Common Questions and Answers about Rsv guidelines for synagis

rsv

284738 tn?1283106819 he just got his 3rd and last synagis until rsv season starts back up again in october. the good news is, rsv season is almost over. unfortunately, our little ones got it at the very end. :( i know it's still out there even when it's not in season, but it's not as bad... hope your little one gets better soon!!
Avatar n tn The Synagis Vaccine can help protect your little ones from the effects of RSV. The Synagis shot is injected into the leg muscle, once a month, during RSV season, which last from November thru April. The vaccine has been shown to be effective in preventing and/or reducing the severity of RSV infections and the number of hospitalizations each year.
551885 tn?1300383822 Does anyone else have to bring their preemies for Synagis shots still? Last month was supposed to be the last but they called a couple of weeks ago and told us that half the kids that are coming in sick are testing positive for RSV and if Cassidy got it she would go back to the NICU again so I guess this month will be the last.
Avatar n tn I'd wait too until the flu season passes.....it's really bad this year. I'd wait until mid to late April. I had a preemie in August (6 weeks early)......I didn't let ANYONE see her until she was two months old. That was in October..... Does your baby receive a monthly shot called "synagis" that is an RSV vaccine? My little girl does and I think that has helped her not have one cold at all this winter!
163557 tn?1244112942 in the PICU.. for RSV! He gets his synagis every month, so it really is a pretty mild case of it. They are just monitoring him just in case. I think he'll be able to come back home today. The nurse yesterday said she's never seen an RSV kid that healthy. He barely even has anything for them to suction out of him. And he hasn't required oxygen or anything. Hopefully he already hit his peak (which is supposed to be between days 3 and 5).
Avatar m tn My son was a 24 week micro-preemie. He was intubated for approximately 5 weeks before graduating to bi-pap. He ultimately was able to come home after 100 days and required no supplimental oxygen. After being home for approx. 3 months he developed an inspiratory stridor with some retraction. He has 2 hemanginomas so ENT did upper scope to R/O one in the throat. They saw nothing. He was presented to the ER when his breathsounds worsened and it appeared he was in distress.
Avatar f tn I just had my son at 33 weeks 6 days. If anyone on here has had preemies before my question is how long after you brought baby home did you stay in the house? I didn't get a definite answer from my doctor or the hospital. He is now almost 3 weeks and doing well just above 6 pounds. I've heard other moms say right away is okay another said one year!!! I have errands and appointments plus my 5 year old has to be taken and picked up from school during the week.
Avatar n tn ) My average body temp is always below what guidelines declare is normal. If I am feverish but below temp guidelines am I contagious to anyone whose body temp is higher than mine?
593530 tn?1263847957 my daugter is 4 weeks old and she got RSV. She was hospitalized for 3 days and was being monitored for her oxygen levels. She is still coughing a lot and its hard to watch her. Doc said it can take upto a month or 2 to fully recover.
Avatar n tn Cam was at 89, but he held consistent and only dropped a couple times, so after a few hours of being watched, we were allowed to take him home and had to neb every 4 hours, even when he was sleeping, but we got no sleep anyway. He is also on steroids for his breathing and a steroid inhaler, and Singulair. How scary for you guys, I hope your little one is feeling better soon and home well. If the Dr. and nurses feel good about him, I bet he's doing okay.
Avatar n tn My son is going to be 2 months old soon and a couple of days after he was born they told me he has RSV, i have been in and out of the hospital so many times and he dose not seem to be getting any better. I have read everybody stories and How they lost their loved ones and i am so scared that it might happen to my son. Please is there anything that i can do to prevent this from getting worse???
Avatar f tn My 11 week has rsv .. He was full term .. Has any other mother had this in a infant ..
Avatar f tn My son had RSV when he was 4 Months old, he was in the hospital for I believe 2 nights because his oxygen was low... It pro pack took him a week or so to get better...
1368291 tn?1299629804 Saturday he was having lots of nasal congestion and coughing so I took him to the ER. He tested positive for RSV so the last few days have been scary. We are doing a cool mist humidifier with eucalyptus oil at night, albuterol breathing treatments and keeping his nose suctioned out. I hope he gets better soon but I did learn that apparently you cant trust family to let you know...
Avatar f tn She emailed that if you baby has a cough with no fever, please take them to get checked for RSV. My DD is 6 months old and has had a chronic cough for a long time. It seems to get better and then starts all over again. I have taken to the doctor for it three times, the last time a week ago today. Everytime they check her really good and say it is just drainage from a cold. She has not had any fever and feels good. Last night her cough seemed a little worse, but she still feels great.
Avatar m tn In the paper in the American Journal for Clinical Nutrition , published ahead of print March 31st 2010 you find on the forth page in fig 2 the graph of plasma concentrations of RSV as a function of time in these humans to be dose dependent and having for 500mg (quite a high dose!) found the peak concentration of original RSV at 90min after dosing to be 14.4 nanograms/ml or 14.4 micrograms/liter. Knowing the molecular weight of RSV to be 228g/Mol this translates into 14.
Avatar f tn Finally a few days ago i took him in again to the ER n they found out he has a virus newborns have been getting its Called Rsv n if they would have tested it before they would have found it i was So pissed!!! So now today we got out of the childerns hospital they sent him home with oxygen but to me he still seems bad but they that he was Fine!!
Avatar f tn Do you think she could still have RSV? My reason for not going back to the doctor is that where I live, flu and a serious stomach virus are really bad. I don't want to take her in and expose her to those things unless absolutely necessary.
Avatar f tn My daughter has been sick for three and a half weeks now. Fever throwing up and diarrea for first week, then fever and diarrea the next week. Then fever up to 104 and deydration the next took her to the ER they put her on IVs but could not find whats wrong. She has a history of RSV could this be what it is again. I dont know what o do?
Avatar f tn My baby has just turned 6 month old, and I took her to the doctor because she was wheezing and had a runny nose. THey tested her for RSV and i did not hear anything because of the holiday but they just called today and her RSV test came back possitive. They already prescribed her an inhaler is there anything else I can do. She is coughing ALOT.
Avatar f tn If I were u I would take him to the hospital. Its better for them to catch it early before it gets worse if it is rsv. Trust me they will put your baby first before anybody else that's there. Thats what happened to me.
Avatar m tn Infants may have different or additional symptoms, includingirritability, decreased activity, sleepiness, breathing difficulties (apnea), andpoor feeding. It is also possible for a child to have RSV without a fever, as well.
Avatar f tn My six month old has RSV! He was tested positive for it two days ago. He is not eating much at all and on amoxicillin. His fever is gone now but he is still breathing fast and still very raspy! The hospital told me that RSV would not affect his appetite it was because his nose was stuffed up???? How long does it usually take for his breathing to get better?? I always thought that most babies with RSV were hospitalized. Isnt there something else they could give him to improve his breathing.
Avatar f tn I saw your post and you seem quite knowledgable so I thought i would give you a shout. my baby was diagnosed with rsv 3 wks ago was hospitalized for 1 day to observe breathing (basically giving me a piece of mind) was given pred. and put on albuterol neb treatments. Went on feb 18th clean bill of health. Now ...not so clean... we were back in er and stayed at hospital again for wheezing chest x ray clear, rsv neg.. heading to pulm doc on friday.
Avatar f tn When my 4 year old had RSV when he was 5 weeks old, also on a vent for 11 days, (he had RSV a second time when he was 2 1/2 in the hospital 5 days no vent.) they said he could end up having asthma. Every time we go see the pulmonologist *sorry if I spelled it wrong, they ask how often does he couh at night. None, doen't cough in the day time either only when he is sick. So from what I was told and understand it does sound like he has asthma.
1347128 tn?1333810296 My 3 month baby had RSV when he was 6 weeks old, but since then, he has a phlegm sound, that is always there.
