i have had the issue of high blood pressure, which i am taking meds for, which i believe was from my last anti psychotic, i also had severe weight gain. Since i have stopped, my blood pressure is down, thanks to my meds, as well as i have lost atleast 16lbs since i have stopped. Please let me know your thoughts. o, i also take a mood stabilizer, and an antidepressant. and a sleep aid.

If you see them, you need to not eat for a week if necessary, but you MUST take him to a vet or you will lose him. Another symptom of risperidone overdose is low blood pressure which may do damage that may not show up for months or even years down the road. As I said, it is really preferable that you take him to an emergency vet NOW, but if you will not do that, you need to at least take him if he starts to show any of the signs listed in this post. I'm so mad that my psych put me on a dangerous medication like risperidone just because i expressed i have a lot of anger, i've had a lot of anger at my family since childhood and as an adult, it's affected my relationships so that i cant be in a normal relationship because I get angry and irritable very fast. That's all i said to my dr, and he gave me risperidone which actually vanished all my anger and irritability.

For the past seven months I have been having a dull pressure feeling in my head that never goes away. Could this be from the Risperidone. I am currently on 1 mg of Risiperidone and also 20 mg of lexapro.

i wasnt sure where to post this message, my brother died with a inquest of open verdict he was 37 he was taking risperidone for 3 yrs and diphenhydramine, he had high blood pressure although an ECG has never been done, he was over weight, tinnitus and was diagnosed with delusional disorder and schizophrenia. because he was'nt found until the 7th day of death post mortem was difficult no blood samples could be taken and eyes and brain had liquified..

Hi I had been on Risperidone 1 mg for a year. I left it, and went cold turkey. Now the only problem I am facing right now is Insomnia. Can anybody tell me, how long this can go like this.

Hence you will need to get heart function assessed by ECHO and EKG, get kidney and liver function tests done and get a complete blood picture for anemia. Low sodium in blood, hypothyroidism and malabsorption syndromes causing low protein in blood have to be looked into It is difficult to comment beyond this at this stage. t find the Abilify to be helpful and it made me extremely bored. I took Risperidone (which I was told could affect blood sugar levels) for a little over a month and stopped abruptly because I realized it wasn't helping and it made me constipated. But soon after I started taking Risperidone (within 1-2 weeks), I started to feel this extremely scared/anxious feeling in my heart. I would have to rub my chest to make it go away. That happened for a few times but I never linked it to the meds.

My question is on tapering risperidone how long does one need to taper risperidone from a dose of 1mg to 0.5mg in days or weeks?.

i am afrraid this is not the risperidone, but it's called spastic colon (Irritable Bowel Syndrome). it just happened that they occurred by chance simultaneously. when you have anxiety you get spastic colon and especially with the change of weather, i.e. seasonal change from summer to fall say. I know it's devastating. They reckon it afflicts up to 20% of the world's population.

my son, 9 , was taking risperidone 1mg BID. he has missed his doses for 2 days and now came home from summercamp with signs of tardive dyskinesia. Is this because of stopping the risperidone or has the risperidone been masking the tardive dyskinesia ?

How do you manage withstand side effects of both Risperidone and Seroquel.I found even 1mg of Risperidone made me edgy,nervous and anxious.My hypomanic episode resolved in July and my Pdoc was a month late in tapering Risperidone.He started tapering process in September.In future I shall keep far away from these antipsychotics as possible.A most distasteful experience.

wow , that's some medication , over the last 10 years i've been on quiet a lot too but for the first 5 year's or so it was mainly anti-depressants and the odd anti psychotic , but they had no odea what they were treating back then, it's only been the last few years i got diagnosed properly ,but they are still not 100% sure about the Bi polar / with psychotic features or Schizoaffective , which is what they call it for now , i don't think there's a whole lot of difference

I am really happy today.Yesterday I took my last dose of Risperidone which I had been taking since the past four months and which had been tapered off by my Pdoc .I never liked this med which had numerous side effects of which I experienced some,thankfully not the worst ones.I will now only have to take my mood stabilizer which I have been taking for a number of years.

She also gets up at night and looks for things or wanders around. The consultant has prescribed risperidone, although we were hoping for Aricept. I am very concerned about this as internet research suggests it is for aggressive behaviour and will result in oversedation even drooling. I don't want my mum to be a zombie - I'd just like her to be more like her old self. Does anyone have any experience of this drug at all? I'm not going to give it to her until I learn more.

Having lowered blood pressure when sitting is more of a concern but it depends on the degree of blood pressure drop. In general people do respond well to Risperdal but each person responds differently to each medication. They are still understanding why people react differently to different medications and it will take some time before they know which specific medications will help each person.

I must disagree with the other poster. Risperdal was approved by the FDA for use in children on the spectrum in 2006 to treat *repeated* bouts of aggression and irritability as are other anti-psychotics. My son was diagnosed with Asperger's when he was 3 and has been taking Risperidone (Risperdal) for 4 years in varying dosages. Without it he could not have attended mainstream schooling as his aggressive outbursts were a danger to himself, other children and adults.

Take him to his doctor and stay on the Risperidal-risperidone. Have him tested for diabetes. The sugar craving is also from risperidone-other people on antipschotics report the same things. You might try joining a support group, such as NAMI.org, for the families of mentally ill.

I am on a tapering from Risperidone and am currently at 0.5 mg per day and have 6 days left to stop it on advice of my Psychiatrist but I am finding the withdrawal syndrome extremely difficult and am experiencing lots of anxiety.I would want to know if anyone has experienced similar withdrawal syndrome from Risperidone or similar such anti psychotics and about how long could this withdrawal syndrome last after stopping this medicine as I am very distressed with this anxiety.

The psychiatrist has now put Glen (16) ASD on prozac (20ml liquid) once a day alongside his 1mg twice a day risperidone (was on 2mg twice daily but had to cut it down due to Glen becoming constipated). Glen's anxiety is still sky high on the risperidone, been on it nearly 8 weeks so she thought she would try prozac as well. Do you think the prozac will help my son?
