Avatar f tn s still within the age range of being at risk for getting RSV. Since his older brother had it when he was 9 months old it was so scary I dislike the winters because I fear every cold/cough they get. Has the RSV season begun already? My kids just started getting this cough, all of them have been just fine even my 3 yo until an hour ago...7pm. He has been breathing rapidly (53) since then but he doesn't have a fever or crying. He's sitting down now watching a video now.
Avatar f tn A teacher that I work with has a baby in the hospital with RSV. She emailed that if you baby has a cough with no fever, please take them to get checked for RSV. My DD is 6 months old and has had a chronic cough for a long time. It seems to get better and then starts all over again. I have taken to the doctor for it three times, the last time a week ago today. Everytime they check her really good and say it is just drainage from a cold. She has not had any fever and feels good.
Avatar n tn There maybe a small increase in recurrent wheezing episodes in about 40% of children with previous RSV infections only if there was a strong family history of allergies and asthma. RSV may recur again but symptoms tend to be milder with subsequent re-infections This information is strictly for academic purposes and the patient's physician is ultimately responsible for the care and management .
Avatar n tn Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) is similar to the influenza virus that causes the flu. In infants and young children it can cause lung infections such as bronchiolitis or pneumonia. RSV infections happen over a period of time. They usually start with what appears as a cold and goes into a cough. Children respond in differing ways and differing levels of severity to this infection.

Avatar n tn s sick. Xopenex is used to treat and PREVENT bronchospasm in children and adults. Pulmicort is used to prevent and reduce symptoms (wheezing and shortness of breath) caused by asthma. This medication belongs to a class of drugs known as corticosteroids. It works directly in the lungs to make breathing easier by reducing the irritation and swelling of the airways. Amoxicillin is a antibiotic which a lot of times is used to treat bronchitis along with many other things.
Avatar n tn Right after she was born her doctor signed an order that she could get the RSV shots starting Nov. 1st. At her 1 month Appt on Sept 24th she weighed 7 pounds 8.4 ounces, and has been doing great, she will not be in daycare, we don't have any other kids, and her doctor didn't think she would need the shots because she is doing so great and insurance wouldn't cover them because we don't have 2 qualifing factors.
Avatar n tn Respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) is pretty much related to age. That is, as he ages, the frequency of RSV should progressively diminish.
Avatar n tn I would call the Dr's office and tell them she is getting worse and ask what they recommend. I've known a few children with RSV and they have always been hospitalized. Hope she gets better soon.
Avatar f tn I have a 2 1/2 month old granddaughter who was disgnosed with RSV pneumonia, my daughter took her to the er on sunday for really bad coughing and wheeezing. The ER doctor sent her home telling my daughter it was only upper respiratory she got worse a few days later and when she got to her peds doctor she was told her daughter has tested positive for rsv pneumonia and had to be admitted to the hospital ASAP. My daughter was so upset and didn't understand how she got this illness.
Avatar n tn The most common viral cause of wheezing in young children is the Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV). This is contagious, but is most common in children less than 2 years of age.
Avatar n tn you also might want to ask your cardiologist or primary doctor about if your little one should recieve the synagis vaccine. this is to help lesson the effects of RSV (this is a viral infection) most kids can fight it off, if they are healthy to begin with. i am not sure if your little one would qualify. I wouldn't see why not. this infection from what I was toldif it affects newborns who are premmeis have a heart condition, lung issues and a low immune system.

1690584 tn?1340297472 Savannah was admitted to the hospital for RSV, Bronchitis, Ear Infection. Stayed until Saturday but was released earlier then she should have been due to Christmas. Her oxygen levels were still not staying up high but she is now doing better. She does have a partial collapse of the right lung and they want to no check her heart due to some blue around the mouth.
Avatar n tn Once I took him in for a check up thinking I would finally have a good visit to the Dr., he had a double ear infection that I never even noticed. Thing is, he grew out of it and we were pretty lucky. Our Dr. never was concerned though, just told us that some kids just have bad luck in the beginning. I would listen to your Dr. though, he may have a reason to believe the test is necessary, if anything maybe it will rule out ms and put your mind at ease. Hope all is well.

Avatar f tn If a person does not have RSV can they cause an infant to get RSV just by having a common cold
Avatar n tn There are many children who have Reactive Airways Disease (RAD). Some of them stop their wheezing. Others continue and are called asthmatic, a form of RAD. It is hard to say why your son has had 3 courses of antibiotics. This could be due to three infections, or due to one infection that has never quite totally gone away and continues to cause problems. If you are concerned, it is fine to speak with your son's pediatrician about what is going on and your concerns.
