Hi there. I just wanted to tell u there is life after ritalin. I used to have similar issues and thoughts while I was prescribed adderal. I always wondered "well how am I going to get all my work done w out these drugs " buzzing all around like a crazy woman that I had become.
I promise you , u will get your natural energy back. Everyone's different on how long it takes. I would suggest taking this one day at a time. You can do this.
i do have mild add i found out dr changed me from adderall to ritalin...im also on xanax was on prozac dr changed it to wellbutrin sr..i have been reading where these meds can cause a seizure...
how long does ritalin take to work im on 10 mg but could take another 10 in the afternoon i was on 30 mg adderall i heard ritalin is stronger..im scared i will be allegic to ritalin as im afraid i will allergic to all new meds..and it is deiffernt than adderall pharmist said she has rarely heard of anyone being alletgic to these kinds of drugs but i thought i was having hard time breathing yesterday..does anyone else drink a couple beers with their ritalin.....

Hi, I have been taking Ritalin (20 mg) not for ADD but for another health issue since January of 2015. From then on until around May of this year it was doing wonders for me. I was at the top of my class without really trying, I felt happy and confident, and I lost a significant amount of weight (Before I was slightly overweight as I had been my whole childhood, and after I was at a normal weight and was actually needing to eat more than usual just to maintain it).
The drug I’m referring to is specifically Ritalin not Ritalin SR (sustained release). Ritalin is made in 5, 10 or 20 mg tablets. This question involve the dosage Ritalin is prescribed. I’ve read that the average dosage for adults is 30 mg/day. I’m a 25 year old male. I weigh 220 lbs. and am 5’11”. The only other medication I’m on is 100 mg of Zoloft/day for the treatment of depression. I have no prior medical issues.
My six year old son started taking a pretty low dose of Ritalin - he's doing great, except he seems to become "whiney" for lack of a better term.. he is much more emotional and prone to tears. Does this sound normal? He's been on the medication for about 5 weeks.
My daughter just started taking 10mg of adderall xr and it doesn't seem to be working as well as the generic ritalin was. Does it take awhile for it to have it's full effect? This is only her third day on the medication. Any thoughts?
I have shown proof from reliable sources, to my Doc that he needs to give me MORE than 60mg Ritalin for it to be effective as 60mg Adderrall. He still will NOT increase the Ritalin dosage. I took the script anyway, and after filling it realized I am screwed for the month. I hardly can tell that I am taking an ADD medication when I take this weak Ritalin. I even took 80mg and felt nothing. I hate to do it, but I am going to call my Psych.
He was diagnosed with ADHD when he was 5 although we knew it by the time he was 3. He takes Ritalin... 25 mg in the am... 20 mg @ noon and 10 mg after school. The Ritalin has worked VERY WELL at controlling impulsivity and bad behavior. So much so, that his teacher this year asked me why he was on Ritalin. However, it has made him very slow at completing assignments and many other things. He is very bright and makes very good grades.
My only concern regarding the medication is, my son has lost about 30+ pounds in the last 65 months and appears to continue to drop weight. I will admit, he was on the heavier side so he could afford to drop some weight but he's really skinny now. He's about 5'9 and weighs about 148.
Will he continue to drop weight if he stays on this medication? How long is too long to stay on the medication? Can he be in it for long term?
I saw my psychiatrist today and he told me Ritalin must be taken cautiously with patients with tics because it aggravates tics. I am 27 years old and have been taking Ritalin since I was about 13. I used to have a blinking eye tic but Ritalin didnt seem to aggravate it. However I got a funny spasm in my left eye and the doc said its fine. The one question I forgot to ask him was if Ritalin could cause my eye tic to spiral out of control in the future.
Today I did not take the Ritalin and felt no spasms. On the other hand, my doc told me to take the Ritalin constantly. I tried to take it only when I needed to concentrate at work and not on days I don´t have to work. He told me it is not good to interrupt intake like that.
I am very interested in knowing your experience with Adderal and Wellbutrin. Did your doctor check your clinical history to be sure that there is no high risk of seizures?
I abused Ritalin snorting about 50 to 60 20mg pills over a 12 hour period, then the next day i was given a random urine test by my pain management doctor which is sent out to a lab. Ive heard that methylphenidate/ritalin wont be detected by most urine test but ive also heard that it will show up as methamphetamines, so i dont know what to believe.
Are these episodes happening in a similar time frame? For example, do they tend to happen as the dose is wearing off and right before another dose, or do they tend to happen when the ritalin is at its strongest (about an hour after taking the medication)? There's something called a "rebound effect" where the child goes from having too much ritalin in his system to too little ritalin, and the behavior bounces around accordingly.
I am a 74 year old Female and I am taking 20mg of Ritalin SR in the AM and 25mg of Imipram for the cataplexy in the PM. I get about 2 to 4 hrs sleep and the rest of the night I toss and turn. My Dr. told me she doesn't give meds for her patients to sleep.
I am concerned about not sleeping and then taking Ritalin to keep me awake during the day.I feel my health will be affected. Is this the normal way to treat my condition?
I did a quick check on the use of Ritalin on depressed patients. This is a quote from their package insert:
"Ritalin should be given cautiously to emotionally unstable patients, such as those with a history of drug dependence or alcoholism, because such patients may increase dosage on their own initiative. Chronically abusive use can lead to marked tolerance and psychic dependence with varying degrees of abnormal behavior.
Pull him off Ritalin and try Concerta and try it in lower to higher doses. Ritalin at a higher dose was hard on my 10 yr old. He was diagnosed with ODD when he was 5 and it takes time. We got over hurdles by therapy, putting him in extracurrricular activites. He is now on Concerta 54mg in the morning and takes 5mg of Ritalin in the afternoon.
Concerta has been great, no side effects or anything. We had bad reactions with vyvvanse with my 6yr old - as in hallucinations big time.
Talk to your doctor about stopping this medication and trying a low dosage of Ritalin. On the other hand, five is a very young age to have a diagnosis of ADHD. Most doctors are reluctant to give a diagnosis of ADHD until past the age of seven and only at the age of seven and eight do they prescribe medicine for ADHD. Children mature alot between five and seven. If he has issues with language and communicating, you need to have him evaluated by a speech pathologist.
Ritalin is a stimulant and if he is abusing it, that can cause so many problems. Not sure why he was put on it either with a history of drug use and now drinking too. Bad bad combo, with ritalin and alcohol.
What did he say when you told him you can't be with him if he keeps drinking and abusing the ritalin? I am sorry your going through this right now, but it sounds like you need to take care of yourself first. Does he show any signs of wanting to quit?
