Common Questions and Answers about Ritalin for students

ritalin

Avatar m tn regarding the use of Ritalin for students. They talked about how beneficial it was for concentration and focus. It allowed many students to stay up longer to complete their studies. It went on to say that in controlled usage it was a great medication. They predicted that it will be more widely used for college students in particular. So yes, I would discuss the possibility that the drug may benefit you. It is certainly worth a try.
Avatar n tn my 13 yr old son was diagnosed w/ adhd @ age five, was medicated with ritalin @ age six.we soon found out that stimulants seemed to make things worse for him, we went from ritalin to concerta to adderall to strattera. from the beginning, we have included weekly, sometimes daily therapy, and in the last three years intensive in home therapy.
Avatar m tn i recently took a promotional test which i have studied hard for. i studied for months i felt really confident. the day of the test, it was like i didnt study at all when i took it, i was really frustrated, i didnt do well in the test and i usually dont fail tests even with my symptoms. I couldnt believe that i faild the test and i felt i knew most of those answers. My work partner and my wife and kids all tell me te same thing, why i am not listening to them.
Avatar f tn Hello everyone, First of all sorry for my English, this is not my language. I don't write in my country forums because people are not so experienced and there is not so much information. I am 30 years old and have been addicted to all kind of drugs. I lost almost everything because of my addictions. I was have been sober of cocaine for 8 months now. I used to inject it IV. Sometimes with heroine. Fortunately I never got addicted to heroine.
Avatar m tn Is it acceptable for kindergarten students to receive I.S.S.? I have a five year old daughter who is very intelligent. She is constantly getting in trouble at school for not following directions, talking, clapping her hands with soap in them, not sitting on the carpet correctly etc..... At times she has a hard time minding and controlling her anger and sadness. I talk to her and she says she understands but keeps on with the same behavior.
Avatar f tn I have been medicated for a long time (was on Ritalin for a very long time but had to switch medications within the past few years because Ritalin stopped working for me). I have been on vyvance for a while now and it was doing fine for me. I am in college now, and last semester (spring 2014 semester) I got a concussion. I did not seem to be having too many problems over the summer break, but now that I am back in school, I have completely changed.
Avatar f tn I dont know if this is accurate or not, but I thought it should be shared. I just read this in the "Health" Section of Foxnews.com I have heard a lot of really good things about Provigil, although I've never used it. It was recommended to me many times though. Just some food for thought. Seems EVERYTHING comes with its own set of dangers attached.
Avatar f tn The other thought is not to take extended release meds (XR) so they are out of your system at night. Vyv has probably the longest duration of them all, which is great for some people. Ritalin has a duration of roughly 4 hours which I think is the shortest. Some people even take meds to help them sleep at night (which I think should be avoided if possible). But since we all are different it takes some trial and error to see what works the best.
Avatar n tn As you recognized, Asperger's Disorder is diagnosed by behavioral characteristics and certainly not by physcial appearance. In addition, I would recommend seeking a second opinion if you ever feel that a professional is rushing to medication. At this point, it would make sense to seek diagnosis if that will allow your daughter to gain access to some services that will help her to be successful.
2083581 tn?1332307861 I currently use Ritalin for ADD and it also helps depression. Does anyone have suggestions for supplementing this with another drug. I have heard wellbutrin works well with Ritalin but I would like to here from someone with experience. Ritalin is the only drug that has ever helped me but when it wears off I am depressed again. (and I have tried Concerta and did like it) Any suggestions?
Avatar f tn Has anyone ever been prescribed Ritalin for Migraines? What is the thought about this? I am looking for alternative approaches for my chronic migraines, usually 2 migraines per week, 1 of which is completely debilitating. I tried a 5mg dose of Ritalin (1x day) for a week and it was a migraine free week (despite high stress and sleep deprivation due to work).
Avatar f tn Tried ritalin (normal), ritalin SR, Concerta and amphetamine. Concerta gave me something but felt something missing, normal ritalin was terrible, OD and came into "cocain waves" (very high, and straight to the bottom), amph gave me more but I didnĀ“t eat, and felt a bit anxious, ritalin SR was, and is my favourite, works as a charm.
704043 tn?1298056844 I thought it was for alzheimers disease ???? my in-laws were on it in the latter stages of their life.... glad to hear it helps here too, cause we all could use some help with the memory things, especially if we are over the 50ish hump....
Avatar f tn I am also puzzled why any Doctor would want to give a child a drug like Ritalin simply for him to focus, this is exactly the problem that is mentioned in the above post ..
Avatar m tn It depends when he is whiney and obsessive. Ritalin is only good for a maximum of 4 hours. If this is happening towards the end of this time, then this sounds like fairly normal adhd behavior. In that anxiety is a very normal co-occurance and he sounds pretty anxious. I think it is more likely that he is underdosed then overdosed, but really don't have enough info yet to tell.
Avatar f tn m a naturally anxious person.. and going on something like Adderall or Ritalin is out of the question... unless maybe if I have to drive somewhere that day. Is there any way to correct the condition, like with antidepresants?
Avatar f tn And its extremely addictive and withdrawls are just as sh1tty as opiates from what i have read. However it can be effective for opiate withdrawl for a short period since it speed metabolizm up so much and realease seratonin a bit.
1100837 tn?1267668675 You could talk to your doctor about adding a small dose of Ritalin to your daily medicines. Ritalin is a common ADHD medication, but ADHD medications are also helpful for those who are suffering from extreme fatigue. Ritalin should be okay to take with both Plaquenil and Savella, but you should check with your pharmacist. My other thought is instead of Savella, you might do better on a different type of anti-seizure medication.
673186 tn?1225983925 I remember over five yearsw ago it starting to get popular as a study aid for college students, alot of my friends would find a source or fake having severe ADD to get a hold of script. I personally tried severalk times my first two years if college and I never had taken more than 30 ngs and that seemed like a very high dose and i gotwith very jittery and a huge efffect.
2164295 tn?1337019528 He takes Ritalin for the narcolepsy and clomipramine (generic for Anafranil) for the cataplexy. The Ritalin helps, but he can only take 3 pills a day (insurance won't approve more), and he really needs at least 2 more a day to stay awake and function. He has bad nightmares and yells out in his sleep when he does not have the clomipramine.
968560 tn?1307451498 I know that they give adderol and ritalin for fatigue and concentration, which by the way are both schedule II class drugs. although they are both very effective for fatigue brain fog due to tx.but they have a very high abuse potential and in texas, where I live an MD can have a class v through class III schedule license, but in order to write for class II substances he must apply and be granted a special license to write for class a II substance.

Avatar f tn I would highly recommend that your psychologist attend this meeting. Here, we also have a small private school for students with learning disabilities. They welcome students like your daughter. I wonder if there is anything in your area. I really understand what you are going through. Please don't blame the teachers. Their hands are tied with large classes and very little support.
14631020 tn?1436545476 My neuro put me on Ritalin for this bone crushing fatigue a week ago. I realize some medicines take a while to get into your system before they actually work and some medicines are fast acting and you get immediate results. The Ritalin has made me slightly more mentally aware, but I am still bone tired. Should I give it more time or call him and tell him it isn't working?
