Avatar f tn Hi. The official advice from the makers of Roaccutane is that you must use contraception during your Roaccutane course and for 5 weeks afterwards. What really concerns me about your post is that you don't appear to be happy about your treatment. Roaccutane is a powerful drug with numerous potential side effects. The decision to take this medicine at this time must be yours. I have taken it twice if you would like to talk.
Avatar n tn Hi, just finished roaccutane treatment last month and took a medical exam yesterday and they found out that I'm anemic? is this a serious problem? I'm really scared. What do i need to know now? what is the type of anemia caused by taking roaccutane? Thank You in advance!
Avatar f tn improvement was then maintained after cessation of the treatment. In severe cases of AV with significant scarring, a trial of isotretinoin therapy is thus worthwhile in an attempt to stop progression of the disease and improve its cosmetic appearance" http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/9692315?ordinalpos=8&itool=EntrezSystem2.PEntrez.Pubmed.Pubmed_ResultsPanel.Pubmed_DefaultReportPanel.
Avatar f tn About 25% of patients may relapse after one treatment. In those cases, a second treatment for another 4-6 months may be indicated to obtain desired results. It is often recommended that one lets a few months pass between the two treatments, because the condition can actually improve somewhat in the time after stopping the treatment and waiting a few months also gives the body a chance to recover. Occasionally a third or even a fourth course is used, but the benefits are often less substantial.
Avatar f tn If something seems too good to be true, it probably is. See your doctor for an approved licenced acne treatment which targets one of the causes of acne; raised androgen levels, excess sebum and bacteria on the skin. Be patient with your treatment, even the most effective treatments take time to work. The "gold standard" treatment for severe acne is Oral Isotretinoin (Accutane/Roaccutane) which results in a long term remission from acne after one course in 80% of patients.
Avatar m tn Hi there I was on Roaccutane which contains Isotretinoin. Years later I too have developed sticky skin. Dermatoligists dont have an answer or help. They say it could be mental. But then there are many other people having the same symptoms. This could also be a side effect which has not been identified. Dermatologist said this could also be related to menapause? It has been years that I have sticky skin on my entire body, worsening even effecting my hair and eyes.
Avatar m tn from September to now I had a violent outburst of acne (cystic nodule) and so my dermatologist prescribed to me Roaccutane (isotretinoin) 30 mg everyday . Second Problem from a few years ago I'm noticing that my hair are becoming thinner . My dermatologist says that is normal but the difference between from a few years ago and now it's substancial !!! .
309783 tn?1271958229 When acne and rosacea are both present and oral Isotretinoin is used, do telangiectasias tend to resolve, or do oral retinoids worsen this problem (as reported with topical retinoids) ? Eloise.
Avatar m tn i use a drug called retane (Isotretinoin) (20 mg per day )for 2 and half months (until today) and my blood test was neutropenia 3.2( wbc) and my hematocrit was 50.3% with erythrocytosis 5.
Avatar f tn I was also on acne treatment when I was younger. Roaccutane which contains Isotretinoin she is also on Isotretinoin, now here is a possible connection. Isotretinoin is also used to treat some cancers. There was a male on this forum who said he developed sticky skin after cancer treatment. Isotretinoin is a retinoid, related to Vitamin A. Overdose of vit A has its own side effects. I am still in extensive research mode, so maybe investigate all this and see if you can relate to anything.
Avatar m tn Hi. Oral Isotretinoin (Accutane/Roaccutane) is the most effective drug for clearing acne. It has many potential side effects (dry lips, sensitized skin, joint and muscle pain) but this must be balanced against the fact that after your course you are likely to remain free from acne for a long time. The correct dose is 0.5 to 1mg x kg bodyweight per day. So if you weigh 50kg, you are correct in taking 40mg daily, as your dose should be between 25 and 50mg a day.
Avatar n tn Cheilitis is associated with many conditions from Vitamin B12 deficiency, iron deficiency anemia, be a symptom of allergies.can also be caused by taking the (retinoid) drug Isotretinoin (brand name Roaccutane). Applying protective paraffin-based ointment (such as Vaseline) or lip balms to the lips is normally very effective. Also take Vitamin B supplements. If nothing works you can have a biopsy done to find out the cause. ref:http://en.wikipedia.
Avatar m tn My dermo said that about 20% of people need a second course of treatment. My papers say you have to wait 2 months after first treatment before you can do a second treatment, so you are all ready. Good luck.
Avatar m tn If acne does not respond to these standard treatments, or relapse occurs when treatment is dicontinued, your dermatologist may feel you warrant Oral Isotretinoin (Accutane/Roaccutane). This is a powerful drug with many potential side effects, but this must be balanced against the fact that it results in a long term remission from acne in 80% of patients after one course of treatment lasting 16-24 weeks.
Avatar n tn But then I came accross a young girl who also developed sticky skin after acne treatment of Isotrtinoin. When I was younger I also had acne treatment, Roaccutane which contains Isotretinoin, now there could be some comparison link. Isotretinoin is also used to treat cancer. There is also a person complaining about sticky skin after receiving cancer treatment. Isotretinoin is a retinoid related to vitamin A.
Avatar f tn If these medicines have resulted in failure or relapse after long term use, you may be a candidate for oral Isotretinoin (Roaccutane) the strongest acne medicine available. Cosmetics will not cure acne, although camoflague make-up will be helpful until medication has a chance to work. I recommend Estee Lauder's Maximum Coverage foundation, Toleriane by La Roche-Posay or Dermablend by Vichy. Eloise.
Avatar f tn Unfortunately age doesn't matter. I'm 30 and still have a problem with acne. It depends on a lot of things. Mine is hormones (even though BC never helped with it). But it also depends on your skin type, stress, activity level, etc. As loiloi said, talk to your doctor and see what he/she recommends.

Avatar m tn If you have severe acne, and standard treatments result in failure or relapse, your dermatologist may prescribe Oral Isotretinoin (Accutane/Roaccutane). This is the strongest acne treatment available but it does have many potential side effects, so perserve with oral antibiotics and topical retinoids before considering this. Eloise.
Avatar n tn If long-term antibiotics prove ineffective you may be a candidate for oral isotretinoin (accutane/roaccutane) and your doctor may refer you to a dermatologist. I have taken two courses of roaccutane if you want to talk about it.
Avatar m tn Hello, Fusidic acid and minocycline are both antibiotics which are used for the treatment of acne. Treatment options include topical and oral antibiotics, topical retinoids, hormonal therapy, dermabrasion , phototherapy and laser resurfacing. Normally a combination of treatments is followed and if nothing proves effective then dermabrasion and laser therapy are useful. You can discuss these treatment options with your dermatologist.
Avatar m tn If a fair trial of topical retinoids and oral antibiotics results in failure or relapse your doctor may refer you to a dermatologist for Oral Isotretinoin (Roaccutane). Best Wishes, Eloise.
Avatar f tn Hello, I am starting Roaccutane for my acne, and I am supposed to have a blood test tomorrow, which is mainly focused on my liver enzymes (on the paper, the doctor checked ALT/SGPT and ALT/SGOT). I had a few drinks last thursday (around 3 shots), and I am scared my liver enzymes will be too high, although it's been 9 days since I had the drinks. It was my first time really drinking (usually it would be a sip or two from somebody). I really do not want that to show up in the blood test.
Avatar n tn Do you drink a lot of coffee or cola? Sometimes caffeine can do it.
