Common Questions and Answers about Rsv disease child

Avatar n tn My wife had our first child two weeks ago and he was diagnosed with SVT - WPW. He's being taken care of by an amazing team of doctors at Children's Hospital in Boston. My question is more about dealing with his condition once we get home. My wife and I are going back to work and we're concerned about sending him to day care. What have people done? Any recommendations/advice? My son will be in the hospital at least another week to 10 days before becoming an outpatient.
Avatar f tn My 4 year old son coughs constantly at night. It's a dry, hacking cough which does not bring up any phlegm. It doesn't sound "sick" at all--it's the type of cough I wouldn't even notice except that he does it so frequently. During the day, often when he laughs or cries, it turns into the same dry, hacking cough. Otherwise, I haven't noticed that he does much coughing during the day. Does this sound like asthma? He has never wheezed or had difficulty breathing.

Avatar f tn I took my 4 week old to the ER and they told me he has RSV. They just gave me a paper on it, They didn't really tell me what to do except suction out his nose. I read the paper ad it told me that in mild disease that no specific treatment is necessary. So I guess he is only a mild case, but I don't know how to tell if he is getting worse. I read on another site that family history of asthma puts him at a higher risk for becoming a severe case. I am know wen he is getting worse?
Avatar f tn I went to my 18 wk sonogram yesterdayand told doc my 14 month old has rsv. A respitory virus and that now i have cold like symptoms and a rash on my face. She said i coukd have parvo and they drew blood to find out for sure but i don't have results yet. She says my baby can become anemic and can need a blood transfusion while in the womb. I am so terrified.

Avatar f tn RSV is a resportory disease that starts as a common cold and then starts to shot down the resportory system very scary. We finally found out what it was that my daughter had. She had strep in the stomach and intestines. Instead of the strep staying in her throat she swallowed it. She got worse that ever after I posted this, so I brought her to a different hospital and they figured it out. thanks for responding.
Avatar n tn This helps the child from getting ill, It sound like if your child did not get these shots he might be getting symptoms of RSV. Here are some I know of: having a simple clear runny nose and occasional cough that can be treated at home, to severe difficulty breathing that may require hospitalization. Other symptoms might include a low-grade fever, sore throat, headache, and irritability.
Avatar f tn I'm 18 years old and I have been having chest pains since I was a child. It is sharp pains and it hurts really bad. I usually can't move around when it happened and It makes it hard for me to breathe. It doesn't happen every day but it is often. It usually comes on when I am angry, stressed, upset, or sometimes I could just be doing nothing.
Avatar n tn My son is going to be 2 months old soon and a couple of days after he was born they told me he has RSV, i have been in and out of the hospital so many times and he dose not seem to be getting any better. I have read everybody stories and How they lost their loved ones and i am so scared that it might happen to my son. Please is there anything that i can do to prevent this from getting worse???
593530 tn?1263847957 I brought Brody to his pediatrician last week because he was very congested. After a nose swab was tested it was determined that he has RSV. Since it's a virus it can't be treated with antibiotics, so she instructed me to get a cool mist humidifier and keep his nasal pasages clear by using saline solution. The only symptom he's had is the congestion. There's no fever, coughing, mucous coming out, etc.
1368291 tn?1299629804 Saturday he was having lots of nasal congestion and coughing so I took him to the ER. He tested positive for RSV so the last few days have been scary. We are doing a cool mist humidifier with eucalyptus oil at night, albuterol breathing treatments and keeping his nose suctioned out. I hope he gets better soon but I did learn that apparently you cant trust family to let you know...
Avatar f tn mouth disease twice, ear infections on at least 2 seperate occasions, and now this. She also has a lump in the back of her head that they expected to go away within 6 mths., that will be 2 yrs. ago this July. Now they are thinking it is just a cyst. She routinely has swollen lymph nodes on the rt. side of her neck, but they feel that too is normal because of her fighting her infections.
Avatar f tn Is oxygen stats were 96 when they r normaly 100. the docs did a exam and a culture from his nose for RSV. after a few hours they had us go home and I was told to keep fluids in him and fever down. I got a call an hour later saying he has RVS but he will be fine. Sunday came and my son still had fever and was drinking but not a lot. He was still coughing and sneezing and he did have wheezing. he wnet to bed that night and never woke up he died some time in the early morning.
Avatar m tn I have a four month old son who got RSV along with the whole household in early February. We live at altitude (7200) feet, but the baby did well--- one night of observation in the hospital, where his O2 sats were 96-97 when he was being held or was upright, but would fall when sleeping or laying down into the mid-80s. So, he went on oxygen. Two months later he is still failing every overnight oxygen study in order to get him off nighttime oxygen.
Avatar f tn ve been reading your post and researching a bit to see if I can be of help, as your child sounds quite ill in his lower respiratory tract. The RSV can be a serious virus in young children. Were you told much about it? Did the pulmonologist (hopefully you're seeing a specialist!) explain why he/she thinks your son was having these difficulties? Usually a full term baby - even one with asthma doesn't have so many other respiratory disorders.
Avatar n tn Jessi, I was a sick kid, sick all the time. I developed an autoimmune disease as a child and nearly died because my immune system was so weak. Then as an adult, I developed another autoimmune disease. I would recommend you see a new doctor and get things checked out just to be on the safe side. If his immune system is that bad he could easily catch something VERY bad. In the meantime, search around for some ideas of foods and vitamins to help boost his immune system naturally.
Avatar n tn they did several echos on him for the first few months of his life, i was told this is to monitor him I do want to make a suggestion and you really need to talk to your daughters cardiologist about this, there is an illness and I am not trying to scare you, but there is an illness out there called RSV, it is a cold in you and I and healthy children.
Avatar f tn He has pneumonia every other month (since birth), he has also had bronchiolitis (without RSV), bronchitis, H1N1, and most currently RSV. When he was two we removed his tonsil and adenoids in hopes to help his asthma symptoms. While it did decrease the amount of sinus infections he had, it did nothing to help any other area. He is on Advair, 115/21 two puffs twice daily, and Allegra (for unknown allergies).
Avatar f tn Neg strep and throat culture. I do not think this is viral related. We will be see a infectious disease doctor soon but the wait is awful.
1347128 tn?1333810296 My 3 month baby had RSV when he was 6 weeks old, but since then, he has a phlegm sound, that is always there.
