Common Questions and Answers about Ritalin information

ritalin

Avatar f tn ve begged him to get professional help but he insists that if he admits to his doctor that he is depressed, he will no longer be able to get the ritalin which is the only thing helping him do well in school. He cannot tolerate the idea of antidepressants. He is going to his doctor next week to get a new prescription for more ritalin. I want to secretly contact his doctor and give her this information, but I know he will hate me if he finds out that I went behind his back. What should I do??
Avatar m tn My son is currently on 7.5mg of Ritalin. He is very whiney and obsesses over things like what he is going to do next, or where he is going next . Starts crying about things that happened days ago. Worries about it for no reason. Is this normal ?
Avatar n tn My daughter just started taking 10mg of adderall xr and it doesn't seem to be working as well as the generic ritalin was. Does it take awhile for it to have it's full effect? This is only her third day on the medication. Any thoughts?
Avatar f tn For instance, if a person is on 30mg of Adderall and wants to switch to Ritalin,..you will need aprox. 50 to 60mg of Ritalin to be equivelant to the 30mg of Adderall. I am on 60mg of Adderall daily. I wanted to try Ritalin again just for the heck of it. I have shown proof from reliable sources, to my Doc that he needs to give me MORE than 60mg Ritalin for it to be effective as 60mg Adderrall. He still will NOT increase the Ritalin dosage.
Avatar f tn My dr has just decided to put me on ritalin, after trying many many other drugs plus ect, for my treatment resistant depression. My question is how quickly will I know if it works? Do I get immediate benefits from it or is it a gradual approach? For example, if I take a tablet at 9am, do I feel more energetic for that morning and then wears off by bedtime? I hope I'm making sence! Thank you for your help.
Avatar m tn Yes it is well known ritalin has side effects of anger and aggression and in fact experts have found that food supplements , anti oxidants Vit C and Vit B complex have the same efficacy as ritalin.with none of the side effects .... Run it by your doctor , I suggest you go the supplement way to help your son ....
Avatar m tn I saw my psychiatrist today and he told me Ritalin must be taken cautiously with patients with tics because it aggravates tics. I am 27 years old and have been taking Ritalin since I was about 13. I used to have a blinking eye tic but Ritalin didnt seem to aggravate it. However I got a funny spasm in my left eye and the doc said its fine. The one question I forgot to ask him was if Ritalin could cause my eye tic to spiral out of control in the future.
Avatar f tn My dr has recommended that my son take 5 mg of Ritalin in afternoon to help him focus with homework. Anyone have any experience with side effects in child and taking this?
Avatar n tn My son has been on ritalin for 12 months he is now 6 and the last week he has just developed eye movements that i was concerned might be a tic. He is extremely anxious , especially when on his medication in strange unfamiliar settings but does quite well at school and has lots of friends. He has been out of routine of late with school holidays and 10 weeks ago had a increase in medication to 1 tab in the morning 1/2 at lunch and 1/2 at 3.30 pm.
Avatar n tn The last time I had wanted adderrall all I could get my hands on was Ritalin, which is from what I was told was pretty much the same as adderrall, as well as similar dosages. When I took the 40mg ritalin I concluded that it was pretty much equivalent to a 30mg adderrall. So anyway back to that night! I decided I was going to need help staying up for that long, I took two of the 40mg Ritalin. These alone would have probably been fine, but I made a foolish mistake afterward.
429700 tn?1308007823 Has anyone taken Ritalin for the MS fatigue and/or cognitive issues? I've just been prescribed this drug in place of the Provigil that my insurance company won't cover.
14631020 tn?1436545476 My neuro put me on Ritalin for this bone crushing fatigue a week ago. I realize some medicines take a while to get into your system before they actually work and some medicines are fast acting and you get immediate results. The Ritalin has made me slightly more mentally aware, but I am still bone tired. Should I give it more time or call him and tell him it isn't working?
Avatar m tn I have MS and this is why I am asking about Ritalin instead of the 600 mg of provigil i take every Morning
1497278 tn?1289708073 Ritalin still exists???? Ritalin was basically banned from pharmacies in Puerto Rico!! Ritalin is a very dangerous drug, it causes damages to the nervous system, it makes your body retain water and it makes people to have nervous tics.
Avatar n tn ritalin is running my life its all i think about feel like i cant get enough, been on it for 3 yrs, just recently loss control sometimes takeing 200+ mg a day its going to kill me and im desperate to stop, anyone familiar with this monster
939031 tn?1289956654 Thanks for the input on Ritalin. My company's insurance plan wanted me to switch to it from Provigil (probably due to cost) but I was afraid to because I had heard some bad things about it, but I like what you both have said. I have to be careful of too much stimulation due to heart symptoms - palpitations etc. Actually, I can no longer take Provigil which worked wonders for me. How small a dose of Ritalin have you found is effective?
Avatar n tn Is there any other thing that is out there for him to try to get some energy - my neurologist is percribing ritalin, is that good? Do you know of anything else and if you have any trials going on pleaes consider him. Thank you.
1383803 tn?1502917179 many people I know (including my husband and myself, who are clean and sober) that were on ritalin/aterol/dexedrine as kids eventually turned to meth to help with their ongoing "chemical imbalance". I don't want this to happen to my son so I ordered the synaptol because it is non narcotic. Has anyone had experience with this med and is it successful?
Avatar f tn Thanks for your responses. I am not saying that ADHD doesnt exist, I know it does and some children need this addressing specifically, but I work in an education field and I firmly believe that there is a lot of over-diagnosis, unnecessary drugging and children that are labelled wrongly. it IS happening. Just this week we had one child who was removed from his parents because of physical abuse, placed with a maternal aunt who neglected him and then placed with foster parents ..
Avatar f tn Thank you for the information on Prozac and Ritalin. I wonder if those are causing my symptoms. I will ask my doctor, but I know other people with Dysautonomia are taking these same drugs. PACs & PVCs, just what I needed, more annoyance in my life! Haha. Thanks for your help.
Avatar f tn Also a good multi vitamin with antioxidants has been shown to work as well at Ritalin , if you put it in the search engine there is information ,check out the side effects aswell Good Luck
Avatar f tn Hi, I am 54 years old, female. From around 1964 to 1969 I was put on Ritalin to control what they called a perceptual disorder/hyperactivity. I was also put on Phenobarbital for around 9 months when the Ritalin did not appear to be working. The Phenobarbital made me psychotic and prone to violent meltdowns. It was several months before anyone made the connection. I was then returned to Ritalin and remained on it until I reached puberty.
Avatar n tn In other words, the on-line surveys can be useful starting points, but it is wise to use the information to launch a thorough evaluation by a pediatric mental health or behavioral health clinician.
