at home, honestly they should of kept him he's only an infant ! Please contact a doctor I honestly don't think he should be home my son was two months old when he had it, and my husband ask if we can go home with him and they told us some pretty scary stuff .
Avatar m tn While this and other clinical experience have not identified differences in responses between the elderly and younger patients, greater sensitivity of some older individuals cannot be ruled out. Metformin hydrochloride - The initial and maintenance dosing of Metformin should be conservative in patients with advanced age, due to the potential for decreased renal function in this population.
Avatar n tn Dehydration and/or the risk of renal failure may be exacerbated in geriatric patients, especially those with polyuria, oliguria, autoimmune diseases, diabetes, or pre-existing dehydration from previous iopamidol. Adequate hydration is recommended before and following administration of iopamidol. The elderly may be more sensitive to the effects of iopamidol on thyroid function. Iodine-induced thyrotoxicosis may occur 4 to 12 weeks following contrast radiography.
Avatar f tn Hi, As Claire mentioned above, our Senior Health Community encompasses Geriatric Depression support. If Geriatric Depression is able to grow within the Senior Health Community, we may be able to split it out as a new community. Please feel free to drop me a PM - we'd enjoy hearing from you and can exchange ideas!
1368291 tn?1299629804 Saturday he was having lots of nasal congestion and coughing so I took him to the ER. He tested positive for RSV so the last few days have been scary. We are doing a cool mist humidifier with eucalyptus oil at night, albuterol breathing treatments and keeping his nose suctioned out. I hope he gets better soon but I did learn that apparently you cant trust family to let you know...
229857 tn?1319029907 What can I do in the meantime? I have been using the little noses drops and suctioning everything out. Oh he also has a little rash on his face which I know is common in babies that have a cold or other type of infection... the thing im worried about is RSV??? I think thats what its called. I read online it usually shows up between 4-6 week olds and he is 4 weeks... also im worried about the dark yellow mucus being an infection like pneunomia or something.. Gosh I hate the internet!!
Avatar m tn (7) Another study followed patients for 9 months, and found that selenium supplementation reduced thyroid peroxidase antibody levels in the blood, even in selenium sufficient patients.
Avatar n tn The issue with COVID is not just that patients are not getting enough oxygen. In most cases the lungs are filled with fluid. No amount of oxygen will allow fluid-filled lungs to absorb the oxygen.
Avatar f tn t deal in mental illness, they deal in neurological problems. My psychiatrist specializes in geriatric patients in addition to her regular practice, and I can't imagine her ever giving Paxil to one because it's such a difficult med to monitor even for the young and articulate, let alone somebody with Alzheimer's. Often these drugs are given more to control the patient's difficult behaviors than to treat the patient for any problem they may have.
Avatar m tn Is your grandmother being seen by a doctor who specializes in geriatric patients? If not, that may be something to think about. The only medication you listed that I could imagine might be an issue is the Seroquel, the other medications shouldn't really cause a behavioral/mood issue. You need to contact your gram's doctor and ask him/her to review her medication regimen and assess her. Are you sure she is taking the proper doses? Are you overseeing her meds?
Avatar f tn I would also recommend having a Vet do tests to find out the cause.. Your horse is considered geriatric and careful monitoring in general would be needed in this case, but since he has had a history of cancer in addition to his age, extra care would be recommended. Let us know what the results are.
Avatar f tn I took my 4 week old to the ER and they told me he has RSV. They just gave me a paper on it, They didn't really tell me what to do except suction out his nose. I read the paper ad it told me that in mild disease that no specific treatment is necessary. So I guess he is only a mild case, but I don't know how to tell if he is getting worse. I read on another site that family history of asthma puts him at a higher risk for becoming a severe case. I am know wen he is getting worse?
Avatar n tn The Unversity of Missouri in Columbia is excellent, in Saint Louis Washington University and St. Louis University are excellent. I'm very opinionated but in Kansas City in my opinion my group Discover Vision Centers is excellent two of our MDs edit medical journals and several lecture world wide, others have written medical textbook chapters.
Avatar n tn My psychiatrist practices geriatric psychiatry and only uses this med for patients who have stopped eating since it makes most people want to eat. I thought serzone was taken off the market for causing liver disease, although the generic is still available. Maybe it's back. An alternative to serzone is wellbutrin.
1347128 tn?1333810296 her doctor told me to get a humidifier and put it in the same room as the baby and turn or you could also turn on the hot water and get it steamy in there while you have your baby in there and that could help also, i did both of those thing with her and it helped alot!! also use salt water and squeeze it up your childs nose and suction it all out and do that before and after feedings and before bed also and when your baby wakes up . if your baby does not clear up in like 2.
377012 tn?1283965435 (crying all night) so i left out some info! in Oct. he was diagnosed with RSV and then again at the end of Nov.-first of Dec. he had it again! unfortunately RSV can take up to 8 weeks before it is released from your system hence why he had it twice in 2 months....the reason i thought it could be pneumonia is because of the way is chest moves when he breathes and because RSV can cause pneumonia to be set up in your system since your system is low especially in toddlers!
1346146 tn?1299360497 Well Lauren has rsv! My pedi also said adults can get it to!?!? Didn't know that. I guess that explains this cold type stuff I have. So she is on breathing treatments. We caught it early enough so hopefully it wont be so bad. Dh is also sick, my oldest son broke his foot last week at school and is in a nonwalking cast, and Lauren also bit my left breast last week while nursing and it's infected so im on antibiotics and she can't nurse from that side!
Avatar f tn She has attempted to strangle the group home staff, has smacked the other residents, is tearing apart everything she can get her hands on,(actually pulled the top off a dresser!), spits her medications in the faces of those who try to give them to her, sits on other patients beds and urinates on them (purposefully), and frequently exit seeks -bolting past anyone if the door is open..and has paranoid behaviors (They're trying to kill me! We must hide!) There's much, much, more...
