Avatar n tn My son is 10.5 mths old, for the last 12 weeks he has been suffering from RSV...for the first month we were give a bronchodialter, which helped for 2.5 weeks....finally after much persistance the pediatrician pegged him as having Irritable Airway Disease as well. Is this RAD? We have him on a few inhalers...what should we be looking for or is there any other treatment available? He has all of the symptoms of RSV...
Avatar n tn Hi! I feel for you. We were in the hospital twice with RSV last winter with our little guy. He has NO effects and the doctors have said nothing about long term effects. It's scary seeing them on oxygen and it's true, it just has to run it's course. They will probably keep you a few days after he IS well to monitor him. They did with our little guy anyway. Our little guy does have asthma but it's a mild case and I have never been told it was related to RSV.
Avatar f tn My 3 y.o. Daughter has been diagnosed with RAD after having RSV once and Pneumonia twice and in between all that she has had bronchitis and croup several times. It all happens if she is exposed to weather or anything that can cause allergies. She also gets a cold ten times worse than normal. This morning at 1, she started wheezing and coughing out of control. We spent the weekend at a reunion in the cold wind. I think that is what caused it. I think it's croup again.

192918 tn?1199451179 My boys too. Carson got pneumonia at 11 weeks, Cameron got RSV at 10 weeks. We were pretty much screwed from then on. Carson outgrew it by 3, the weren't sure he would due to family history and how bad it was. Around 2 it was much better and only triggered when he got sick, by 3 we were done and haven't had to neb anymore, he's 4 now and doing great. He's got a bad cold, but his airways are fine. Cameron is 9 months too and we have had a tough time with him.

Avatar f tn RSV is a resportory disease that starts as a common cold and then starts to shot down the resportory system very scary. We finally found out what it was that my daughter had. She had strep in the stomach and intestines. Instead of the strep staying in her throat she swallowed it. She got worse that ever after I posted this, so I brought her to a different hospital and they figured it out. thanks for responding.

Avatar f tn A few moments later, the babysitter walked up the hallway and stood at the doorway of the living room with my baby limp and blue in her arms, and all she said was that she found her face down in her pillow. She proceeded to lay my baby down on one of her couches, and she went and sat on the other one. By this time, my boyfriend and I were already hysterical and I remember screaming at the top of my lungs and falling on my knees to the floor. I knew it was already too late by that time.

Avatar n tn s blood stream in few areas of the lung because of the mucus. Unfortunately....THERE IS NO CURE FOR THIS DISEASE. It can progress into RSV. The only this you can do is supportive care. Bronchodilator medication is oftened prescribed to decrease the work of breating. Agressive bulb syringe suctioning must be done as often as every two hours to help keep your child's lungs clear. See your local ER and have a resp therapist teach you how to use a bulb syringe with saline to suction adequately.

Avatar n tn I just took my 3 month old to the doctor and was told he has Reactive Airway Disease. This is my first child and I have never heard of this before. I understand it is something like asthma. Anyone who knows about this please let me know what I have to look forward to...if this type of thing continues or if there is something I can do to help cure it or at least relieve him of some of the symptoms. Still no clue what caused it. But wondering what all it entails. Thank you!!

172411 tn?1287086265 RSV is a virus that is quite common at this time of the year - do whatever the doctor tells you and your little one will be good - untreated and uncared for, RSV can go into pneumonia, etc - its a lot of respiratory symptoms, similar to a cold or flu and seems to effect infants most commonly - probably because they are so small and immune systems are weak - do what the doctor says - and your little guy will be ok
Avatar n tn Reactive airway disease (RAD) simply means that a child is coughing and usually wheezing following some type of exposure. The most likely exposure to cause this in young children is a viral infection. The most common viral cause of wheezing in young children is the Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV). This is contagious, but is most common in children less than 2 years of age.
