356518 tn?1322263642 Concerta is great... It is as close as you can get to ritalin and it not have the bad effects like ritalin. Maybe you should try it. It is expensive though. the 27mg dose is like 100 CDN a month. But works well.
Avatar f tn Children taking Ritalin seem to have side effects ..it would be a good to ask the prescribing Doctor about the dosage..it has also been shown by experts that a good food supplement of anti oxidants VitC and Vit B Complex work as well as Ritalin with no side effects ..You dont say the age of the child , but masturbation is considered normal behavior amongst most children unless its excessive .
Avatar n tn Hi, i have ADHD and i've changed a lot since in school. At first i couldn't concentrate and got bored VERY easily, you should go down to your doctors for some help. I got but on Ritalin < - -a tablet designed to help. these did not help me at all and made me very drowsey and baisically like a zombie i hated them. The did not solve the problem but in many cases does. I didn't enjoy school and was put on a more fun corse while learning.
Avatar n tn It is one of the side effects of Ritalin perhaps you should ask your Doctor for a new evaluation of the Med, if you ever decide to let him be on Natural Remedies, it has been shown in studies that food supplements have the same efficacy as Ritalin and a Muliple Vitamin-mineral with B Complex and Vit C also Fish oil, would be good, a lot of Parents are trying this now and their children and not getting the bad side effects that Ritalin and the other meds have.
Avatar f tn WARNINGS - Ritalin should not be used in children under six years, since safety and efficacy in this age group have not been established. Sufficient data on safety and efficacy of long-term use of Ritalin in children are not yet available. Although a causal relationship has not been established, suppression of growth (ie, weight gain, and/or height) has been reported with the long-term use of stimulants in children. Therefore, patients requiring long-term therapy should be carefully monitored.
Avatar f tn Food supplement treatment of ADHD may be of equal efficacy to Ritalin, All children especially those with learnin g difficulties, benefit from a Multiple vitamin-mineralsupplement with anti oxidants ,B Complex and Vit C fish oil has also shown to be useful..this was shown in recent studies by experts.
Avatar f tn But on the other hand, when we see that in some localities as many as 15 to 20 percent of the children have been put on Ritalin or a similar stimulant, there is good reason to conclude that this is "quick-fix." bogus medical practice which is nevertheless producing large profits. This far exceeds any professional estimates of actual need.
1447050 tn?1284582074 And the long term effects of children with a highly caffeinated diets? My question is.. Ritalin is at its core an SSRI. So with already high serotonin levels in the body and brain with a high enough caffeine intake boosting already high serotonin in the body.
Avatar f tn As a follow up to your Post, here what I have found recently in a good paper,"one recent study has suggested, "Food Supplements Treatment of ADHD may be of equal efficacy to Ritalin treatment" All children and especially those with learning difficulties, benefit from a Multiple Vitamin-mineral supplement with antioxidants, BCompex and Vitamin C.
636964 tn?1222990085 My husband recently decided that he had ADD so he went to his doctor and got prescribed Ritalin. Ever since he's been on it, he's been a zombie and emotionless. We barely make love anymore and he's also very sensative about things. Now I've heard that sometimes if you really don't have ADD, the medication will affect you different then for someone who really has it. I've discussed this problem several times with my husband but nothing has changed.
607502 tn?1288247540 html INteresting article - a look at the federal Department of Health staitstics have turned up figures showing 4000 children under the age of 10 were prescribed anti-depressants last financial year, including 553 children under five and 48 babies. 48 Babies? The paediatricians have now it appears had brought to their notice what some of us in Australia have been saying for a long time - that you cannot let GP's prescribe these drugs - they are dangerous and habit forming. Worth a read.
Avatar m tn Ritalin for Adults With ADHD. Ritalin for ADHD treatment in adults has not been adequately studied, meaning that no large studies have been conducted on the benefits and risks of using it to treat adult ADHD. However, healthcare providers may prescribe Ritalin for adult ADHD in certain situations. This is considered an "off-label" of the drug.
Avatar n tn Best way is to do a lot of research, there is much out there regarding the drugs that are given to children for 'disorders' I would also like to know was your child put on Ritalin for Downs or something else ?
Avatar n tn The doctor said that because his prescription is so severe, he wants him to wear the glasses all the time and to cover his good eye with a patch for 8 hours a day for a year and half at least, which it bothers him tremendously. Any other suggestion in this matter? How do I get my son to wear the patch? and do you think it is too early for an astigmatism to be detected? Will his vision benefit from the glasses and the patch? Any advice on how to get him used to them?
Avatar n tn Now I am not saying that your child is not ADHD i am saying I seriously have a problem with medicating 3 and 4 year old children with drugs of the class of ritalin - yes it calms them down but it does the same thing to non ADHD children as well.
Avatar f tn i have an 8yr old asd son he was also tilte adhd ritalin la was suggested is that good
Avatar n tn Pull him off Ritalin and try Concerta and try it in lower to higher doses. Ritalin at a higher dose was hard on my 10 yr old. He was diagnosed with ODD when he was 5 and it takes time. We got over hurdles by therapy, putting him in extracurrricular activites. He is now on Concerta 54mg in the morning and takes 5mg of Ritalin in the afternoon. Concerta has been great, no side effects or anything. We had bad reactions with vyvvanse with my 6yr old - as in hallucinations big time.
Avatar f tn We have had problems with fighting on the concerna. Daytrana has been used the most. The problem with the Patch, does not stay on. Plus I am dealing with a 11y/o who may or maynot want to leave his patch on. So any suggestions??
Avatar f tn The easy way to explain it is to copy the following and if you want to look into it more, you can google it:-) I read a book on it which was interesting. ________________ Indigo children is a label given to children whose parents believe they possess special, unusual and/or supernatural traits or abilities. The idea is based on New Age concepts developed in the 1970s by Nancy Ann Tappe.
Avatar n tn Strattera can be a good choice for children who do not respond well to a stimulant medication, or for children who cannot take Ritalin (e.g., if they have a history of seizures). It is usually wise to proceed with one of the stimulant medications (if Ritalin or another of the methylphenidate products is not useful, perhaps one of the dextroamphetamine prodicts, like Adderall, will be a better choice).
Avatar n tn He was diagnosed with ADHD when he was 5 although we knew it by the time he was 3. He takes Ritalin... 25 mg in the am... 20 mg @ noon and 10 mg after school. The Ritalin has worked VERY WELL at controlling impulsivity and bad behavior. So much so, that his teacher this year asked me why he was on Ritalin. However, it has made him very slow at completing assignments and many other things. He is very bright and makes very good grades.
7087196 tn?1389306119 The diagnosis was borderline ADHD. I was diagnosed with ADHD at 15, was given Ritalin, and my behaviors became so much worse, wrong diagnosis. In 2005 was diagnosed with Bi-Polar. They have tried Celexa, Risperdal, Quafanicine (unsure of spelling) and they work for a very short time and his behavior gets worse then it was before. He said in school on the 18th, he wanted to shoot all the kids in his second grade class, after he pushed a girl when she was mean to him.
Avatar f tn He put my Monday at ease about the meds. We discussed doing the patch vs. the pill and we talked about our worries with the patch possibly falling off so he put him on Ridalin LA 10 mg. Down side was that there is no generic so we are having to pay a little extra every month but he has been on it for a week and so far so good. His teacher said she can already see a difference and I haven't been having to fight with him to do home work. No stomach pain this time either.
1453183 tn?1287849019 Also, a study published in Neuropsychopharmacology at the Finch University of Health Sciences/Chicago Medical School found that adolescent rats given repeated doses of Ritalin, proportionate to doses for children, are more likely to self-administer cocaine as adults.
Avatar f tn well, i know that not everyone can tolerate lyrica (or like was said above, maybe your dose just needs to be adjusted -- heck, maybe i should go on it for my insomnia!!!!)....i also understand your "no appetite" with the ritalin....i have friends whose children are on a similar medication, and they say that it REALLY wrecks the appetite....check with your doc....maybe the combination is just too much for you??
