glucophage

Avatar f tn Since I now longer take Metformin I am having trouble losing the last 20 lbs I need to lose. Is there a connection between weight loss and taking Metformin. Has anyone else experienced this?
Avatar n tn Metformin (Glucophage) must be taken with food otherwise it may cause nausea or vomiting, gas, ingestion, and abdominal discomfort leading to loss of appetite and, of course, excessive weight loss. Your mother might want to switch to the long-acting form of Metformin, called Metformin ER, which has fewer side effects in patients. Please discuss this with her doctor.
Avatar n tn I have PCOS too and I have been put on Metformin which helps with weight loss. People with PCOS have a higher insulin levels which decreases your female hormones and increases the male hormones which cause the hair growth and scattered periods. These are things that you know about but with increased insulin levels your body does not process the food correctly and tends to hold onto it which is why I gained weight! Metformin is for glucose patients and that is why it helps PCOS patients.
Avatar n tn Do i need to go up to a higher doesage or what? I am afraid of why im not losing the weight my docter said i would. She had told me in a year i would see my weight start to go down. Avatar f tn Can a person who is not a diabetic take metformin for weight loss.. I need to loose 60lbs i have tried other prescription's diet pill's and i'am immune to them they work for awhile then nothing.
Avatar f tn Hi I am 17 and I am on metformin. The side effects of the Metformin isn't bad. You do have to go to the restroom alot but thats how you can loose waight. If you get pregnant it wont hurt the baby but metformin can go threw the milk well thats what I read. You would need to talk to your doctor if you want to breast feed. What that pill does is that it reduces the surgures on the foods you eat. Just start slow. Start with 1 for a pill for a week and then 2 ang just go on.
Avatar f tn Hello, My mom just turned 50 this year. She was diagnosed with Type 2 Diabetes two years ago and was 168 pounds at 5"5'. Her doctor put her on Metformin, and she is supposed to be on it for life. Her doctor told her that she would lose weight on it, and the lowest she's been so far is 143 pounds when she weighed herself within the past couple of days. She was at the doctor in December because she had laryngitis and she was weighed at 150 and he was glad about the weight loss.
Avatar f tn HELLO, I HAVE BEEN TAKING METFORMIN FOR YEARS NOW, BUT FOR DIABETES NOT WEIGHT LOSS. I HAD NO IDEA IT WAS ALSO USED FOR WEIGHT CONTROL.FOR ME IT IS TO HELP MY BLOOD SUGAR LEVELS. IT HAS HAD NO EFFECT AT ALL ON MY PERIOD.
Avatar f tn Before going on metformin my weight was 277. I was put on metformin seven months ago and things have changed alot for me I dont eat as much as I use too. I take 500 mg twice a day. I take at lunch and dinner. The weight seem to just fall off without me really doing anything like execrise. Before I was tested for being insulin resistanced I craved sugary foods like candy. I would buy bags and bags of candy, but once i started metformin all those cravings stopped.
Avatar n tn As with ANY treatment, it is effective for most people but not everyone. Also, some people do have weight loss as Metformin helps their body use insulin. Again, it varies from person to person.
Avatar f tn I'm on metformin and have experienced no weight loss that I can attribute to the drug alone, nor have I suffered from any side effects.
415867 tn?1323365503 (10) WEIGHT LOSS AND OTHER BENEFITS. Metformin may contribute to weight loss in some diabetics.(11) However, weight loss does not appear to be one of its primary benefits. Glucophage may also be of some value improving success with in vitro fertilization, lowering cholesterol, and improving energy.
Avatar m tn It depends on the medication. Metformin, the most commonly prescribed type 2 medication does help with weight loss. But mostly you need to cut carbs (good for blood sugar management anyway), reduce fat and increase exercise. Also make sure your thyroid is stable as that of course affects weight as well. Congratulations on your A1C!
Avatar f tn has any1 tried metformin does it really help weight loss and stop excess facial hair?
Avatar f tn So it has definately helped with weight loss when I put some effort. So it does help with weight loss, but only when you are already trying to lose weight. If that makes sense?
Avatar n tn However it does have other benefits for women with PCOS, including improving the likelihood of spontaneous ovulation, or making women who need clomid to help them ovulate more sensitive to clomid. Are your periods regular? What are your goals - weight loss? Pregnancy? If weight loss, a nutritionist might be helpful.
878888 tn?1319634044 08 last test, But she put me on Metformin xr 500 for diabetes. I was wondering if anyone else takes this med along with levothyroxine and if it effects your thyroid management. I have gained 16 lbs back since January and want make sure I don't keep gaining. Ps. I work on my feet and walk about 9000 steps a day, plus have changed my diet and am counting carbs.
Avatar n tn End of August, switched to one Metformin ER 500 mg a day cause my A1C went from 7.4 down to 5.2 in 3 1/2 months. I have thought of a vitamin or iron deficiency, but I eat a lot of healthy foods and haven't lost weight beyond the 30#'S I lost last summer. I read that some people on here think Victoza caused their hair loss. I'm 68 so maybe it's due to aging. Will ask my dr when I see him the end of April for an A1C test.
Avatar f tn Another thing to consider would be to get rid of the sugar substitutes that you are consuming in tea and sodas. Data suggests that people can actually gain weight drinking diet soda as compared to drinking water. It seems that the fake sugar actually tricks your body into craving more sugar later on, and you might be consuming it without realizing it in other forms. Go for water to really make a no calorie change.
Avatar m tn t tell us what this plan consist of, I suggest you go back to your doctor and discuss making necessary adjustments to the plan to halt the weight loss. Also consider opening YOUR OWN new post on the Weight Loss forums.

443878 tn?1205103196 I lost a few pounds when I started metformin medication, but have now stabilized again. Part of my weight loss problems are that occasionally I have to go on a round of steroids for either my lupus or my asthma if they aren't controlled, and then I gain 10 pounds and have to lose that all over again. My Dad is also type II diabetic. He put on weight when he started some of his diabetic medications.
