Common Questions and Answers about Rotavirus gastroenteritis symptoms

3227684 tn?1347373065 Hello everyone, I have always had the fear to vomit, which mainly implies fear to contract norovirus or rotavirus. I had gastroenteritis once during my childhood; since then, I didn't have it; at least, I didn't throw up. But the fear is always present, especially today, because I walked near a vomit pool on the floor of a public place. It was not very close to me; I was certainly at three to five meters from it. Is it possible that I catch the virus?
Avatar n tn Frequent watery stools with vomiting can be due to viruses like rotavirus, adenovirus, etc.The symptoms of viral gastroenteritis can mimic diarrhea caused by Salmonella species or Escherichia coli or parasites like Giardia lamblia. A clinical examination and investigations like blood counts, liver function tests and stool examination may be done. The most important of treating viral gastroenteritis is to prevent severe loss of fluids and prevent developing dehydration.

175861 tn?1428182413 Thank you for your response. I was recently diagnosed w/gastroenteritis (rotavirus, they think) as I had diarrhea some days, yellowish color, tho I still have it now (3rd week)--sometimes the diarrhea, sometimes not. Always yellowish. And more recently saw a white string like object in stool. Bout an inch long, not that skinny. From what I read, it doesn't sound like a worm. But I don't know what it could be. My primary doc said to go to the gastro doc again.

Avatar f tn You need to contact your local health care provider for the same. Rotarix is indicated for the prevention of rotavirus gastroenteritis caused by G1 and non-G1 types (G3, G4, and G9).It is given in two doses (1ml each by mouth) at an interval of four weeks. The first dose is recommended at 6 weeks of age but could be given as late as 20 weeks. The second dosage should be given no later than 24 weeks of age as Rotarix has not been studied in older infants.

Avatar m tn Hopefully somebody can shed some light on symptoms our 2.5 year old boy has been having - we are waiting to see a gastroenterologist. A brief history: Allergies include diary, egg and nuts. 2 months ago, he complained of a severe stomach ache which followed with 5-6 days of diarrhea - at least 3x/day of liquid or watery stools - pediatrician diagnosed him as having gastroenteritis (viral). Avatar n tn Blood transfusions are safe these days, you're stuck on the fear of a transfusion based on incidents where people acquired HIV early on in the epidemic. The blood supply is safe, your daughter has no HIV concerns. You need to listen to your daughter's doctor and seek some professional help for yourself to help you move on. It sounds like she has a stomach flu, which is in NO way related to HIV.

Avatar f tn Viral gastroenteritis symptoms may appear 1-3 days after you are infected and can range from mild to severe. Symptoms usually last just a day or two, but occasionally they may persist as long as 10 days. Because the symptoms are similar, it is easy to confuse diarrhea caused by viruses with diarrhea caused by bacteria (e.g., Clostridium difficile, salmonella, and E. coli) or parasites (e.g., giardia). If your symptoms persist, see your doctor for further workup and management.
