Common Questions and Answers about Rsv disease child

rsv

Avatar m tn Can RSV cause cardiac arrest in a child with passed myocarditis and would he qualify to recieve rsv shot to prevent him from getting it.
Avatar n tn Reactive airway disease (RAD) simply means that a child is coughing and usually wheezing following some type of exposure. The most likely exposure to cause this in young children is a viral infection. The most common viral cause of wheezing in young children is the Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV). This is contagious, but is most common in children less than 2 years of age.
Avatar n tn HI MY CHILD WAS RECENTLY DIAGNOSED WITH AUTISTIC SPECTRUM DISORDER (ASD), BUT THE NEUROLOGIST ALSO TOLD ME THAT THE MRI SHOWED BRAIN SCARRING. I AM TERRIBLY CONCERNED FOR MY CHILD. I AM CURRENTLY AWAITING A SECOND OPINION. BUT WHAT KIND OF DISEASE COULD BRAIN SCARRING BE? HE HASN'T HAD A BRAIN INJURY HE ONLY HAD RSV WHEN HE WAS A NEWBORN OTHER THEN THAT HE IS RELATIVELY HEALTHY.
Avatar n tn Reactive Airways Disease (RAD) is a state when a child has been wheezing and the cause is not necessarily defined. When this is short term associated with a particular virus, it is RSV. When this lasts for a longer period, it is often called asthma. The medications used most often for the treatment of this problem are bronchodilators (ventolin is one of these) and steroids. Using inhalers in 10-month-old children is very difficult.
192918 tn?1199451179 My 9 mo old was in the hospital last night because she got a cold that moved into her chest. The congestion was making it hard for her to breathe. She was diagnosed with reactive airway disease (RAD), which I guess is similar to asthma, but since they can't test for asthma at this age they call it RAD. Anyway, this is the second time since September that she's been in the hospital for this. Poor kid can't get a common cold without having problems breathing...
Avatar n tn I just took my 3 month old to the doctor and was told he has Reactive Airway Disease. This is my first child and I have never heard of this before. I understand it is something like asthma. Anyone who knows about this please let me know what I have to look forward to...if this type of thing continues or if there is something I can do to help cure it or at least relieve him of some of the symptoms. Still no clue what caused it. But wondering what all it entails. Thank you!!
Avatar n tn My wife had our first child two weeks ago and he was diagnosed with SVT - WPW. He's being taken care of by an amazing team of doctors at Children's Hospital in Boston. My question is more about dealing with his condition once we get home. My wife and I are going back to work and we're concerned about sending him to day care. What have people done? Any recommendations/advice? My son will be in the hospital at least another week to 10 days before becoming an outpatient.
172411 tn?1287086265 Minimize the number of visitors into your home and in contact with your infant. Require any visitors and persons who come in contact with your infant to wash their hands before touching him or her. Do not allow sick people into your home or near your infant. Avoid crowded places, such as malls, carnivals, circuses, community events, etc. Do not smoke or allow anyone else to smoke in the presence of your infant or child. If possible, do not take your child to day care during RSV season.
Avatar n tn Acute bronchiolitis is mainly a viral disease. Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) causes more than 50% of cases. Bronchiolitis can also be due to parainfluenza, adenovirus, Mycoplasma, and occasionally other viruses. Recovery usually takes 7 to 10 days. Antibiotics do not treat viral infections. There is no evidence that bacteria are a cause. However this may be followed by a bacterial infection. Antibiotics do treat bacterial infections.
Avatar f tn My 4 year old son coughs constantly at night. It's a dry, hacking cough which does not bring up any phlegm. It doesn't sound "sick" at all--it's the type of cough I wouldn't even notice except that he does it so frequently. During the day, often when he laughs or cries, it turns into the same dry, hacking cough. Otherwise, I haven't noticed that he does much coughing during the day. Does this sound like asthma? He has never wheezed or had difficulty breathing.
Avatar n tn Some w/ ear inf., others with RSV, and some with bronchiolitis. My son has not been that sick. He has had two bouts of bronchiolitis (9mths apart)and a sinus infection, all in one year. He has had congestion that he can't get rid of and a cough ( not nearly as bad as others I have read). Although sometimes his cough makes him vomit. I guess my question is this.....Could he have been misdiagnosed? Or are there less severe symptoms that go along with RAD? Please help!
Avatar f tn My 11 week has rsv .. He was full term .. Has any other mother had this in a infant ..
Avatar f tn You should ask his doctor if there is any sign of lung damage from the RSV. The good news is that, in most instances of RSV resulting in frequent bouts of croup or other respiratory infection, that frequent lung problems with fever are eventually “outgrown.” Definitely seek answers to your questions from his doctor and, if not satisfied with the responses, request consultation with a pediatric lung specialist.
Avatar n tn t be able to hear this on a machine. My son that is three years old had rsv and chicken pox when he was 11 weeks old and had to have breathing treatments. Do you think maybe this damaged his lungs or am i an overparanoid mother. I have talked to my husband about this but he says that there is nothing wrong and that I am over protective. What do you think?
Avatar m tn Can Rsv cause cardiac arrest in a child who has past myocarditis? My son had viral myocarditis at 7 months and got rsv at 2 two weeks later passed away. And with his passed medical history should they have done something different like check his heart?

Avatar f tn She was my first born baby, she weighed 9lbs 6 1/2oz, and although I had to have a C-section due to my genetic bone disease, she was delivered only 4 days before my due date, on March 19, 1999, so she was full term. To make this long story as short as I can, we hired a state certified babysitter to watch her during the day while we worked. On April 4th of 2000 we went to pick her up and the babysitter left the room to go get her from a back bedroom.

765043 tn?1234583003 My son is 2 months. He has RSV. On top of that hehas pnemonia and Broncialitis. I am concerned. He has been on life support for a week exactly today. They have him on antibiotics for infection for phnemonia. ANd they say the rsv has to run it's course. But of course he is getting treatments. Such as pounding, suctionning after his IPV treatments. He had already been in the NICU after giving birth to him for 3 1/2 weeks. He had premaure lungs. 35 weeks old at birth. Jaundice. 1 apnea spell.
Avatar f tn My last child is 3 yo so I think he's still within the age range of being at risk for getting RSV. Since his older brother had it when he was 9 months old it was so scary I dislike the winters because I fear every cold/cough they get. Has the RSV season begun already? My kids just started getting this cough, all of them have been just fine even my 3 yo until an hour ago...7pm. He has been breathing rapidly (53) since then but he doesn't have a fever or crying.
Avatar n tn My husband and I lost our 4 1/2 month old daughter to RSV complicated by Bacterial Pneumonia. She was born healthy with no problems or complications. She had a cough since the first of October 2002. We took her to the doctor 3 times, Oct. 7th, Oct. 28 and & Dec. 26th. The doctor didn't treat her at all for any of the problems that we had advised him that she had been having. Her last visit was Dec . 26th. She had fever Christmas night and we took her the very next day.
Avatar n tn However your childs quality of life and being able to breath was probably the doctors concern. If a child is sick then the longer you wait to put them on meds the worse they can get and you will end up in the ER. I'm not the doctor so I don't know what he was looking for in the mucus sample test. Call the doctor.
