Common Questions and Answers about Ritalin in the military

ritalin

899491 tn?1243773627 Well I can promise you they did try to treat him in Iraq, didn't work out well for the poor guy. I don't know why in the world they would do that. They also know he had a traumatic brain injury as a child. They aren't discharging him. I don't understand it either, but I know the stories true. If he can't make it through one deployment I don't know how he's of any use to the army now or later.
Avatar f tn I took ritalin in late teens for adhd and developed epilepsy in early thirties. No history of seizures in family but my brother who also took ritalin in late teens also eveloped seizures as I did.
Avatar n tn If it does not, it would be an indication that the dose is too low. Before trying the Ritalin in the morning, I would talk with your doc about increasing the V one more time. And yes, you are right that Ritalin is faster working. So it might be worth trying to see how he responds to that. And some people just do better on R anyway. If he does not respond to the R in 15 to 20 min. It may be that he is what Dr. Parker calls a slow metabolizer. See more about that here - http://www.
Avatar f tn dr stopped me cold turkey and put me on wellbutrin sr on the 10th and he said stop the ritalin yeasterday
Avatar n tn I am active duty in the military and was recently diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes. I have avoided going to medical because I am afraid my military career may be over due to the diagnosis. And I don't want to ask too many questions on base for the same reason. Does anyone know what I can expect? Am I going to be medically discharged automatically? Has anyone gone through the same? Thanks!
Avatar n tn t mind what job but as long as its related to the military i am happy... i would be a military lawyer, a desk job in the military, ect, i just want to be issued in a military job... has anybody got any ideas ??? or information ??? thank you.
Avatar m tn My son is in the military. He suffers from mild agoraphobia and was originally prescribed Prozac. He had side-effects and to that and was prescribed Paxil and is concerned about developing side-effects to this as well. The only time that he is symptomatic is when standing in formation on a parade ground -- far from a daily occurance. It concerns him that he has been prescribed a daily, long-term medication to deal with a something that happens only occasionally.
Avatar m tn All i want to know is will it show up at all and if it does will it show my high levels of ritalin being in my system so the doctors will know i was abusing it. If anyone knows what theyre talking about please answer this question so i know what i should expect at my next visit and perhaps give me a hint as to what i should say because if it does show up, perhaps just proving i have a prescription to ritalin will get me off the hook? any feedback will be greatly appreciated.
Avatar n tn I very much understand the disappointment of youngsters with Type 1 (IDDM) at not being allowed to serve in the military. One's military service is often the most significant period in the whole life of a veteran. I was a nuclear submarine officer who had completed six years of active service and was in the reserves when I developed Type 1 in my late 20s. I had to resign from the naval reserves as a direct result.
Avatar n tn Why don't you go to the psychologist/therapist on base and ask him what he thinks? Medication could easily help your condition, but I thought the military did not take people who have been on medication.
Avatar m tn i tried to put in the times that i slept and it kept telling me that the intervals cant overlap the previous days intervals... im confused it wasnt overlapping anything and this whole military time thing stinks maybe there should be a choice to do the military time and those like myself whos illiterite to how it really works because i know military time but the whole not letting me put 2:00 (am) to 11:00 (am) it would not let me.
14631020 tn?1436545476 I realize some medicines take a while to get into your system before they actually work and some medicines are fast acting and you get immediate results. The Ritalin has made me slightly more mentally aware, but I am still bone tired. Should I give it more time or call him and tell him it isn't working?
Avatar m tn Hi Gester: You do not have to start a new thread to ask your question. You can continue on the original thread if you'd like. The members will see your continued comments in the first post. It will be hard for others to understand the full question without you explaining the entire post again.
1497278 tn?1289708073 Ritalin was basically banned from pharmacies in Puerto Rico!! Ritalin is a very dangerous drug, it causes damages to the nervous system, it makes your body retain water and it makes people to have nervous tics. My advice to you is to stop taking that forever, don't even try another different medication because the doctors will prescribe you next time a stronger one, then a stronger one, then another and another and so on to the point were they will tell you that you are bipolar!!
Avatar m tn I have had many students who froze during the test. Athletes do the same thing in the big game. Of course, the more experienced the students or athletes are, the less the chance of this happening. You might try writing down all the questions of the test you can remember, and if it comes up again - practice, practice, practice trial tests. To answer your question, could your company fire you for taking pain killers if you had a bad back?
Avatar n tn ritalin is running my life its all i think about feel like i cant get enough, been on it for 3 yrs, just recently loss control sometimes takeing 200+ mg a day its going to kill me and im desperate to stop, anyone familiar with this monster
388423 tn?1208308371 I am in the Military and have returned to work. I have to admit the pain is not quite as bad as before the injection but I will have to say the side effects since the injection I feel are worse than the pain. For example: Tonight I slept only about 2 hours and now I am wide awake. I also stay very hot all the time and it is 30 degrees outside. Physical therapy is trying to help but I feel worse after leaving. We are doing traction and very limited exercise.
Avatar n tn ve been on concerta for about 3 years now and my dr recently perscribe me with 5mg of ritalin. I take 2 18mg of concerta a day and 1-2 mg in the evening if I need an extra boost to do my hw. Ur story sound almost identical to what happened to me this past november. I took my 18mg like I usually do in the morning. that evening I planned to go to a friends house to get some hw done. Around 5pm I took 4 5mg of my ritlin. Big mistake.
Avatar m tn My Father did one tour in Korea and retired after his 2nd tour in Vietnam. After his 2nd tour in Vietnam he and my mother divorced, he changed his name, his personality, and remarried. This “new man “ was not the man I knew. He wasn’t mean, reclusive, or stoic, just different. At his funeral, I was told that he volunteered for the 2nd tour in Nam because he couldn’t cope and “your father died back in the war, it just took him this long to lay down.
Avatar n tn I am the one who posted the info about civilian jobs in partnership with the military. My husband is an Air Force officer, and his job is personnel, so he deals with issues such as your question about whether a person who had been cured of type 1 diabetes could be admitted. I do think that this would have to be decided by the military at the time that a cure became possible.
Avatar m tn Whilst taking the meds, I noticed that the veins in my arms, hands, stomach and along the shaft of my penis expanded in size. I also had increases in bp to about 160/70. Since stopping the veins are still more prominent than they were before. I have less desire to have sex. I have an enlarged varicocele (which became larger after ritalin/concerta). Initially (for about two months), whilst I was on Ritalin I experienced increased libido and experienced really intense erections.
Avatar f tn I have trouble concentrating, especially at work, and a number of my friends (whom are nurses) have suggested ritalin... but through my searches on the medication, it seems it's not available for adults? (only children) I was wondering if it's available for adults? If Ritalin would help with concentration problems? What would the mg be for an adult dose? Thanks.
Avatar f tn I kept having tingling in my body the last few days so dr stopped the ritalin and put me back on 30 mg of prozac along with the wellbutrin sr and my xaanx..
Avatar f tn s action really quickly (apart the fact that it is most of the time snorted which makes it way more bioavaible) and it haves a short half-life. Ritalin works pretty much in the same way like you will feel the effect 30 to 1 hour after taking the drug. I am very happy that you have found, what seems to me, be a good doctor.
