Common Questions and Answers about Rsv in a 6 month old

rsv

372328 tn?1214776427 I would suggest you take her in now, just to rule out RSV (peak season runs from Oct -March). It's a quick nose swab test. When my daughter was 9 mo old, she had similar symptoms and I wish i hadn't waited so long. She did have RSV and needed nebulizer treatments to help treat it. Had I waited another day or so, we probably would have ended up in the hospital. Don't mean to scare you, but RSV can be very serious in kids under 2.
Avatar n tn s sounds worse than it really is, I know it can really hurt small babies, especially preemies, but a 6 month old is tougher than you think. Hopefully your little one doesn't have it and is just congested, but either way, hope she feels better and clears up soon.
Avatar n tn I have 22 month old that has been healthy and always got the flu shot. Since she was born, we have always noticed her feet and fingers would get bluish in color and cold. I was told she would grow out of this. Now going on 2 yrs here this March, the more she is active, jumping, singing, and running, her lips and fingers are cold as ice and blue in color.
Avatar f tn We took him to the emergency room because his 6 month old cousin was hospitalized with RSV they are around eachother everyday so I wanted him to get checked. He has increased markings on his bronchi that look like an infection but they did not give him anything for it. He's had his cough for about a week. Very congested, is there really nothing they can give him?
Avatar f tn I am not sure my now 6 year old son, Chris got a severe case of RSV when he was 5 weeks old. I also had a 20 month at home with a "cold" My 20 month old, Gary was never tested for RSV because he wasn't in distress. Chris got it again when he was 2 1/2 years old and it was the middle of summer.
765043 tn?1234583003 Im so scared. My son is on life support. 5 days now. He gets better and than all of a sudden he gets worse. Is there neone out there who can help. His lungs are all clouded. And his oxegyn went as low as 64. or 61. They had him on the bag until it stayed up on his own with the ventilater. Does anyone have any input. Please pray everyone!
Avatar n tn My 6 month old son has been wheezing since he was six weeks old. He sounds as if he has a stuffy nose, but there is nothing there, and he also has a hacking cough. He is usually very quiet when sleeping, and when he is awake his breathing is very heavy and noisy. When he first got this, the pediatrician admitted him to the hospital and tested him for RSV & FLU, both neg. She put him in a mist tank, which did not seem to help.
Avatar n tn chris has some medical issues, respiratory, cardiac and narrowing of his throat. when he was 5 weeks old and 2 1/2 years old he had RSV and he was always in the hospital with pneumonia and bron. he also has asthma. We had taken him to the allergist since his cardiologist was convinced he had allergies (they also can run bloodwork for allgeries) that was negative, however more concerning the the allergist/immune doctor was he had pneumonia several times already.

Avatar n tn My 23 month old was hospitalized 2 weeks ago with RSV and pneumonia. He slept 12 hours at night prior to his illness. The 3 nights before he was hospitalized he was so sick he would only sleep in my arms day or night- In the hospital this was the same. After he was discharged from the hospital he will sleep in his crib but wakes up freq. crying out for us until we have to go in to him and rock him back to sleep which sometimes takes FOREVER!! What do I do????
Avatar n tn My grandson at 6 months had RSV and hospitalized. Since then he gets sick nearly on a monthly basis with colds that settle in his lungs and ends up with RSV and/or pnuemonia. This year so far: January 09 he had double ear infection was on antibiotics. Feb. 09 he had RSV and pnuemonia right lung spend night in ICU due low oxygen saturation and he was on antiobiotics. Mar 09 he has pnuemonia in the left lung and is on antibiotics.....AGAIN.
Avatar n tn From what I understand, RSV is a viral infection that is usually present in hospitals. My son has had it while in the hospital for an extended period. As with any just about every virus, RSV is infectius. RSV is not a life time infection or causes any lasting effect, as far as I know. Your grandson probubly had a feveral seizure. As a parent, I don't know for sure, but this is what I have thought RSV is.
Avatar n tn I don't have preemies, my sons were born big and healthy, but we still had battles with RSV and it was awful. We are still paying for it with Cameron, he's 6 months old and very sick right now. He got sick his first 2 days at daycare. The gagging and choking cough was so bad and scary, his oxygen levels got pretty low and we were very lucky to keep him out of the hospital. We had to go in daily to have him monitored and I didn't sleep much at all.
490418 tn?1209523379 He was in the hospital for most of RSV season his first two years and did not get RSV. The next year we were denied Synagis due to the cost. He ended up on a vent in the PICU for a week. The following winter he spent 10 days in the hospital with RSV. This year he spent the first week in PICU and the next two week on Eccmo. He died on his 6th birthday. We never even heard of RSV IG. Who is a candidate for this med? I just feel like there is a piece the puzzle missing.
Avatar n tn The medications used most often for the treatment of this problem are bronchodilators (ventolin is one of these) and steroids. Using inhalers in 10-month-old children is very difficult. They do not inhale very well and thus the medication is not delivered very well to the lungs. If the wheezing continues to be a problem, I would suggest seeing a specialist who will most likely recommend using a nebulizer.
1347128 tn?1333810296 My baby had RSV at the beginning of november, he was hospitalized for 3 days 2 nights. he was 6 weeks old. But since then, he has a phlegm sound and boogers, he has trouble breathing speacially during the night and when he wakes up. He uses humedifier all the time, and I am just sad that he doesnt get any better today his pediatrician told me he is negative for RSV, what else can I do to help him get better?
Avatar f tn ve been reading your post and researching a bit to see if I can be of help, as your child sounds quite ill in his lower respiratory tract. The RSV can be a serious virus in young children. Were you told much about it? Did the pulmonologist (hopefully you're seeing a specialist!) explain why he/she thinks your son was having these difficulties? Usually a full term baby - even one with asthma doesn't have so many other respiratory disorders.
Avatar n tn Infants born premature; Infants less than 6 weeks old; Infants with congenital heart disease; those with chronic lung issues; and immunodeficiency.
Avatar f tn My 11 week has rsv .. He was full term .. Has any other mother had this in a infant ..
Avatar f tn Doctor, I was hoping you may be able to help shed some light with regards to the following. My 6 week old daughter was released from hospital 10 days ago after spending 6 days in there due to RSV which developed into Bronchiolitis. She stopped breathing twice in the early stages of the illness while in hospital. Her heart and breathing was monitored at the time and it was noted that it would dip down into the 80's and then come back up to 140's in a matter of seconds.
