Avatar n tn Posted By Theresa on September 29, 1998 at 02:26:43: Please help, I have a friend who's two year old has had watery diarrhea off and on for almost a year. The diarrhea occurs every 1/2 to 1 hr, the doctors have run tests for yeast, parasites, etc. All negative. The child has been an antibiotics and diflucan, has been put on sterile water, etc. The stools are very abrasive and his skin integrity is damaged at this point. A couple of times the diarrhea stopped for approx.
Avatar n tn I've had diarrhea for about three days now with minor stomach cramps. I'm going about 7 times a day at least. I can't think of anything that would cause it. I've been making sure to stay hydrated, but can anybody tell me else i should do and what it might be? Thank you for your time.

My parents and a girl (who didnt eat any of the suspicious food) got sick that night. Me and a co-worker got sick on Sunday night, and then 2 other people got sick today. One other might be sick, but hasnt gotten the vomitting symptoms, only the chills and aches. I havent heard from any one else yet, there were about 25 people there.
Avatar n tn Oral rehydration solutions (such as Pedialyte) are available to replenish the fluid and electrolytes lost with the diarrhea. If the diarrhea persists you should see your primary care physician and have some stool samples sent to the lab to determine if a specific pathogen can be identified. I hope you feel better soon. Avatar n tn ve been through these with my 2 1/2 year old and some of them can take a very long time to clear. One that pops into mind is rotavirus. Fevers do not necessarily always accompany a virus. He should see a Dr. Also, make sure he is staying well hydrated. Food is less important then fluids. Juices, pedialight, even milk. Dehydration is always the biggest concern. Is he energetic or listless? That too can tell you alot. If he is listless and weak, then he should be seen right away.
Avatar n tn Frequent watery stools with vomiting can be due to viruses like rotavirus, adenovirus, etc.The symptoms of viral gastroenteritis can mimic diarrhea caused by Salmonella species or Escherichia coli or parasites like Giardia lamblia. A clinical examination and investigations like blood counts, liver function tests and stool examination may be done. The most important of treating viral gastroenteritis is to prevent severe loss of fluids and prevent developing dehydration.
Avatar f tn I cant remember if my daughters pediatrician gave her the rotavirus vaccine before we left Michigan..She is now 2months old and when we went to get her 2 months shot done, they gave her the rotavirus vaccine orally, here in mexico..Will she be sick or anything?
Avatar n tn Physicians often classify diarrhea as acute (less than 3 weeks duration) or chronic (lasting longer than 3 weeks). Because you mentioned the diarrhea was a recent event, I assume this is acute diarrhea. Acute diarrhea can result from viral infection such as adenovirus and rotavirus, bacterial infection such as salmonella, shigella, E. Coli, or campylobacter, parasitic infestation such as Giardiasis or amebiasis.
Avatar n tn although it was from his underwear that was placed in the trash by a nurse. That was his first time for diarrhea during all of this. The hospital sent us home after getting the stool and urine sample. His diarrhea has some form to some of it and mucus for the rest. It is brown, but with a hint of yellow and smells like a dirty hamster cage...or a pig pen as my husband says. He has explosive gas with this as well. He recently started saying the his tummy hurts too.

458072 tn?1291415186 federal health authorities recommended … that doctors suspend using Rotarix, one of two vaccines licensed in the U.S. against rotavirus, saying the vaccine is contaminated with material from a pig virus,” CNN reports. The Rotarix vaccine, which is made by GlaxoSmithKline and was approved by the FDA in 2008, has already been given to about 1 million U.S. children along with 30 million worldwide. Avatar f tn Red colored stools, stools mixed with blood, diarrhea etc are common after rotavirus immunization. The green color is due to rapid transit or movement of food through the gut. Usually the symptoms settle in a day or two, do not affect the child and there is no fever. If this persists after 48 hours or if the child has fever, is becoming lethargic, then do take him to a doctor. Take care!
Avatar n tn t sound as lactose intolerance. Viral diarrhea (Rotavirus) is common in children younger than 5 years, and some immunity develops after that, so it would be unusual to have 4 consecutive bouts of diarrhea from the virus. What is the color and consistence of his stool? How many times a day? He is complaining (or you suspect) about school problems? Any abdominal pain, if yes, where exactly?
Avatar f tn Need information about pnemonia & Rotavirus side effects. Are side effects common and be curable?
Avatar m tn Took him back to the pediatrician after 6 days of diarrhea, but no more vomiting. We did a stool culture and sensitivity, check for rotavirus and c-diff. All negative. Diarrhea continued daily 2-3x/day with continued decreased appetite and tummy ache complaints. The diarrhea eventually stopped after 2.5 weeks and we breathed a sigh of relief. During this time, he began taking probiotics - both acidophilus as well as beneficial yeast - saccharomyces boulardii.
8101930 tn?1420001456 My son is 2 months and just received his first shots yesterday including the rotavirus vaccine. I noticed that after his shots and today he has been pooping yellow colored like normal but it is very chunky. He is exclusively breast fed and always has a little bit of a seedy stool but this is very chunky. I'm Just curious if anyone knows if this is normal or not. Could it be from the rotavirus vaccine because they do ingest it. Thanks.
Avatar n tn This is not unusual for me as I have been diagnosed as gluten sensitive and had gone off my gluten-free diet prior to the diarrhea starting up. I battled diarrhea for months and months prior to the gluten sensitive diagnosis. The diarrhea is eased quite a bit by taking pepto bismol. I am taking about eight tablets a day which worked in easing the diarrhea the last time around. There was no facial flushing then. The diarrhea has many peices of undigested food in it.
