Avatar m tn Ritalin for Adults With ADHD. Ritalin for ADHD treatment in adults has not been adequately studied, meaning that no large studies have been conducted on the benefits and risks of using it to treat adult ADHD. However, healthcare providers may prescribe Ritalin for adult ADHD in certain situations. This is considered an "off-label" of the drug.
Avatar f tn Hello everyone, First of all sorry for my English, this is not my language. I don't write in my country forums because people are not so experienced and there is not so much information. I am 30 years old and have been addicted to all kind of drugs. I lost almost everything because of my addictions. I was have been sober of cocaine for 8 months now. I used to inject it IV. Sometimes with heroine. Fortunately I never got addicted to heroine.
Avatar m tn For the past 30 years (I'm 53), my doctor had been treating me for "excessive daytime sleepiness" that was so bad that it was ruining my life; after a 2 night sleep/daytime nap study at a major university, the results were still "disorder or excessive sleepiness" or "similar to sleep-attack narcolepsy, but not REM-onset". No drug other than the stimulant ritalin helped, so I took that for almost 30 years and all was well.
Avatar n tn At last, my current question, I was hospitalized again a couple of weeks ago for depression. I had been on Cymbalta and Wellbutrin, with clonazapam for anxiety and sleep, and my depression to me seemed th worst it has ever been. The new doc at the new hospital, with my regular psychiatrist's approval decreased my wellbutrin, and added ritalin at first a tiny dose and then a little more. I don't believe I have ever felt better in my life.
1523516 tn?1330044257 When I went to see the MS Specialist in January, he gave me Ritalin for my memory/focus and it's also supposed to help with fatigue, giving me more energy. I am thinking it must take a while for it to kick in. After taking it in the mornings I feel a bit dizzy and "out of it" and then I feel better about an hour or two later. Still very fatigued and focus is about the same, a bit better I guess.
649926 tn?1297657780 Sorry you've had bad side effects with the Ritalin--it worked great for me, with no side effects (except cheerfulness and faster typing!), although after a couple years of intermittent usage, it seemed to not work so well and sometimes even seemed to have the opposite effect. I then stopped taking it and eventually started Strattera, which has been great.
Avatar n tn Eventually, I decided to titrate off the stimulate medication, after which I become fairly certain that there was a direct correlation between taking stimulants and reduced libido. I am aware such a side effect is not included in the literature for Ritalin (though it is mentioned for other stimulants such as adderall) and the few general practitioners that I have discussed this with have been skeptical, however, my libido is much stronger now that I am off the medication.
Avatar f tn The reason that I have a fear of more memory damage or brain damage from certain meds is that while searching for medications to help with memory I have come across information that certain medications like aderall and others can actually cause memory damage with long term use, plus I already have memory problems due to SCT, long term uncontrolled type 1 diabetes, but is now controlled with insulin, major depression which is being treated with citalopram, hypothyroidism which is being treated w
2083581 tn?1332307861 I currently use Ritalin for ADD and it also helps depression. Does anyone have suggestions for supplementing this with another drug. I have heard wellbutrin works well with Ritalin but I would like to here from someone with experience. Ritalin is the only drug that has ever helped me but when it wears off I am depressed again. (and I have tried Concerta and did like it) Any suggestions?
Avatar f tn Has anyone ever been prescribed Ritalin for Migraines? What is the thought about this? I am looking for alternative approaches for my chronic migraines, usually 2 migraines per week, 1 of which is completely debilitating. I tried a 5mg dose of Ritalin (1x day) for a week and it was a migraine free week (despite high stress and sleep deprivation due to work).
Avatar f tn Tried ritalin (normal), ritalin SR, Concerta and amphetamine. Concerta gave me something but felt something missing, normal ritalin was terrible, OD and came into "cocain waves" (very high, and straight to the bottom), amph gave me more but I didnĀ“t eat, and felt a bit anxious, ritalin SR was, and is my favourite, works as a charm.
Avatar n tn People assume he is not bright, but in IQ testing, his verbal and nonverbal areas are in the normal range. Executive functioning and working memory are low, so testers dont add the scores because they feel it misleads. Sometimes he is given second chances in testing because he will blurt an incorrect answer before thinking--but knows the right answer. I have noticed when he is on ritalin, there is an improvement with his interacting and he comes across clever.
Avatar n tn present - they will obviously offer medical treatment for you. I personally am prescribed Ritalin for my ADD, which is similar to Adderall...but I would never claim it as making you a zombie. Infact it helps me get my mind together, think more clearly etc. So I honestly dont know where you got the idea of Adderall making you a zombie. Good luck with finding a solution.
649926 tn?1297657780 I think out of all the drugs out there, Aricept is the best one for strictly cognitive problems. I've been taking it for four (five?) months now, and I've definitely noticed improvements in my short term memory and attention span. I feel safer driving to work, and I can remember phone numbers and keep track of change at the grocery store. The only real side effect I've noticed is long, vivid, but boring dreams.
Avatar m tn i recently took a promotional test which i have studied hard for. i studied for months i felt really confident. the day of the test, it was like i didnt study at all when i took it, i was really frustrated, i didnt do well in the test and i usually dont fail tests even with my symptoms. I couldnt believe that i faild the test and i felt i knew most of those answers. My work partner and my wife and kids all tell me te same thing, why i am not listening to them.
Avatar f tn I am also puzzled why any Doctor would want to give a child a drug like Ritalin simply for him to focus, this is exactly the problem that is mentioned in the above post ..
1580703 tn?1651904887 Hi! I have central sleep apnea/asthma which started it seems 2 years ago with chronic fatigue and O2 levels of about 73% (my FEV1 scores are also 73%). I'm worried my brain cells are dying and I'm having severe chronic fatigue, memory/ADD loss, headaches and sometimes vertigo. I have a neu cyst in my clivus. I've tried bipap with O2 but it doesn't work that well and I'm getting 0% stage 3/4 sleep. What caused my sleep apnea, memory/ADD problem and what can I possibly do?
Avatar f tn Just wanted to let u know one thing that was able to help me sleep at night was using medicine for ADD (ritalin). It really didnt help in any other way but my sleep. I used to lay in bed for hours not sleeping but ritalin made me fall asleep and stay asleep...which helps a little with fatigue. I know it sounds a littlw weird since its a stimulant...but if u take it in the a.m. it kinda works out ur brain making u sleep at night. I've tried just about everything for this fatigue....
Avatar m tn It depends when he is whiney and obsessive. Ritalin is only good for a maximum of 4 hours. If this is happening towards the end of this time, then this sounds like fairly normal adhd behavior. In that anxiety is a very normal co-occurance and he sounds pretty anxious. I think it is more likely that he is underdosed then overdosed, but really don't have enough info yet to tell.
Avatar f tn m a naturally anxious person.. and going on something like Adderall or Ritalin is out of the question... unless maybe if I have to drive somewhere that day. Is there any way to correct the condition, like with antidepresants?
Avatar n tn I have been introduced to the Cogmed program thru a very good Psychologist, well known from CHADD. She said the program would benefit my daughter who has ADHD, executive/working memory defecits. We are very hesitant about this program firstly because it is $2000. Secondly, there are only certainly doc's that are trained for this and makes us wonder if they get bonuses for refering patients to the program.
Avatar m tn I am sooo tired of myself. (I didn't take my Ritalin, dunno if it would have made a huge difference tho. I bashed into the pole at our front gate. Lack of focus on driving, and focussing on other things. How many of you are so tired of yourselves and the constant mistakes??? I'm quite worried that I have to spend the rest of my life with myself!
Avatar n tn I received a closed head injury many years ago, resulting in one sided weakness ,short-term memory issues, PTSD, severe migraine...enough already...anyway, I have been on several drugs for instance Topamax, Inderal, Lyrica, Xanax at length .Presently, due to some unresolved short-term memory issues I am having some difficulty memorizing, concentrating, and focusing on a required project at my job. Obviously frustrated, we/my doctor has decided to try Ritalin. Have you seen this work before?
2164295 tn?1337019528 He takes Ritalin for the narcolepsy and clomipramine (generic for Anafranil) for the cataplexy. The Ritalin helps, but he can only take 3 pills a day (insurance won't approve more), and he really needs at least 2 more a day to stay awake and function. He has bad nightmares and yells out in his sleep when he does not have the clomipramine.
