risperdal

674607 tn?1240017232 Have you spoken to your psychiatrist or doctors about this? Youre on 2 different SNRI anti depressant drugs for one thing.. Puzzling.. Lithium can actually lower blood pressure in some cases, Risperdal does not have it listed as a side effect, Clonazepam lowers blood pressure but Dexedrine can cause hypertension and does - its a common side effect. Its also an amphetamine and a bad idea for most bipolar patients.. Call your doctor ok.
Avatar m tn t make me you feel or bad to know that others were on the same med, simply because you will receive all kinds of contradicting views. what works for me may not for you for me i have been on risperidone for 8 years from the onset of my bp yet 1mg only, i find it ok. now i added seroquel for my mixed states 25mg. that is all the AP's I take. Others find it bringing anxiety. but the latter is a secondary effect to all pschy illnesses so you can't tell.
Avatar n tn my 4 year old with autism was on risperdal, he had some levels run high so his dr decided to switch him to Tenex...he took his last risperdal 1mg tablet 3 times/day on friday night 11-12-10...he started the tenex 1/2 of a 1mg tablet twice/day saturday morning. since sunday he has been very irritable and aggressive, with very frequent outburst of screaming constantly, hitting himself in the head and bitting, pinching, hitting, kicking, pushing, and scratching himself and others...
Avatar n tn I've been taking risperdal for almost 3 weeks and whenever I smoked some weed, it made my high really intense and pretty scarey. Is weed interfering with the medication?
1432824 tn?1283383088 With all the bleeding, have they checked you for anemia? This would cause your symptoms. But you have been on your Paxil and Risperdal for a long time and often we build up a tolerance to these types of meds and need to switch to different ones. So I would contact your prescribing doctor and talk to him about this. We normally don't get many years out of these types of meds and they may be pooping out on you. Plus, I'm sure your anxiety is high with all you've been thru.
Avatar f tn I know other parents who have had hormes prescribed to help with sleep. I also think that once you get a diagnosis that will help you know what kind of things to do because alot of the agression might be down to sheer frustration at not being able to communicate, or because you are doing things that are just rubbing him up the wrong way (from an autistic perspective).
Avatar m tn Clozapine or Clozaril can cause severe blood dyscrasias, like low white blood cell counts, which can be dangerous and lead to infection. I think you are supposed to get your blood drawn every few months when you are on that. Tardive dyskinesia is reversible if caught early, I think after a year of being on the same drug and ignoring the symptoms can you have the permanent kind. I would try the resperdal. See what happens.
Avatar n tn Hi. Wow, do you have a lot on your plate, and kudos to you for being so involved and on top of your son's care. I'm not a medical professional, just the parent of a kid with diabetes. To answer your question, yes, it is possible, and it is explicitly possible with Risperdal. From the FDA: http://www.fda.gov/medwatch/SAFETY/2004/risperdal.htm There is an increased risk. Please get the glucose tolerance tests and blood glucose tests done as soon as possible.
2010625 tn?1329372056 I may have to go off my Risperdal. My doctor is checking my hormone levels because my periods have stopped and I am lactating. He said if my hormone levels are high I can either add Abilify or replace the Risperdal altogether. I was just wondering if anyone knew of any medications that I could replace the Risperdal with. I don't go see my psychiatrist for another 2 months.
4509053 tn?1355665640 Its formatted a bit differently than Ritalin, but its a stim med. It is possible that the dose of Ritalin you were taking was too high for you - hence the drugged feeling.
Avatar m tn incidentally the reason you found risperdal awful is either the dose was high or it interacts with your tegretol.
Avatar n tn Hi, I had been on Risperdal for about 15 months and I recently stopped taking Risperdal. First of all, my periods which had stopped shortly after starting Risperdal returned and my breasts which were producing milk dried up but now I suffer from insomnia. I sometimes get only 1 1/2 hours of sleep a night. Will this go away on its own?
1142551 tn?1264736930 by Karen DeFelice. You will not be able to put this book down. If your library does not have it, they will get it from another one for you, or you can buy it new or used online. I bought it used on Amazon. You will learn in this book just how much a role your digestive system plays in the overall health and wellbeing of us all. 80% of your immune system is in your gut (digestive system!). If your gut is happy, you will not have migraines, you will feel better, etc. You have nothing to lose.
Avatar n tn s and ADHD medications are the WORST medications to treat PANDAS Children. If you suspect your child has PANDAS do what you can to get the correct diagnosis even if it means going out of state. Do not go to a PANDAS specialist that is also a psychiatrist they will try and mask the behaviors with the antipsychotic drugs and SSR's and every other kind of psych medication out there. These medications make PANDAS children 100 times worse.
559509 tn?1216180446 Does anyone out there take Risperdal for Bipolar Disorder? I don't see hardly any mention of it around this site. Does it make you gain weight like Depakote? Does anyone out there take it for Bipolar Disorder Type 2? Any opinions or thoughts? I am currently on Lamictal and Welbutrin. I show mixed tendencies ( is that type 1 ),and my Dr gave me Risperdal for what appeard to be a manic state( I was off all meds at the time except Welbutrin which may have excaserbated my mania).
886552 tn?1241590297 He almost had to be talked through each day and situation. He is 10x better now. I hope that you get the needed help from your Dr. that you need. Keep communication open with the Dr. Be open to possibilities that perhaps the Dr. is not sure their self. This is a fairly new medication and many do not seem to be aware the side effects short or long term. I hope this is helpful to you.
Avatar n tn I would like to know what would be a good allergy medicine that can be taken with risperdal. I have given my son benadryal in the past and he would become calm but since the risperdal he gets very hyper and stays up all night. My son has seasonal allergies. I have given him claritin and it does not work. Thank you for any advice you can give.
2176476 tn?1338605299 I am currently taking Risperdal, Lamictal, Lithium, and Lexapro. I was on Seroquel XR for quite sometime, but switched back to Risperdal because 1) it is a heck of a lot cheaper, and 2) it really worked well for me, even better than Seroquel. I believe in the fact that medications work quite differently for everyone. I personally have not had any issues with my current combination.
Avatar n tn Cold turkey going without Risperdal would be very rare for a doctor to recommend. Are you sure this was what your doctor wanted you to do? Again, this is not a normal recommendation and especially for a 4 mg dose. You need to see your doctor again. Now, it's been 2 months. Not sure if any withdrawal symptoms would still be going on. Is there any chance that the insomnia is related to the bipolar? Risperdal helps control mania, could that be returning?
Avatar f tn My son has tourette syndrome. He has intermittent explosive disorder. He explodes, and then, when sent to " get himself together" he comes back fine. After he explodes, he will run and hide to give himself time to recoup. (A problem at malls and other social situations. He is eight, and now he's having problems at school. Everyone agrees he's great after regaining control, he just can't seem to anticipate what sets him off.
1515545 tn?1291395764 You don't typically have to constantly increase the medication dosage for the medications to keep working. Generally your doctor will start you off on a low dose, then gradually titrate, or increase, your dose upward until your "perfect" or matched dose is found. Lithium is often prescribed for Bipolar Mood disorder, which by your posting, that diagnosis could fit you. Up and down cycles are common with Bipolar disorder.
Avatar m tn You may not become suicidal again so it may not be an issue. If you are concerned then make sure you come off under medical supervision and with the support of your husband. I have learnt that suicide is often a way of communicating distress. If you are able to identify the feelings and work through them you are much less likely to become as over-whelmed. I should apologize. There are some good doctors out there.
4971738 tn?1390565384 Just educate yourself completely about Risperdal and all Bipolar medications you are currently taking or medications you maybe thinking about trying.
Avatar f tn t tolerate Risperdal and need an antipsychotic you could ask your psychiatrist about changing to a different one. Even though they all basically work in the same manner they are different enough that one might easily be tolerable for you than another. And some are more effective as mood stabilizers but you could ask your psychiatrists which ones.
Avatar n tn It seems like a few of those meds are treating the same symptoms (abilify, risperdal and intuniv). My son has tried all of them, but not at the same time. Hope you get the help you are looking for. I know how hard and scary it is to medicate your child!
Avatar n tn Same thing as you, My risperdal was being replaced with the abilify. My lithium stayed. With my risperdal, The cogentin went also. Abilify didn't really do much fpr me. I don't remember exactly what time of day I took it, I let my dr. decide because at time time, Abilify was brand new. i was one of the first people on it for bipolar disorder. As it turned out, I ended up being on low dose Risperdal.
Avatar m tn Recently I was asked to help a young man who had been taking Risperdal for a psychotic illness and who noticed that while taking this his penis and testicles seemed to shrink. There is very little information in the literature about this. We know that Risperdal causes dopamine receptor blockade. Dopamine in turn keeps prolactin levels in check. Therefore Risperdal allows for a raise in prolactin levels and this may cause genital shrinkage.

Avatar n tn Risperdal is a so-called "blacklisted" drug because of the high incidence of fatalities in the elderly. It is not approved nor appropriate for a use in an "agitated" eighty year old patient. The Department of Geriatrics at Johns Hopkins University conducted a dedicated seminar at Mount Sinai Hospital geriatrics department three years ago warning against inappropriate use of risperdal in the elderly.
