356518 tn?1322263642 Concerta is great... It is as close as you can get to ritalin and it not have the bad effects like ritalin. Maybe you should try it. It is expensive though. the 27mg dose is like 100 CDN a month. But works well.

7087196 tn?1389306119 I was diagnosed with Bi-Polar in 2005 and also had a child in 2005. My son is now 8 years old and acts like I did around his age. He says and acts in violent ways. He has not done anything to extreme thankfully.
Avatar n tn Hi, i have ADHD and i've changed a lot since in school. At first i couldn't concentrate and got bored VERY easily, you should go down to your doctors for some help. I got but on Ritalin < - -a tablet designed to help. these did not help me at all and made me very drowsey and baisically like a zombie i hated them. The did not solve the problem but in many cases does. I didn't enjoy school and was put on a more fun corse while learning.
Avatar n tn It is one of the side effects of Ritalin perhaps you should ask your Doctor for a new evaluation of the Med, if you ever decide to let him be on Natural Remedies, it has been shown in studies that food supplements have the same efficacy as Ritalin and a Muliple Vitamin-mineral with B Complex and Vit C also Fish oil, would be good, a lot of Parents are trying this now and their children and not getting the bad side effects that Ritalin and the other meds have.
Avatar f tn WARNINGS - Ritalin should not be used in children under six years, since safety and efficacy in this age group have not been established. Sufficient data on safety and efficacy of long-term use of Ritalin in children are not yet available. Although a causal relationship has not been established, suppression of growth (ie, weight gain, and/or height) has been reported with the long-term use of stimulants in children. Therefore, patients requiring long-term therapy should be carefully monitored.
Avatar f tn My dr has recommended that my son take 5 mg of Ritalin in afternoon to help him focus with homework. Anyone have any experience with side effects in child and taking this?
1447050 tn?1284582074 High serotonin levels in children before puberty from what iv found in medical papers suggests that the few study s to look into this discovered children with high levels are more at risk for developing psychopathic traits latter in development. Just wondering if a full study has been done or the theory has even been proposed. Im not a professional so some one would probably discredit me on such questions as my knowledge is no where on a doctorate level.
Avatar f tn As a follow up to your Post, here what I have found recently in a good paper,"one recent study has suggested, "Food Supplements Treatment of ADHD may be of equal efficacy to Ritalin treatment" All children and especially those with learning difficulties, benefit from a Multiple Vitamin-mineral supplement with antioxidants, BCompex and Vitamin C.
607502 tn?1288247540 Terrifying - its not uncommon for kids uner 5 to be prescribed ritalin, proxac, lamactil and a host of other drugs these days.
636964 tn?1222990085 My husband recently decided that he had ADD so he went to his doctor and got prescribed Ritalin. Ever since he's been on it, he's been a zombie and emotionless. We barely make love anymore and he's also very sensative about things. Now I've heard that sometimes if you really don't have ADD, the medication will affect you different then for someone who really has it. I've discussed this problem several times with my husband but nothing has changed.
Avatar f tn I am in my early-mid teens, 65.5 inches, and app. 160 pounds. I get about 7 hours of excercise a week and rarely have fast food or non-water beverages (one coffee a week). I am on Ritalin. My heart rate seems to be abnormally fast- about 94 bpm. I don't think this is normal, even if I am on Ritalin. is it possible that this is linked to anxiety or depression (which are chronic issues)?
Avatar f tn I took ritalin in late teens for adhd and developed epilepsy in early thirties. No history of seizures in family but my brother who also took ritalin in late teens also eveloped seizures as I did.
Avatar m tn Ritalin for Adults With ADHD. Ritalin for ADHD treatment in adults has not been adequately studied, meaning that no large studies have been conducted on the benefits and risks of using it to treat adult ADHD. However, healthcare providers may prescribe Ritalin for adult ADHD in certain situations. This is considered an "off-label" of the drug.
Avatar n tn So often in the morning he will seem unfocused so will not do well during early 8am test. His doctor and I discussed trying Ritalin first in the morning and then adding Vyvanse, which is the reverse of what many people do. Since Ritalin is faster acting I'm hoping that it will kick in first ( is it within 30 minutes?) and then after it kicks in to give Vyvanse.
Avatar f tn And sometimes starting new medication can cause a short term increase in anxiety. I had severe tingling in my arms from anxiety and had to get a CT scan to rule out a stroke. Amazingly, as soon as I found out my brain was okay, my tingling went away within a day or so. Continuing to worry about it can cause the symptoms to continue and even become worse. I recommend speaking to your doctor and trying to calm down and see if your symptoms go away.
Avatar n tn There are several cases of bipolar in children younger than 8. I am too tired to dig them up right now, but it does happen but not often. Secondly, I too refused to give my daughter ADHD meds. I freaked out over giving her speed and only gave it to her a few times. Frankly, I was afraid she might get addicted at age 4 or 5. So, here she is at 6 and we are re-trying the meds. These meds DO NOT make her stimulated at all....they make her SLEEPY.
Avatar n tn Pull him off Ritalin and try Concerta and try it in lower to higher doses. Ritalin at a higher dose was hard on my 10 yr old. He was diagnosed with ODD when he was 5 and it takes time. We got over hurdles by therapy, putting him in extracurrricular activites. He is now on Concerta 54mg in the morning and takes 5mg of Ritalin in the afternoon. Concerta has been great, no side effects or anything. We had bad reactions with vyvvanse with my 6yr old - as in hallucinations big time.
Avatar n tn Strattera can be a good choice for children who do not respond well to a stimulant medication, or for children who cannot take Ritalin (e.g., if they have a history of seizures). It is usually wise to proceed with one of the stimulant medications (if Ritalin or another of the methylphenidate products is not useful, perhaps one of the dextroamphetamine prodicts, like Adderall, will be a better choice).
Avatar n tn He was diagnosed with ADHD when he was 5 although we knew it by the time he was 3. He takes Ritalin... 25 mg in the am... 20 mg @ noon and 10 mg after school. The Ritalin has worked VERY WELL at controlling impulsivity and bad behavior. So much so, that his teacher this year asked me why he was on Ritalin. However, it has made him very slow at completing assignments and many other things. He is very bright and makes very good grades.
1453183 tn?1287849019 Studies with rats at Harvard McClean University have shown that Ritalin use during juvenile years leads to depression in adulthood. This is similar to what happens to chronic users of illegal stimulants. My parents put me on Ritalin as a child. I cannot work because my depression is so disabling. You can read my story here at: www.ritalinawareness.com. I wish you and your child all the best.
Avatar f tn i have an 8yr old asd son he was also tilte adhd ritalin la was suggested is that good
Avatar f tn My 9 year old son hs developed a tic, I believe, from taking ritalin for atention deficit disorder. He did well all year in school, and I stopped giving him ritalin one month ago when school ended. It seems he has developed this tic of rolling his eyes after stopping the medicine. Does anyone have any advice? We have tried many different medicines- concerta, metadate, all wioth severe side effects with my son, so do not want to keep trying defferent medicines.
